Well they de-listed it from the PS Plus free games list if you log into the store from your PS4, so I would guess that they did not fix it: just swept it under the rug. Anyway my save file is already corrupted so I'd have to figure out how to delete it/rebuild even if they fixed it so it won't corrupt again in another 20 minutes.

If you want to get technical, yes. However, not to the extreme of digital licenses. The game companies aren't going to come knocking on your door and snatch your physical copy away from you, but they can stop you from playing a digital copy.

Well I think Blu-Ray has a lot better archival qualities than, for example, the low-quality DVDs that were used a couple generations ago or even last gen. I suspect if you take good care of your Blu-Rays and don't play them continuously for years on end, it will last a lot longer than they would be up on the store or than even a physical hard drive likely would. I mean Sony is already trying to milk the PS2 games you already bought for "subscription" fees. Once the technology exists to add the PS4 library to PSN streaming, why would they let you keep downloading the games for free, even if you already bought them?

Ultimately the only way to archive games is to keep ROM dumps and support open-source emulation projects for legacy hardware. These actions are clearly prohibited by current licensing, but we have yet to see how the legal validity of that licensing will hold up in court. Buying physical copies certainly puts one closer to the only precedents that do exist, which unambiguously held that someone who has purchased a physical copy of a piece of media has the right to xerox/scan/photocopy/make digital copies for personal use, regardless of licensing.

It was not my intention to start a physical vs digital debate. It was merely me saying that sometimes digital deals might come along that are too good to pass up.

For example, I notice that when the GOTY version of Shadow of Mordor goes on sale it's like $8, but on Amazon where I do 100% of my game shopping it's around $20. While I would like to have a physical copy on my shelf for collection purposes, I would have to decide if I'd rather have a copy for my collection, or if I'd rather save $12 and wait for a lengthy download to finish.

I was pretty 50/50 last gen, and there were some games I wish I'd have gotten physical because it would have been nice to have the option to sell/trade/lend them. Likewise, the only digital games I have now are ones I know I will always go back to.

As for the digital vs physical debate this is what I do. I try to get digital game codes cheap or PSN/X1 credit at discounted prices. We all know games will hit the $19.99 price point (or less) at some point and that's when I pick up the physical copy of the game. I usually get the standard version of the game.

In a way it's kind of a huge deal though and part of the problem with the digital landscape and always on games. Once it's gone it's gone and no one will ever get to experience it again. It's like if you couldn't find a download of Rogue anymore or if the original Castlevanias and Metroids were lost. If you care at all about video game development and artistic influences, PT is massively important to understanding that. Its loss makes it like the Metropolis or Joan of Arc of videogames (or hell, the original cuts of Star Wars).

About the "physical vs. digital" yeah there's not much of a debate if the question is just "which is better?" or something silly like that. But there is plenty of interesting issues surrounding licensing/media/archival etc that are interesting to discuss. Well, some people won't find them interesting at all personally, but they are very interesting. Hell, you can get a Ph.D. in library sciences just to discuss archival issues.

As everyone knows, MSRP is a direct measure of a thing's cultural influence and artistic value.

Pretty sure taking demos down isn't a big deal because 1. they typically aren't massively important and influential works in and of themselves and 2. they are typically taken down because the full version of the game is coming out. I don't see how price is remotely relevant to absolutely anything at all.

At least compare it to Flappy Bird or something comparable. Demos for actual full releases are clearly not remotely comparable.

That was pretty hyperbolic since it didn't create its own genre in any way, but so is short changing gaming's impact on popular culture over the last 30-40 years with Atari, Nintendo, PlayStation, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Super Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat, Grand Theft Auto, Minecraft, etc becoming big mainstream things that helped change the notion that only nerds mess with games and computers. Well, it was a game in its own right that was supposed to be a teaser of what could be expected from a new style of Silent Hill game. Remember, it was not announced as such at the time, as it was announced at Gamescom as this playable teaser thing from an indie studio that Konami picked up to publish before a random streamer discovered there was more to it and found the big reveal at the very end.
