An all around great game that felt like a breath of fresh air compared to most of the copy/paste game formulas that we're used to seeing flood the shelves.
Ha, this is exactly the word I used to describe it in a review I wrote - refreshing. Smartly written and just a blast to play.

Agreed. Beyond was just absolutely terrible. It starts interestingly enough and just gets worse and worse. It's actually kind of incredible in how bad it really gets. He's truly outdone himself.
Cage needs to freaking delegate the task of script writing to other people. H. Rain and Beyond actually have great concepts but buckle under the weight of disjointed non-sense. And the plot holes, *smh*. I appreciate what what he brings to the table. And the games are gorgeous (Beyond arguably the best on PS3). They just need more love.

Despite the bad reviews I'll probably check out Murdered...eventually. Looks interesting enough. And, yeah, Ghost Trick is damn gooood. It's also on iOS for those averse to the Nintendo "experience", lol. Now that I think about it, Watch Dogs kind of reminds me of Ghost Trick.

Oh, I can't believe I almost forgot to tell you this cap!

You must have had some shit luck in Hot Shots; the other day I got another hole-in-one on one of the silver challenges. This hole-in-one was definitely on purpose this time so feel free to start making a shrine where you can sing songs of my glory.
I seriously - no joke - played through and completed all of the challenges, unlocked everything, played the dailies for a month, and intentionally played the same course over and over again obsessively until I finally got my hole in one. And I think I'm pretty good at the game. I still have a bunch of failed replays saved where it would skirt off the edge of the cup - I would show them to my wife and then pretend I was getting hit in the balls and she'd usually ask something like, "How long have you been doing this now?" That was a huge ass bitch trophy.

Now I remember why I don't have PS+ - download speeds on PSN make me want to punch babies.
Maybe play a game you've already downloaded while the new game is in progress? Crazy idea, I know. :)

My download speeds on my slim are all over the place. Sometimes they crawl, and sometimes I max out my connection (which isn't fast--1.5MB/s.) The Vita is the same way. I do believe it's something to do with PSN rather than a device or networking issue, but I've no idea.

Luckily I always have tons of games on either device and I never actually have to wait to play something.

My netflix "my list" (they don't want you to call it a queue any more!) is nuts, but I don't watch movies much on it, in part because there's no question that Verizon is killing netflix bandwidth. Bastards. We get great quality with amazon prime, so it's not our internet in general, just netflix. Sucks. Well, truth be told, the real problem with Netflix/Amazon Prime Instant, is that my wife ALWAYS falls asleep watching movies at home. I want to watch them with her, but she conks out. LOL.

I don't have any issues with netflix and fios in towson, what makes you think they are gimping bandwith for netflix?

Because it looks like shit. Netflix gives me a less than SD stream. Like watching a converted VHS title, though it does vary. For periods of time it will look good, and then it looks like crap. Repeat. Friends of mine see the same thing.

Regarding metacritic scores, they don't necessarily mean anything. At least for movies. We went to see the movie Cold in July which has a 72 or something on metacritic so I figured I had to be decent. It wasn't. It was freaking terrible. I have no idea how that thing ended up getting good reviews. Terrible acting, dumb and kind of boring, generic story that gets weird I guess to break things up, but not good. It just gets dumber and more generic. Oh, and Don Johnson. LOL.

Wow, that sucks. I was breezing through the game until I got to Max. It seems like the difficulty shot up all of a sudden and I'm finding myself switching to easy mode since there's no penalty. But still.... I hate seeing that fucking plant icon on my level select.

I'm curious to know (from those of you that played Hot Shots) which shot type you used. I'm still a little early in the unlocks, but it seems like the circle shot is the easiest to use.

I liked the circle shot in HSG best too. I played it for a while and then we had a tournament here, and then that died out and I haven't been back. I should pick it up again.

this one - gauge shot maybe?

Never found one that I preferred more. Maybe that's why I'm terrible at hole in ones.

Edit - man you're playing some kickass games right now

Valid. However I did play an hour of R&C yesterday when I started a download and when I was done I had to pause because it was only 30% done. On a 4GB game.

That sucks, I guess i don't really pay attention to that because it is mainly used for my daughter to watch kids shows.

Last night I was trying to get Speedlunky. Man that is tough! Closest I got was something like 8:15, but that was dying on 4-3, close to the exit. So had I gotten to and defeated Olmec I was looking at maybe 9:15 I guess? There's 16 levels, so you've got to average 30 seconds per level including Olmec. Wow. Some levels I did do in less than 30, especially 1-1 and the ice caves, but others took longer. Incidentally, the PS3 problems were fixed the other day. Works without trouble now.

