Red Dead 3 has a trailer getting worked so it will release shortly and the game probably sometime next year. Not sure about the HD rumor but probably. I have to say that I think the engine would need a decent overhaul to look great on current gen though.

Watching the livecast ...

PS4 Slim is real and becomes the base system.  It should be available.. I think they said next week.

PS4 Pro is the new HDR/4K PS4.  1TB base system.  There will be a way to transfer content from base PS4 for those that upgrade.

Wow that Sony show was a real let down in my opinion. The price for the PS4 Pro (which is what the call the new 4k system release date 11/10) is not bad at $400 but they did not mention if they are going to do any upgrade offers, what will the cost of games be still 60$? The difference to me is very minimal so I will not be upgrading my regular PS4 for a while. I did like that all PS4's will be getting a HDR update over the air update. That is a bigger difference than the resolution to me. I figured they would show more and they barely touched on VR.

The games are exactly the same, as they work on both and will adjust to whichever console you use them on. They talked about all of the important points that are needed.

There's no need for upgrade offers. You will be able to trade in your PS4 to GameStop, Best Buy, or wherever and get the PS4 Pro for cheaper and they'll probably have special deals to encourage it.

Man, that was weak and boring... even the Mass Effect gameplay was dull.

They over-explained the crap out of HDR and 4K. The Slim is like a weaker version of the Xbox One S and the Pro was extremely underwhelming. I see no reason to upgrade my PS4 based on that conference whereas I am dead set on getting Scorpio. I was so excited for this conference too : /

 
What were you guys expecting? All along this event has been to talk about hardware, and that's what they did.

PS4 Pro definitely isn't worth it to me, I'll stick with my white one for now.

I'm on the same boat. I was super excited for this conference (although no matter what, I was not gonna get a PS4 Neo/Pro), but this was just very underwhelming. I am definitely considering the Scorpio more, especially if it maintains a proper price and follows the Pro in not technically increasing console prices. I expect the Scorpio at $499 max, and if it shows a substantial improvement, if will be my go to system until PS5/next gen in 2020 or so.

I don't know what you were expecting out of an event for hardware. Of course they've going to explain the specs and improvements in good detail. It wasn't supposed to be an E3 Press Conference with games, games, games.

The PS4 is the PS4, which I believe is still more powerful than the Xbox One S. It's a cheaper to produce version of the PS4 that doesn't change anything about the current experience.

The PS4 Pro is a significant upgrade over the PS4 with a much more improved GPU and improved CPU, as they basically got upgraded versions of the current PS4 components to allow for developers to make their games look and run better along with making it powerful enough to support 4K gaming. I believe it's not doing native 4K rendering for games, as they mentioned using special techniques to achieve that feat without the expensive components to brute force it. Those without 4K HDTVs will get improved visual benefits of better details and framerate.

The games being shown were purely for the visual demo of what the 4K/HDR stuff has to offer, which is why they also mentioned posting the videos later due to the stream not offering the full detail of what they were showing.

This is pretty much what the rumors for the last six months have been saying and they confirmed it. It shouldn't have been a surprise for anybody that paid attention to them.

So in terms of actual teraflops did they mention how much more power will the pro have?  Is it 4 or more?

Edit: What has the PS4 TIV at GS been before today? It is $125 right now.

Edit 2: So is it true that the Pro does not support 4K blu-ray?

I think that was the problem because since this was the worse kept secret you hoped they would have some surprise. I am surprised that the PS4 Pro was not mentioned as a bundle package but I am sure retailers will build their own packages in to move units. It is a matter of opinion but I think most people do not view it as significant enough to upgrade. I am also a little surprised that the slim was not a package either since it is the same starting price point as the Xbox One S which comes in a bundle. It will be interesting to see how many units they move and we will see if Scorpio can do native 4k gaming when it is released. It is a good time to be a gamer when little details about great looking games on a already great system we are picking at.

I really hope it does support 4k blu-ray or else Scorpio is a no brainer.

 
I'm feeling pretty okay with the the "meeting."  I would have been happy if there were cool surprises, but they never said there were going to be, so I wasn't expecting much.  I don't plan on upgrading my standard 1080p TV for a good while, so I'm fine sticking with my standard PS4.

 
gonna do what I always do

buy current gen when it's reasonably priced (done)

right before they go outta stock buy the last version of the consoles with bigger drives and better hardware

collect games in the meantime although this is probably my last gen since everything is so online/multiplayer based these days

have plenty of games to last a lifetime anyway

 
I think the problem is that Sony has been doing such an excellent job this generation of generating hype and just hitting the right notes and this one was not one of those. The Scorpio announcement was how it should be done stressing how it actually impacts the gameplay. That games will run smoother, able to utilize more technical techniques AND the increased visual fidelity. Sony here just sat and droned about 4k resolution for far too long and that was it. Even the gameplay clips from the games they did show off were quite dull.

