It's somewhat luck with the random spawning of levels. I also play pretty recklessly with the quick restart. I'll just go all or nothing. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't :). Sometimes it's tricking out the game like getting that wolf guy with the gold scepter to walk himself into spikes so you can take it. Sometimes I get lucky and get a decent amount of bombs in crates. I'm dying a heck of a lot but it's still fun so I keep playing. I hate hate hate the mummies especially when they are on both sides of you! I also can't stand when the levels darken out and they give you the torch! I also from time to time screw with the shopkeeper on the temple level because I'm like I'm almost there maybe I'll just grab this! Believe me though I've died a lot. I think my death count is in the 5-6 hundred range already.

I think the "need to feel progression" thing is something many are afflicted with. More correctly, it's the need to be told that you are making progress, as opposed to actually improving and making progress. It's mostly younger generations that have it.

I'm really surprised Titan Attacks! is $12.  When they announced it was releasing as a stand-alone game instead of in a combo pack with Revenge of the Titans, they said "...so we’re instead going to release them as separate games, with Titan Attacks! being released in early May as a standalone title for half the price we had planned for the original pack."
 
I was thinking the combo pack would go for like $15.  Apparently they were planning to charge $25 for the two game pack originally. That seems way overpriced to me.  No real surprise though, since this is the treacherous turncoats over at Curve studios.

My kids love Transfomers: Fall of Cybertron. I guess if you have 2 kids and 2 PS3s that wouldn't be a bad deal since you'd effectively get two copies. Well, we have 2 of *some* console that shall not be named. So, yeah, they have it on there. Actually I think they have that in disc form due to some past sale. But anyway.

Is anyone else greatly concerned that MLB the Show 14 doesn't have any reviews out yet?  The embargoes up to release date are usually not a good sign.

There weren't any reviews for the PS3 & Vita versions until a couple days after release and those turned out ok. Just breathe.

it's probably because the game has already been reviewed. I would expect most sites would amend or reference the original review as opposed to publishing an entire new one.
 
Have any of you that played the Star Wars tables on PS3 noticed some choppy framerate?  Pretty unfortunate, seeing as the only thing moving on the screen is the damn ball.  It doesn't happen all the time but when it does it's always in the bottom half of the table.  Played it on PS4 also and haven't seen any of these issues.

I don't remember having the same issues on older tables, but maybe I'm mistaken.

Until MLB The Show allows me to have 5 infielders and 2 outfielders, I'm not buying it again. Plus I have '13 and that Road to the Show stuff is boring. I guess if you need to be told you're making progress it's alright, though.

I saw you talk about this the other day. The Rays and I would imagine other teams have used this shift for at least 6 or 7 years (since Maddon became manager). I guess its good The Show's motto isnt "if its in the game, its in the game".

Speaking of that, yesterday TB followed up their 5 infielders trick with a standup in the park home run. I'd never seen one of those live before. Plus it was against the Yankees too. Awesome!

I played as many random games in short spurts as possible this weekend since I know MLB is going to own my soul after tomorrow. I genuinely can't remember the last game I've been this excited about.

NHL 15 is next on my radar.

I kind of liked this game way back when. It may be kind of outdated now though and that Kickstarter goal is ridiculous. It may succeed but I don't ever remember this game having such a huge fanbase even when it came out. Pass for me, but I do hope it succeeds.

 
Amplitude will be cool, but I need to know why it's better than Rock Band Blitz, which lets me use all my RB songs with it. I suppose there's a lot less electronic music in RB, though, and maybe that is more fitting to the game type. In any case I'm sure I'll buy it, but not going to Kickstart it. I would if A) I'd gotten before all the early bird prices were gone and B) if I had even the early bird funds available.

I agree, their goal is insanely huge.

Harmonix also seems like kind of a big company to use Kickstarter in the first place.

EDIT: Maybe they're counting on the Kickstarter to fail and are just using it as a way to test the waters to see how much interest there is in the game.

Does Spelunky get easier as you go along? (Somewhat akin to early RPGs where all the beginning enemies could kill you, but once you get past that first little hump and get some decent equipment the game is better)

Yeah no doubt. I guess it is a remaster of a 2003 game, so maybe they are banking on nostalgia or something. I might pay $1-$2 for that game, but not only does it not visually look good it also just looks like a twin stick horde mode game. Is there any more boring of a concept?

 
I wouldn't normally agree with the graphics snobs, but in this case I have to say that the graphics in that Crimsonland game are pretty damn mediocre. It's not that they aren't super high res, it's that it all looks like the same thing over and over. Boring.

No. I wish it did, I would have had a million times more fun with it if I could slowly level up my character or added more lives or really anything. Funny that others were talking about "progress in games" earlier, because I would have loved some type of progression system in Spelunky. Would have made me feel that all my wasted previous runs were worth something.

That's not what Spelunky is about. The progression system in Spelunky is that you practice the levels and get better at the game. So your runs weren't wasted, you slowly gain skill about what enemies to look out for, what traps there are, what weapons and strategies work, etc. Spelunky wasn't designed to be like most games, especially newer games which happily hold your hand throughout. Spenlunky was designed to challenge you and make you really put in a lot of dedication to be successful.
