I’m picking up horizon zero dawn, dying light, and the crash trilogy to replace my physical copies. I could use some advice on how to spend another $30 to get the promo.

I was thinking nba live and Star Wars battlefront 2. Nioh is a no go because I don’t have time for long sessions the souls type games require and I already own titanfall 2. Do I give EA some of my money or take a gamble on tomorrow’s sale?

What are your thoughts?

Playing Blade & Bones; I'm not particularly impressed so far. The combat so far is basically just waiting for the enemy to attack, dodging and countering. Some enemies seem too quick to beat, but that's fixed by finding the random locations on the map where you can upgrade your stats (health, stamina, speed, etc.). Unfortunately, there doesn't even seem to be a map.

It doesn't explain much either. When you die you lose a "purity," and if you don't recover them (which I can't find any way to do) and lose all seven of your purities, your save file is erased. I play a lot of roguelikes so I'm familiar with permadeath, but somehow it doesn't feel right here.

Sweet. I passed on Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV when it was marked down to $20, and now it's down to $15. I'll pick it up this time.

I'll also get Drakengard 3. The last time it was on sale I saw people saying Nier: Automata fans should check it out. Right now I'm playing Nier, and I'm loving it. Though I also heard Drakengard 3 is kind of rough around the edges.

I heard that about Setsuna. I played the lost sphere switch demo and liked it. Either way those games we're super overpriced and I'm not buying until less than $15.

Grabbing Star Ocean End of Time and then a bunch of PS1 classics I can play on my Vita. I'd get SOTTEOT anyway and that leaves me 20 short of the 100 bonus. I figure grabbing Chrono Cross/Parasite Eve 1 and 2/Vagrant Story/Legend of Mana/Front Mission 3 for play on the go is worth 5 bucks after the coupon. Shame they didn't match the holiday prices on the Kingdom Hearts games or put Hitman GOTY on sale though. When I heard Square Enix sale I figured I'd pick up those.

I just did a bunch of research on this question because I was considering it too. It seems the answer is no. It seems the best parallel I could understand was that it was like an open world experience with none of the story. I guess imagine Fallout 4 but all you do is wander and engage in the combat (which is supposedly quite good in Wildlands). I guess some people might be down with that but it didn't sound like my cup of tea.

There's the same story coop or solo... and you're more likely to actually hear/follow the story if you play solo since you'll do everthing in a basic 'order', rather than skipping around based on who you're playing with.

The country is ruled by a bad guy, and he has a rather large infrastructure. Each region has a boss, and they have sub-bosses. Each of them has a backstory, etc. You learn about all this as you go around and destroy the infrastructure and either kill or capture various lieutenants, etc, eventually giving you access to higher levels of the organization.

I mean, the story isn't going to win any awards or anything, but it's just as complete as any other game. I actually thought they did a great job fleshing out a ton of different bad guys [at various levels of the organization], and you'll learn a lot about the culture/etc as you bring each region down [in any order you'd like].

Get it for free. If you're not sure that you're going to play it between now and when your + expires, then you're also not sure if you're going to play it between now and the next sale. So... get it for free. If you decide not to renew +, just wait for another sale.

I Am Setsuna was garbage. I’m guessing Lost Sphere was just as garbagey.

I actually really liked I Am Setsuna. It’s an old school JRPG but a good one IMO.

But it actually sounds like Lost Sphere is not as good and also way too pricey for me.

Agreed on I am Setsuna, I actually loved it as an old school RPG that was the perfect length (about 30 hours). I want to give Lost Sphere a go but am waiting for it to get cheaper.

I'm looking at Sleeping Dogs. Looks like this is the lowest price it's ever been.

I really enjoyed it on the PC. Also didn't have a bloated open world as much so easier to get through things and collect stuff. Pretty decent fighting system and OK enough story and characters.

I like indies. I like complex tactical games. I like deep, robust RPGs. I love difficult games, be it something like D*Souls or a tight dual stick shooter like Android Assault Cactus.

You know what else I like? Ubisoft style open world games. Mad Max? Far Cry? Shadow of War? Whatever, in my veins.

They aren't bad game design... in fact, open world has evolved greatly over the years. You just don't like open world, I guess... and that's fine. But others do, like me.

Ruiner is one of the best games I've played in the past year.

The world/atmosphere building is absolutely perfect... art style, music, everything just comes together. Combat is complex, yet once you learn it it's amazing. By the end of the game you'll be a bit too OP, but still, it's got a robust skill system that you can redo whever you feel like it, and different skill loadouts will vastly change playstyle.

Highly recommended. I reviewed it awhile ago. My only serious complaint are 2 or 3 awful trophies that don't value your time, but other than that, it's great. [the worst of them is easily solved by a controller with a clamp holding down x for 15 minutes, so it wasn't hard or annoying to do [i made lunch], just ridiculous]

I would like to get sleeping dogs Zodiac tournament, but it is never on sale. Deus Ex HR director's cut is on sale though. I have it on the PC but it is giving me trouble on there. That is not a bad price.