I remember when all of you were setting that up. I didn't (and still don't) have a vita so I was left out in the cold.

I did okay with that one, but I think the circle is a lot easier. You should give it an extended look if you ever pick it back up; I get perfect impacts probably 80-90% of the time with that one.

And I guess you're referring to Portal 2 and Hot Shots? Yeah, I know. Anything I play next will probably pale in comparison so I ought to play a real shitty game next; that way nothing good gets soiled by their awesomeness.

I finally got to the final boss in R&C1 last night.  I am beginning to think I never finished it on PS2 as I dont remember this shit at all.  I couldnt beat him in the three attempts I made last night.  I just dont remember this shit being so hard back in the day.  I think I am getting old and my skills are lacking.    Also, I was drunk.

I don't remember it being too awful hard, but it was fun. Lay off the booze and maybe you'll have an easier time of it.

My physical netflix queue has been maxed for years, and i've got a ton of movies in my watch it now queue. Yet, like clockwork, whenever i sit down to watch something I scan through the stuff not in my list. Just like I end up buying new games rather than playing backlog half the time.

Monster Monpiece -- I'm only maybe 20 battles in, so the game is still in basic tutorial mode and hasn't fully opened up yet. But... it's pretty solid so far. The card battle mechanics seem pretty strong so far, though I haven't come close to losing a battle yet so it's hard to tell if the AI is up to snuff -- these early battles are clearly meant to be easy, as the enemy is crippled by weak mana/hp. I'm hoping it gets harder, but I have to assume it will for now.

I leveled up my first card tonight. Yes, it's over the top. Rather hilariously so. The game is definitely not safe for work. I find it more funny than anything else, certainly not a reason to avoid the game unless you're prude.

I can't swear it's worth the $30 so far, but it's got potential assuming the ai kicks into gear (or an active online).

I hope it's cross buy. Though who am I kidding, I'm sure I'll buy it again if i have to. Soldner-X is incredible.
im up to chapter 5 and still have yet to lose a battle to the AI. what is sort of lame when you level up some cards to max they lose major skills.

like one was like

ATT 4 HP 7 when i moved it to level 3 it fell to ATT 2 HP 4 but you regain 1 HP every rd. I would rather have a 4 -7 card then a 2-4 card that regains every round.

Still dont see a single thing with these cards i seen worse shit on cartoon network

Love to see add on maps but since there was never any in japan there would never be any here

Question, do you have 1 or fewer other broadband competitors in your area?

If the answers are yes and yes, then there's your likely answer.

In October of 2013 Verizon challenged the net neutrality rules. Below is a graph of ISP speeds to Netflix. Blue is Fios and Green is comcast. Notice anything interesting?

The John Oliver video Cheapy posted this morning has an even more damning graph. It's at 4:10

From the review I read of Murdered Soul Suspect, its a good experience hampered by many technical glitches and a bad stealth kill mechanic that was probably just put in to make it more "gamey" and extend the play time. What is the developer's history with patching glitches post-release?

Dark Void was riddled with crashes/freezes that should've been fixed. One that makes you start an entire chapter over from the beginning, which from what I've read is common on all versions. It happened to me on my playthrough.

Batman: Arkham Knight delayed until 2015
Well, better we find out now than later. Wouldn't be surprised if we have more delays, if they can see the delay coming from so far away.

If WB puts out another Arkham game instead this year though, I'm gonna be steamed.

that'll help delay my ps4 purchase until 2015. unless something else amazing replaces it this fall :(
Meh, with all the delays recently, I doubt it. I wasn't gonna get one this year anyways, but this delay really helps.

E3 will probably show us everything due out for Q3/Q4 this year, but I expect the majority of the show to be focused on 2015.

Here's Wiki's list of upcoming games:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Upcoming_video_games_scheduled_for_2014

I finished Green Lantern last night. I know you are all jealous. I won't go for the platinum even though I heard it's easy. As a movie game it wasn't bad but Captain America was better. 1 less physical game in the collection. I should be under 20 physical games now. I wasn't sure what to play next but I'm thinking Heavy Rain might be it since it's not super long and it's on disc. I really should finish up Sly 2 since I'm near the end. I want to finish that and 3 up before playing 4 on the Vita. Games Games Games. Not enough hours.

