I wonder if those God of War & Sly Cooper collection ports are gonna have the cross-save auto-pop thing going on. Separate trophy lists have been released. That would be aces because I already have three of those five plats.
no cross save.

I don't really think they've been dishonest at all. Like WNYX said, they probably chose to include some DLC to make it look like it's not just the barebones game, and they probably chose the DLC that was easiest and most cost effective to port over. They'll add the rest if the demand is there. BL2 on Vita is definitely a money-loser, but Sony is going to bear the brunt of the loss not 2K.
I never said they were dishonest, that was just a general comment at all. They could be more open though. That's one thing indie devs really have over their big brothers. A lot of them will explain their reasoning behind decisions. While some of the speculation here may be right, and even understandable, it would be nice to hear it from them.

Any of y'all east coasters ever have Moxie soda? It may have been a thing only in Maine. If I recall, it tasted like a combination of flat Dr. pepper and orange soda. 'Twas gross. The town I lived in had a yearly festival called Moxie Days too cause it was made there or something. Wonder if that shit is still around.
I love Dr. Pepper but the mix w/ Orange soda makes me want to :puke:

That's the stuff! Yeah it's pretty nasty, even after the third taste. That's the town I lived in (Lisbon Falls) so I've seen that enthusiasm first hand. It's weird. Maybe it inspired/caused all of Stephen King's crazy stories, since he grew up there.

Also, was that Danny DeVito?

Can I see the internal profit and loss reports that you seem to have access to when you are done reading them? Greatly appreciated.
I'd love to be wrong, but Vita and WiiU are basically in the same boat. If porting AAA games to those systems were profitable, you would see more of it. It's pretty clear that third party developers are not interested in those platforms due to the small user base. It's pretty extraordinary for more than 10% of consoles owners to buy any one particular game, so even if Borderlands sells like gangbusters, with only about 6 million Vitas out there, the odds aren't good that the game will sell enough to be a financial success. The only reason it exists is so Sony can use it as a system seller and to tout that there actually are big name games on the Vita. I should clarify (and perhaps correct myself) that Sony doesn't have to lose money on this (they may or may not), but it's not likely to be profitable enough for anyone but Sony to invest in these kinds of projects.

Wicked good stuff! Haha.

I'll pass on anything that makes me want to spit it out and stop after the first two tastes. Performing the same action and expecting a different result is a pretty clear cut depiction of insanity.

Why is everyone assuming Borderlands on Vita is going to lose money? Is there a reason why we think a straight port to Vita is going to be some super expensive thing? I find it pretty hard to believe that Sony would be doing it if they expected it to not be profitable.

The point is not necessarily the cost, although I do think it's probably somewhat expensive. The point is that it will only sell a limited number of copies that would be hard to recoup any costs (large or small). I truly hope Sony does make money on it, but I don't think they're expecting to. They just want to use it to help sell systems.

While almost certainly true, in that press conference over the summer Sony touted the relatively high rate of game purchases by vita owners (quickie googlin says average number of games purchased per user is 10 w/ 60% purchased through psn vs retail). So while there may only be 6 million vitas out there, that might equate to (for example, totally made up) 15 million ps3s where the average user buys 2 or 3 games or 500 million wiis where the average user doesn't buy any games and just plays wii sports.

And what I'm saying is I don't Sony would make fund the game if they didn't think it would give them a profit. I don't think it is a particularly expensive endeavor compared to the other full Vita games they financed (I'm no programmer, but I would think it would be cheaper to port this than develop a full game). And Sony is out of touch sometimes, but I would hope they aren't counting on a port of an almost 2 year old game to be a big system mover.

There is a pretty good chance that the release of BL 2 will mean an increase in the total # of vita owners. The Vita 2000 was announced months ago and then it was announced that this would be the first way to get it, so there could be a segment of people that have been waiting. I actually bought mine a few months ago for the opposite reason, I wanted the OLED screen. The Vita saw a pretty good increase in sales for a while after the PS4 was released as well, so it has been on an upswing over the last 6 months or so.

I hope you're right about the cost. I do think Sony is a little out of touch with this one, but having Borderlands 2 in their game library does give some credibility to the platform. To your point about the age of the game, I think it probably would have been much more advantageous to try to do a port coming out alongside or soon after the Pre-Sequel releases this year. It seems like that would have been a much more relevant move that would have sold more systems and would have needed the same porting effort as the 2 year old game. I suppose Gearbox or 2K would have wanted more money or some other reason it didn't happen. According to Iron Galaxy, there is a possibility that other Borderlands games will be ported, so maybe Sony has a long-term strategy with the series.

oh, and since everyone cares so much, Borderlands 2 on vita will probably be the first time I play a Borderlands game.  I'm going to try it because I enjoyed Killzone as a fps so much on the vita, and as a rule I loathe first person shooters so that's saying something.  I've been bamboozled in to believing that maybe the vita isn't the world's shittiest way to play a decent fps.

