It's a rogue-like. Equipment is very helpful, but you don't get to keep it after you die. You'll get better at it as you play because you will be getting better at it and learning obstacles and how to get past them, not because the game makes the game easier for you. Even then the game is still very difficult. You either like that or you don't. Some here passionately hate that. Others of us got addicted to it.

 
Spelunky does offer shortcuts to the levels as you progress, which doesn't matter too much because you won't have a lot of equipment but it does allow you to see more of the game. The fun is learning the ins and outs and mastering the challenge. Kudos to Tyler for having the full conversation already :)

I'd have more fun with Spelunky if I at least felt I was getting somewhere.

The worst part about this Sony ban is that they've cut me off from my Amazon Instant video. That's driving the kids nuts.

 
I love Amplitude and Frequency and I'm not really in to electronic music.  I would have backed immediately if there were still spots at the early backer price, at $20, I may wait and see.

I'm excitied because I have a PS4 and it will be free! I love how seamless the whole Spelunky experience is from the PS3\Vita. Can't wait. Also if anyone needs a Spelunky fix at work the original is free in the chrome store as a chrome browser extension. WARNING: Don't get fired.

 
Can't wait for the uproar when Crimsonland is the free PS4 PS+ game of the month.

I'm fine with Crimsonland, as long as it's priced right.   I love my dual stick shooters, and the original has some good reviews on the net alongside some people that swore by it.   If they do well with the remaster, I'm happy to give it a try.    A good DSS needs proper flow more than anything else -- I mean, hell, Robotron 2084 still holds up amazingly.

How is it possible in these times of random randomness of re-releasing and putting every game on everything Bionic Commando Re-Armed isn't on Vita? Why isn't everything on Vita? If you build it they will come. Damn companies and their business strategies of actually trying to make some money. Damn .com bubble still screwing us over.

You don't seem to understand the situation. You want to pay them for a full year, but that's not the point. You canceled a payment that you should have paid. Of course they're going to ask for the money you took back first. If they excused what you did, they would essentially be encouraging you to do the same thing again in the future. They're not going to restore your account unless you put things back the way they were like this never happened.

You made the mistake. Pay the man and move on.

 
It could be that Crimsonland has great gameplay, but I wish it was called Rainbowland so they could try different colors. I won't totally write it off, though. If people seem to like it I'll give it a shot. Or if PS+, obviously.

They had to pay between somewhere between $20 to $40 to the credit card company for your chargeback. You giving them $50 for a different $50 product isn't really meaningful... you already cost them quite a bit of money.

Pay the $15 to even the score, and don't do a chargeback next time.

I didn't watch too much gameplay, but I think the deal is you paint the arena red (crimson) with the blood of your fallen foes.

RE: Difficulty in games.

SMT Nocturne and DDS are actually 'difficult' (at least on hard mode) at times. Hi Matador! Not just difficult, but old school punishing.... for example, you can be 2 hours into a dungeon in Nocturne, get ambushed, get an unlucky sequence of attacks that all focus on your main character (or a mudo) that kills him.. and you're sent back to the title screen (you can only save at certain terminals). Granted, every battle isn't difficult, but get in the wrong one at the wrong time, or get a bit unlucky (miss your last shot allowing an enemy kamikaze spell, for example).

People complaining that you need to retrieve your souls in DS should play it just to learn what it's like to -actually- lose hours of progress.

That said, DDS and Nocturne are some of the best RPGs on the system. More mature themed than most jrpgs, the press-turn system from other SMT games without any teen romance, and in the case of Nocturne, demon collection/upgrading/merging. (In DDS you and your teammates basically are the demons... in Nocturne you're a partial demon who recruits/merges demon teammates).

I like how FTL handled it, you start from scratch each game but as you progress you unlock new ship types and different ship layouts which have varying strengths and weaknesses. So even if you're failing, you are at least unlocking ships you can fail in in different ways. If each new Splenlunky character you unlocked started with a different, certain piece of equipment or ability you could pick one that better fits your playstyle so, at the very least, you can be failing in a different way.

I believe that means FTL is then not a rogue-like, but a rogue-lite. I'm not knocking it all. Just noting that it's not quite a rogue-like. It's a variant. I have not tried FTL yet but would like to. I love Spelunky exactly how it is. Other games can be variants on the theme.
 
 Not seeing anything new on esrb.org regarding SMT games on the PS3 or Vita so I'm expecting it will be a sale.

Why the hell would you do a chargeback over $15? If you're willing to spend $50 for a year (or a little over $4/month) then you've gotten yourself banned because of $3.

I waste a lot of time flipping, but there's no way I'd call in to a customer "service" line over $3. To each their own though.

From a gameplay standpoint, no. I am concerned that they'll do something like happened with NBA2K this year where the next gen versions were missing a ton of features and had terrible menus and online issues. Reviews on the PS3 version already have indicated that it has load issues as it communicates with the servers and even laggier online play than last year. My biggest concern since they announced it has been that the universal currency was completely taking over and that really screwed up NBA 2K and haven't really seen that addressed in the reviews I read of the PS3 version.

Speaking of Ouya, I've been considering picking one up for emulation purposes. Hurricane Sandy destroyed all of my former consoles, and although I still have the games it seems easier to just pick up one of these. Anyone own one and have any comments? I'm not interested in using it for anything other than emulation unless it has features that I don't know about.
