It is a bit boring, but you can't exclude that when measuring the game's difficulty. You can't blame him for taking advantage of what he's been given. Besides, figuring out how to abuse a game's mechanics is a fun game in and of itself. When I play a new game, I always try to test it - my favorite thing to do is just trying to run by enemies. If a game lets me run by 90% of enemies without fighting, then that's really lame (FF15).

By the way, I received 3 emails from Sony congratulating me on the Nioh platinum - one on each of the last three days.

don't mind me, i was just painting a clearer picture. he stated the game feels easier than bloodborne depending on how you play the game... i just added that everything he's using is considered op and definitely would make the game easier. he's not even experiencing the normal difficulty... but there's nothing wrong with that if he's enjoying what he's doing.

now objectively speaking, nioh is technically harder due to stances, ki pulsing, low invincibility frames in dodging and faster recover for enemies and bosses. most enemies would armor through the attacks. unlike soulsborne, nioh doesn't allow you to get greedy.

now generally speaking for a new player who's going in blind, yes nioh will be more punishing/difficult than any souls game. for someone who knows the exploits and gimmicks of living weapons and discords, it'll be a cakewalk. then again same can be said about any game.

i haven't platinum nioh yet, i've been spending my time helping new players beat hino enma (3rd boss). from what i've read, she seems to be the wall for new players. in bloodborne, rom (mid boss of the game) was the wall... that alone is one example of the difference in difficulty.

Maybe I just wasn't as good at Bloodborne as others, but I always thought the Blood-Starved Beast (Boss #3) was the "wall", at least until you realize you can just walk around it in one direction for the first half of the fight, avoiding its claw swipes.

I didn't think Blood Starved Beast was too bad on its own. Even less so once you know you can distract it with the bait. I had an issue with the Bloodletting Beast. If I remember correctly the one without a head was easier than the one with for me.

yeah it varies for everyone, it's just rom had a lot more gimmicks that could instantly kill you. the spiders dive from off screen, rom projectiles (above and below) and his AOE.

during the initial bloodborne speedrunning days, rom was considered the most RNG boss...

He's intimidating but not so bad once you figure out you can shoot him when he flies up into the air. Shoot him just as he dives down at you and he staggers right at your feet. Easy visceral attack.

The bosses tend to vary in difficulty depending on the weapon you're using. The beasts are much easier with saw weapons than other weapons.

Blood-Starved Beast was optional. Rom wasn't. Rom was my first real wall, followed by Ebrietas.

Fully agree with this. Nioh's Sloth talisman, Living Weapon and even the bonus you get to finding elixirs from the Kodamas are pretty OP to me but I'm going to use them because they are available to me within the boundaries the developers have set forth. I'm not one of those that will play with no armor to make a game tougher because the devs have failed to properly make a challenging game. Anyway, Living Weapon has already been somewhat nerfed but I'm expecting bigger changes in the future that will make the game and Plat a lot tougher.
