Was going to buy song of the deep but since it has no platinum I did not.
I'm an old man, I actually played games before trophies even existed. I played them because I liked playing video games. :whee:

In actuality, the lack of a platinum doesn't bother me, because I rarely get them. I probably have 10 or fewer.

This might be the first week in months where I don't buy a game. The only one I'm eyeing is Dead Island: Retro Revenge, but I think I'd rather hold out for the Dead Island Definitive Collection.

Thank goodness I got the most out of that 10% off coupon last week. I'm free!

I might get the Marvel vs Capcom Deluxe edition... I dunno, hard to get excited for it but I love the series and I've heard the core gameplay is solid...

Decided to pass on Portal Knights to see if anything I wanted more went on sale today but looks like that didn't happen. Been on the fence over Lost Sphear so I might get that with my 10% off coupon to play when I need to give MHW a rest.

I've seen R-Type Dimensions go on sale a lot. I tried Alpha Mission 1 and 2 and sucked at those, how does this compare? I'm not that good at retro shoot em ups, prefer the modern ones.

For anyone who is on the fence about Abzû (and didn't get it for free on PS+ last year), I definitely recommend it for $7.99. It's an "art house" title (like Flower or Journey) and such a beautiful, stress-free experience from start to finish. I have a bit of aquaphobia in RL and was apprehensive about starting this game, but it's so damn refreshing to have an experience in the ocean that doesn't involve running out of air or creatures trying to eat you. I realized a lot of these fears have been conditioned since youth from movies and games. Plus I made a new best friend; I call him Sharky.
a bit late but I would say abzu is like Ecco without the puzzles... And aliens

No question. It's on par with 2K with their only advantage being they have classic teams. The career mode is better in Live and if you want to play current day NBA it's a no-brainer at that price.
Isn't Live's Franchise mode trash? The game's definitely worthwhile at this price point, but I wouldn't call it "on par with 2K" by any stretch.

A lot of "PC master race" people have consoles though, so that logic isn't entirely true. Sure, some will do that, but some are more open minded because they own a gaming PC and multiple consoles.
Basically, if you're not a toaster...

Edit: Sorry for the late reply. Was playing peasant console game.

I agree that Live 18 is better than NBA 2K this time around. In the last few releases of NBA 2K they've forced microtransactions in order for you to advance your created player in My Career mode (and possibly The Neighborhood mode as well). Take2 Interactive/2K Sports has become complacent with the development of the NBA 2K series in the last few years. It's more of a full priced roster update these days. I stopped buying after 2K16 and don't plan to buy future releases. Hopefully EA can continue to make improvements in the NBA Live series going forward. Live 18 is definitely a step in the right direction for them.

In other news, I missed out on getting What Remains of Edith Finch while it was on sale. I intended to go to GS and trade a few small value items to help pay for a $10 PSN card. Just didn't feel like going anywhere. Oh well, hopefully it'll be on sale again soon.

Highly recommend Demon's Souls and for the record you don't need to play online to get the platinum. It can all be done via offline play so if that's a consideration don't let it stop you.

don't know if its still cheap but akibas beat was lower than that new on amazon for those interested. comes with a small stuffed animal too.

u have any problem with nausea since the PSVR resolution/refesh rate is lower than the HTC Vive?

I am thinking of picking the PSVR up but there's no must have exclusive PSVR game at the moment, is there? I am afraid that it might die just like the Kinect 2.0
No nausea, headaches or eye strain yet. I’ve limited my play experiences to about an hour each session so far. Now I’ve added Arizona Sunshine and Tomb Raider VR mode into the mix. I’m pretty sold on it and I was skeptical for the same reason. I’m hoping that the sales bump they received from the holidays will lead to more titles in the future but there’s plenty of titles to catch up on. Looking forward to RE7, Farpoint and The Inpatient.

Highly recommend Demon's Souls and for the record you don't need to play online to get the platinum. It can all be done via offline play so if that's a consideration don't let it stop you.
Thing was easier to get offline than online anyway, stinking online world tendencies. I still need to go get the plat eventually, lost my motivation when the online world tendency messed up my ring collecting which means I have to go through the game again (because at the time I wasn't aware of how online effected it all.)