I probably represent some miniscule fraction of a percentage of their statistics, but look at that whack ass synergy.  I really think that there's some guy at Sony who is driving the entire vita campaign and he is my doppleganger.  Everything about the damn thing seems to be designed specifically for me.  Me me me me me me me.

I don't think the port is all that expensive, but the fact that Sony had to get involved is a pretty clear sign that there's not a lot of money to be made, otherwise 2K/Gearbox would have ported it a long time ago. Sony gets the benefit of using it to sell some more consoles, so even if the BL2 port comes as a loss short-term (which I'd almost guarantee), Sony is hoping for a positive long-term result.

It also gives Sony a chance to make it look like they actually give a shit about their handheld, which they definitely don't outside of Japan.

can't that same thing be said about every vita release then? i'm sure if it was that expensive, and that much of a chance for loss, they would have left it alone. i don't believe this is a system seller to them either. there's much bigger names out there if that's what they were after. i think this is more of a follow up to the big chunk of early vita owners who were posting everywhere wanting the port to be made.

going by vgchartz, there's a few games that aren't far behind ps3 sales on vita, at least not for the difference in console numbers. ultimate marvel outsold both 360/ps3 on vita, dbz battle of z outsold 360 without having a na retail release, and ffx sold slightly over half of the ps3 version, and that's without counting digital sales at all. which i'm sure for vita are pretty decent.

On the one hand I hope BL2 does well on Vita and on the other hand I'd like it to drop to $20 ASAP.
probably doesn't help my case that i purchased it so much already. 3 times on 360(retail, retail gift, digital sale), a chunk of 360 dlc, and the ps3 goty disc.

i do want to support it, cause i want to support the vita any way i can. i just hate that i feel like i'm forced to buy it right away in order to have a chance at a complete game later on down the line.

vgchartz makes up numbers.  Not saying some of those things you said couldn't possibly be true, but vgchartz saying it means almost nothing.

Was able to snag Diablo 3 from Best Buy for close to nothing thanks to that weird glitch post.  I think I'll start playing that instead of Uncharted 3, since I've never played a Diablo game before.

Only drawback to getting Diablo 3 for cheap was having to contribute to the Titanfall sales numbers.   :puke:

This is what got me questioning you guys in the first place. Why are you so sure of a short term loss? Is this the case with most full Vita releases? (honestly asking because I don't know). Because if that isn't usually the case then I don't see why this would be an exception. Straight port of super popular game? Seems like a sure fire money maker to me.

Full disclosure, I don't care. I enjoy playing Borderlands on my console but the videos of the Vita version make it look uncomfortable as fuck to play. I just think it's funny that we have so many professional sales analysts in here.

I'm the same in that I've never played a Diablo game (plus I did make some orders with that glitch), but I plan on just getting the PS4 version since I have way, way, way too much to play right now. :joystick:

Why do you think every game that comes out never hits Vita? Because there is no money to be made. I mean, there's only one version of Madden on Vita for Christ's sakes.

Publishers would support the Vita if they thought they could make money on it. Pretty much every major publisher has abandoned the Vita. That's not a telltale sign to you?

That's what I was going to do, but I'll just play the PS3 version now and see how I like it, and then sell it when I'm done and get the PS4 version if I love the game. Also the PS3/360 version has been stubborn as fuck in dropping price, the next gen version is going to be even more stubborn.

The Amazon version isn't playable on Vita.
Even if I jam it into the slot hard enough?

I agree with what crunchewy said. IF they come get released at all, you'll almost certainly be paying for them and downloading them as a separate download.
Well I'm souring on BL2 Vita in a hurry. It's only "in the vicinity of 30 FPS", two player co-op (there goes half the point of the game), no Tiny Tina and whatever else is stripped from it.

If you want Child of Light Cross Buy, make a UK account and buy the game.
Can't wait to use it on my Vita!...

I don't understand this. Are you thinking that Sony may give away future DLC to those who purchase the game on release? That seems pretty unlikely in any scenario. The only time that happens is when it is announced before the game is released. I could see free level cap increases, but not free stuff like Tiny Tina.

i don't know how you got that out of what i said. i mean their "wait-and-see" as far as the rest of the dlc goes. nobody buys = no dlc = incomplete game. game sells well = chance of dlc = chance of complete game

*Shrugs* Install base or not, I just don't think a Borderlands game is "guaranteed" to lose money. As said, Vita has a high attach rate and those who have one are probably starved for a "AAA" game on it. Or I could just be being naive.

FLASH SALE INCOMING!

Seeing banners for a $5 sale this weekend. Teasers for Mortal Kombat and Red Dead Redemption.

There wasn't much in the 99 cent sale for me. This has a lot of promise.

Oh no, not again! Hide my wallet!

Edit: And I can't believe that that Best Buy glitch has been staying live all day. I've looked like 5 or 6 times and I can't come up with two games I want. If I wasn't so busy lately I'd go flipping, but I just don't have the energy.

The glitch is dead now, so you can stop worrying. Take a nap.
