I was banned from some iOS or Mac or something web site once, though. As I recall one of the first posts I made was a recommendation for a product to buy, in response to a question asking about such products. I guess they thought I was a spammer. fucking hipsters.

And yes the Titan Attacks! price is awful. I understand the extra $2 bump for 3x cross-buy (well not really because like you said this is a not-that-in-demand port of a 2 year old game), but I still highly doubt the full package would have been $25. Them separating the two games kinda sucks.

Eh, I was done with Microsoft anyway.  It was like a relationship, I was slowly going to draw things out until we both kinda just split, but MS decided to get it over with one quick rip, like taking off a bandaid.

 
Spelunky is the best. Deal with it.

Incidentally, there was talk on the blog and it sounds like Derek is interested in pushing forward the idea of an option to manually set the random seed. Which means you could play a level and then give the seed number to others so they could play the exact same level. Or you can just try different numbers to see what you end up with and continue your reclusive lifestyle.

Just looked at that blog post, and the comments again and there's a guy ranting about "another port?!?" I didn't realize that Derek Yu porting Spelunky to the PS4 had such an effect on AAA game development.

 
Played Crimsonland on the PC ages ago.  It's a fun take on the dual stick zombie shooters.  I think Nation Red is like it as you unlock new weapons and skills as you beat levels.  You choose 1 from a random list of 3 of them at a time when you level up.  Some levels play more like a scoring challenge, like starting in the center of a mob with a gauss rifle and them all lined up.  

It's fun in a simple way and would have been a good fit on the Vita.  They'll need to improve a lot for me to buy it again at anything other than a deep discount.

Goddammit. I'm used to PSN sales expiring at midnight if the day they end (with the exception of store updates). Had planned on hitting up that flash sale after work but I missed it. For the record I was out of town all weekend and not able to get online prior til now.

I swear after I finish witch/100 knight, and spec ops, and gotham city imposters, and midnight club online and mk vs dc, and then i guess wolfenstein by that time, and then probly back to cod ghosts for 2nd wave of dlc... but i swear after all that Im gonna be knocking out some easy trophy games...well i guess ill have to take care of new born baby by then, but eventually ill be back in the top 3 hopefully! lol peace guys and keep up the good work :)

Nah, many rogue-likes have significantly different starting characters, and in some you need to unlock them. TOME being a good example, but Nethack has plenty of starting variants.

Most of these games (Spelunky, FTL) are 'rogue-lites' to begin with. I mean, I hate the term itself (it's far worse than JRPG in terms of being water'd down and meaningless, which says something) but 'rogue-lite' is basically a game that is not, in anyway, rogue-like except for a few basic gameplay elements (usually perma-death, or semi-perma-death).

It'll never really be used properly, but the -like is supposed to mean games very much 'like' Rogue. So... nethack, TOME, stone soup, sword of the stars: the pit, dungeons of dredmore (easy one to learn) and dozens of others. Turn based, often ascii with tile set mods, permadeath (or optional permadeath in some cases). it used to be if you said 'rogue-like' you knew -exactly- what you were getting.

Then over the past few years indies started grabbing onto certain gameplay elements (again, mostly permadeath and variants of permadeath it seems) and applying it to other genres - primarily platformers, it seems, but also games like FTL (which in many ways could actually be considered a -like more than most other -lite examples), Binding of Isaac, Teleglitch, etc.

The problem is, most people have never played Rogue, let alone any/many rogue-likes, so when rogue-lites came around the terms just got all mashed together and then 'rogue-like' became hip and so it was misused like crazy till it's become almost meaningless.

If the game isn't turn-based, it's almost certainly -lite. Would it be better if there was a different term altogether for games like spelunky (platformer) and teleglitch (top down shooter)... yes. Absolutely.

Jay is guilty until proven innocent around here. Admittedly he brought that on himself. But I'm pretty sure there are mods that are not interested in giving him the benefit of the doubt due to prior interactions with him.

All I know is it's developed by Spider, who essentially make really mediocre RPGs that are just endearing enough that you'll buy and suffer through them regardless. I guess you could say they're so bad they're good, except when you stop playing them and realize they really are just bad.

Interesting that Sony didn't just sale the IP, though maybe Harmonix is looking to completely minimize costs until they can get it crowdfunded.

Also, the top voted comment is an unrelated and constantly reposted mock-up box of Shenmue 3 on PS4 that is in no way related to anything in the article. Great example of what a festering pile of shit the IGN community is made up of.

Rogue-lite was the term invented to take the heat off of -like. Unfortunately, they were too similar and so both got corrupted.

If 'platformer' evolved to include any turn-based game that has a 'jump' command it would be similarly stupid devolution of a term.

They had Gio Corsi, the guy heading up the SCEA team to work on spearheading new games like Borderlands 2 on Vita and Amplitude, on the Giant Bomb panel at PAX East and he talked about all of the Shenmue requests that he got when they solicited them.