Yep, plus if you just want to be a total turd you can use the duplication bug to power level your character and just cheese through it. Not recommending that but it is an option.

I was waiting for Nitroplus Blasterz to go on sale again, but I think I'll keep waiting for it to go under $10 again.

I probably won't use the 10% code. I would probably get two sets of Persona 4: Dancing All Night outfits if Atlus had announced the US was also getting the PS4 port, and the US dlc would also be crossbuy. I'll check if there is any other dlc that is unlikely to go on sale.

A PSA for those that use Sony Rewards; I ordered a $20 Playstation Store Code today (as part of the "spend 2000 points, get 2000 points" deal), and I instantly received my code on the order confirmation screen (like they used to do).

Don't know when they switched back to the instant redemption, but it's nice to not have to wait several days to get it (the last few times it's taken 3-4 days).

I've seen R-Type Dimensions go on sale a lot. I tried Alpha Mission 1 and 2 and sucked at those, how does this compare? I'm not that good at retro shoot em ups, prefer the modern ones.
While the original games were brutal and required precision reflexes and pattern memorization, with having to start over or at the midlevel checkpoint with every death. Dimensions gives you more options, including the ability to respawn where you left off. You can basically blow through the two games, but it tracks your stats, such as the number of times you died, giving incentive to replay. It was a Plus game not long ago, but definitely worth the $3.00.

Besides the Live deal.., Rory golf for $5 is worth it in my opinion. The player creation system is a little shallow but the presentation and controls are pretty solid. But only if you like pro golf.

Been trying to decide whether to get The Last of Us. Never played it and I generally don't like horror games, but I'm hoping the story makes it worth it.
It's not a horror game at all. It's a standard seventh generation cover-based third person shooter. Like every other cover based shooter, there aren't any interesting or engaging combat mechanics.

Like all cover-based shooters on the 7th gen, I'd recommend playing on the lowest difficulty: nothing gets more interesting or challenging or rewarding ramping up to the highest possible difficulty, just slightly more of a slog.

In the end the best part of the game were the walking simulator parts between each encounter, which are actually quite good. So turn off all difficulty so the encounters end ASAP and you don't have spend too long thinking about how boring and bland they are and how horrible the seventh gen of console gaming was, and enjoy the story, which is not bad for a videogame.

Oh, and the cover shooter mechanics are actually fun in multiplayer where you're not playing against whack-a-mole AI. Last Of Us multiplayer is fun.

Uncharted series - overrated, genuinely garbage

The Last of Us - modestly not terrible, one of the most overrated games ever
Tough crowd.

TLOU is very good even at the lowest setting, especially if you suck at it, like me.

Hey, that was me recommending it!

I'm not going to sing higher praises about any other cover based shooter (at least any that people have heard of: Vanquish is an exception, but never caught on because mechanically it wasn't bland garbage so seventh gen gamers couldn't deal).

Maybe you two should just ignore one another's comments?
Been a long dang time since I used this feature...

Two weeks of sales and not a thing worth using that 10% code on.
I'm going with Comet Crash 2 [the first one was excellent - you're the swarm in a reverse tower defense type game] and Cannon Brawl, which is a well reviewed hybrid of tower defense and worms/artillery.

But yeah. I was hoping for more.

You crazy. TLOU on survivor mode is fantastic.

Just finished Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. Do yourself a favor and add it to your wishlist for the next time it goes on sale. Truly a unique experience.

I bought both Comet Crash games this morning based on the descriptions alone, so I'm glad to read that at least one other person thinks these games are good. They seem like sleeper hits with good pedigrees.

this is why i laugh when people question the validity of sites like IGN yet prefer the opinions of posters on this forum

only here will you see anybody say that amazing games like Uncharted and Last of Us are bad games

btw The Last of Us is best on hard mode, if you can't handle that you just aren't very good