I also finished up episode 2 of Season 2 of The Walking Dead on Vita. I think episode 3 comes out today so it seems like perfect timing for a change. I guess I'll hit up some more Runner 2 on Vita today since I'm sure it won't be up until tonight. Great portable game. Vita and Runner 2 feel like a match made in heaven.

thanks for the list, added another game to my vita radar. phantasy star nova

i really should wait for the hardware revision to come, but knight looks incredible. only other must haves for me right now are ffxv and the division. there's some things i wouldn't mind having in between, but i really need to keep working on the stuff i already have.

i think i'm good with 12 still, lol. i'll never buy a system for a sports game, and i'd never buy a sports game on release day. unless one of my favorite players was on the cover, which has only happened 1 time before.

I think delays will just keep happening. It takes a lot nowadays to make a triple AAA game. I don't mind about Batman, still need to play City and Origins.

Cool about Phantasy Star Nova. I've never played one of those. I've got the old Genesis ones but they're just too dated to bother with anymore.

I disagree, RPGs have always remained the one genre that stands the test of time in my eyes. Some may have a few dated mechanics but are still thoroughly enjoyable and comparable to the RPGs of today, whereas something like a shooter or racer are painful.

I hear ya. It's on the list, along with Portal 2, Uncharted 3, Infamous 2, MGS4, Gears 3, Alan Wake etc. etc. etc. Damn Backlog.
So to summarize, all of these games (some of which could be contenders for best of the generation) take a back seat to playing through Green Lantern?

Well to be fair I've played Portal, Uncharted 1&2, Infamous, Gears 1&2, etc. etc.

I'm currently on a mission, trying to clear out my physical games in an attempt to be 100% digital.

I'm purging Majin and The Forsaken Kingdom and Brutal Legend (360) as well as Fable The Lost Chapters for XBOX (will get anniversary at some point.)

This is what I've got left:

Red are games I will keep.

PS3

Castlevania Lords Of Shadow
Heavy Rain
Metal Gear Solid 4
Ninja Gaiden Sigma (Might swap for digital version)
Ratchet & Clank Crack In Time
Sly Cooper Collection
The Bigs (No digital version)

Vita

Ninja Gaiden Sigma (have with PLUS so may purge)

PS1

Spider-Man (No digital version)

Brave Fencer Musashi

Silent Bomber (No digital version)

3DS

Shinobi

Starfox 64

Zelda Ocarina

Zelda Link Between

Gamecube

Zelda Wind Waker

Super Mario Sunshine

Since you mentioned it in your other post, I'd prioritize MGS4 over Majin and Brutal Legend.

Yeah purging those outright. I have Brutal on Steam if I ever want to play it and I'll skip Majin. I recently played MGS2&3 through on Vita (1st full playthroughs) so I'm ready for MGS4 at some point. I've just heard the cutscenes are super long which is holding me back. Sometimes I only get a half an hour to play on the PS3.

One of the few games I got the full 1k GS points on back when I was primarily a 360 gamer. Good soundtrack and premise, but the bugs. Oh, man. Even though it was a relatively easy game to 100%, I would not willingly go back to it on PS3.

Uh-oh. Then you might not want to hear that the ending cutscene(s)--including the credits, I think--is upwards of 70 minutes long.

Yeah I've heard, I figure with the ending I could always youtube something like that where as if it's mid-gameplay I'd have to watch through something to save, that would be annoying. That was what was great about playing 2&3 on Vita, I could pause mid-cutscene if I had to and pick up right where I left off. I really hope the PS4 gets that feature at some point, as they touted it before launch.

Wind Waker. Drop whatever you're playing; it comes first.
It's a great game. I have a save up until about the triforce quest (I think) or close to it. Again with this time is usually the issue. It takes about 10 mins or so just to get my bearings and then I need some time to sink into it.

EDIT: I should probably take a day off at some point and finish it off.

And I also beat Portal 2. To the couple of people in here that enjoyed the first one but put off playing the second one because you were stupid like me, I highly recommend getting off your ass and playing it asap. The puzzles are clever but are more demanding in thought than reflexes. And if you liked the writing/humor in the first one expect more of the same.

An all around great game that felt like a breath of fresh air compared to most of the copy/paste game formulas that we're used to seeing flood the shelves.
Indeed. Portal was special but Portal 2 is infinitely better in nearly every way.

Eh, it still sounds like something I might enjoy. I'll probably still grab it once it's cheap enough.
I think I would still enjoy it as well, just for the $10 I paid for Heavy Rain.

Regarding metacritic scores, they don't necessarily mean anything.
I just posted the metacritic for it since it's the easiest way to provide a cross section of reviews.

I would go crazy if I could only manage 30 min at a time for gaming. I'd likely say fuck it and just collect.