Had Sony come out and said hey look here is the Pro, it can run games smoother, allows for far more moving parts on screen, has increased fidelity AND it is the premium unit to play VR on because of X Y and Z. That would have been great. What they did was just confirm rumors of essentially two new SKEWS. The Slim is weaker than the One S and costs more. The Pro is slightly increased power and that is it. Such a marginal change is not worth the investment or even a full conference. All they did was futureproof a tiny bit. Now if my ps4 breaks, sure I will get one of the new ones. For current owners though there is nothing about those consoles that justify an upgrade unless you are dead set on 4k gaming.

Even at 1080p, the Pro will be much better. It's like upgrading your PC from an AMD HD 7870 to an RX 480.

 
Did they happen to mention whether Pro will have 100% compatibility with the current PS4 library, even if they don't get patched for the enhancements? That's the one thing I care about that I can't find a solid confirmation on, and considering the way that they handled PSP to Vita as well as the PSTV, I'm not so sure they would.

The slim is still (slightly) better than the Xbox One S for gaming. The XB1S has an edge for 4K video, but that's it. And it doesn't cost more, they are both $299.

More than double the GPU horsepower is your idea of "slightly increased power"? OK.

What surprise were you expecting? There were never going to be game announcements or anything like that.

I don't know why they'd waste their time with bundles at this event since it's just about the hardware. They can announce bundles or other special offers closer to launch.

If you don't see the improvements as worth it, it's fine to wait for whatever the next upgrade is in a few more years.

Yeah, which is cool, but I'm just not that nuts about my games running a little bit smoother or looking a little bit better. I'm fine with what I've got. :)

Forward Compatibility was the big focus for them. This is just the PS4 with improved components, so everything will work on it just fine. It's just a matter of what gets updated to support PS4 Pro's improvements. This isn't a new generation like PSP/Vita.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking... and if this BF doesn't have a good deal then next year at BF before Shenmue 3 comes out. At some point I want to buy my own PS4 separate from the one my kids for Shenmue 3, inFamous SS&FL, Gravity Rush 1&2, Rez Infinite, Yakuza 0.. and so on.

Yes, they mentioned that specifically everything would work and there would be a way to transfer stuff between systems. I'm expecting something similar to the PS3 transfer... which will be good for anyone with PT that for whatever reason wants to save that (which I understand wanting to save stuff but I found PT to be kind of boring and it hurt my brain like going back to old FPS's from the DOS/Windows3.1.1 days).

 
As a brand new regular ol PS4 owner, I'm not bothered or excited by anything I saw today in that meeting. I'm happy with what I have. I feel like my friends and I overpaid what we did to buy my PS4 in August, since the Slim will be cheaper, but that's okay. That is not a huge deal to me.

Honestly, I still get blown away by how "pretty" the graphics in Xbox 360 games were before I jumped to PS4. So much of what was shown today was either not something I understood completely or something I don't even need.

I was expecting some improvements on the Dualshock (at least the battery life). Even the Xbox One S made a improvement on the controller on top of the main hardware. No 4k blu-ray player? I did not expect game announcements like some people rumoring Red Dead was going to appear but a refresh to the controller would have been nice. Not trying to get you relied up I personally am going to wait and I hope those who invest into PS4 Pro are happy.

 
It was really nice that every single PS4 owner gets HDR capability.  You have to buy new hardware to get that on the Xbox side.  Of course you need an HDR TV to take advantage of it, but still a nice console upgrade for free.

That was the best part to me as HDR is a bigger deal and more noticeable then more pixels. I am looking to upgrade my plasma next year to a 4K tv so the HDR is a big deal to me.

 
Word is these are the specs. 4.2 TFlops (that was leaked months and months ago so I guess no change). Look at that power consumption!! No HD Blu-ray.

There is a controller refresh and it was mentioning during the post-show. It supports directly connecting the controller to the PS4 for faster response time and the lightbar being visible from the front of the controller. It'll probably also have a bit tighter build quality like previous revisions.

Sucks about the 4K UHD Blu-ray thing for those that wanted it, but I'm not interested in upgrading my movies yet again. I'm fine with getting the movies with Ultraviolet codes and streaming them instead of watching off of the disc itself.

The lack of 4k Bluray is mind boggling to me.   They basically eliminated a whole bunch of users that would have bought it for that alone.   

I wonder if they really saved anything by not including it?   I mean maybe royalties but I don't think the lasers are any different and doesn't sony own part of the original specification on blu-ray and thus be paying royalties to itself?

I will still buy a Pro but as a 4k HDR TV owner they made it go from being a box that would eliminate the need for an Xbox One S to an addition.

Wow, power consumption is like an equivalent mid to low end gaming pc. Not bad for the specs and pushing 4K and HDR.

Wait, is that something to complain about or brag about? Maybe I'm getting the wrong end of the idea here. Even at somewhere with a higher rate per kwH... you're looking at around $1 to $2 for 24hours of use with no breaks.

A PS4 currently uses about 115 watts during use if I am remembering my stat sheet correctly. This is a massive increase for a console especially given I believe the Xbox One S actually uses LESS power than the OG Xbox one.
