PSNOT 3.0 - Let's Talk About University of Kentucky, Baby!

I think sometimes shitty video game endings get a pass because you can't really talk about them and about how bad they are.

Dying Light spoilers

First, the fucking QTEs. What the fuck? No QTEs all fucking game long then BAM, final boss and the QTE fest beings. Terrible.

Also, the worst fucking cliche in all of video games is when the hero lets the bad guy survive. The main character has slaughtered hundreds of people (both zombies and humans), just finish the fucking job. Why? Because it ALWAYS comes back to bite the hero in the ass. Literally seconds later the bad guy gets up and knocks the hero guy almost off the ledge to his death. He would have never been put in that peril if he wasn't a fucking dumbass and would have just slit the bad guys throat like he should have a minute earlier.

Has anyone ever made a game where you killed the boss right away and it's game over? I was thinking about this the other day. I'm sure there's a game with a trophy for that somewhere.

Nothing says, yay Monday like 2 90 minute meetings back to back in the morning. And I likely only need to be in them for 10 minutes given the agenda.  And I doubt food will be served.

Machinarium done on the Vita and PS3.  You play as a robot.  You help others out so you can get items to progress or go to different areas.  You point, click, combine items, point, click again.  Some puzzles, most easy, a few a guide is needed unless you're a masochist.  Short - 2-3 hours.  A lot of other people loved it, although I think anyone calling it a GOTY is a stretch or 2009 was a real shitty year for games.  Note, I am referring to some PC reviews who referred to it as a GOTY.  It was ported in 2012 and 2013 on PS3 and Vita.

I guess they love a romantic robot story where you're the hero in beat up armor more than I did.  It's worth a playthrough and you may be more charmed by it than I was.  Since they have separate trophy lists on the Vita and PS3, a second one, to me, was somewhat of a chore.  Although, so was WWE Fastlane which I had in the background while playing through it on the Vita.

I've been meaning to play that again. I started it on tablet and never went back even though I liked what I played. Maybe that'll be another short one that I knock out quickly.

Thanks to everyone for the Helldivers coop! It's pretty fun and I'll continue to play it for a bit. Sorry to CAiNiAC about not playing. Each time you got on someone had just filled the opening.

Nice, I finished a couple earlier today. Didn't seem like it was close at the time.
That is to say, we succeeded in stopping the damage from our failure. The 48 hour bug homeworld assault failed which started the bugs attacking the homeworld of the previous sector for 3 hours. If the bugs fill the bar faster, then the sector is lost and the whole thing starts again one sector back further and so on until either we stop them or the game stops the assaults. We defended the sector the first try (probably because it happened on a Sunday night when most people are home) so anyone who finished a bug double XP mission in that 3 hours span got the defend trophy. We haven't had a successful homeworld assault since the game became free for PS+.

I went back to towns now that I can teleport to start cleaning up side quests and whatnot today. It seems like a bunch were added since I left the towns. I still can't find the second son in the first town but I'm too lazy to get a guide up so he'll likely be lost forever.
One thing to keep in mind is every time you get a new type of heart piece, new errands are added for it. So to keep from running around and being annoyed at having so many different types of those (you may already have that type of heart piece when you run across it already, etc) it's best to do those each time they pop up instead of letting them pile up. Only takes a few minutes each time and saves a bit of hassle.

I should be done with the story this week sometime, then it's on to the postgame grind.

Oh. Didn't know this was three hour span deal. No trophy for me. Oh well.

Is it possible to download games to your PS4, delete the account, and let a new account play them like you can do on the PS3?
Wait, why would you need to delete the account? I don't see why you can't just leave it on there and play the games under a second account that has been added. Unless I'm missing something.

Far Cry Primal reviews:

Destructoid (7/10): http://www.destructoid.com/review-far-cry-primal-341081.phtml

While Far Cry Primal is a well-made experience, one I enjoyed a great deal, it oftentimes had me thinking about the routine the series has settled into, and envisioning a future where the Far Cry formula may not be as compelling as it once was, no matter how extraordinary the setting.
Gamespot (8/10): http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/far-cry-primal-review/1900-6416361/

Learning the unique abilities of each animal, and taking the time to experiment with them, is essential for your survival. After a while, your predator allies become an extension of yourself. They become the powerful weapons otherwise absent in the the abrasive wilderness.

These abilities are the embodiment of Primal's strengths. When it uses the Stone Age setting to elevate the combat and reinforce the brutality of nature, it thrives. It fosters a give-and-take relationship with the wilderness, granting you the means to survive, but also the threats you have to overcome. That focus on primitive times can become a hindrance at certain points, with limited tools and repetitive combat, but in the end, Far Cry Primal stays true to its callous setting, fleshing out every layer of the captivating world it creates.
IGN (7.9/10): http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/02/22/far-cry-primal-review

Far Cry Primal succeeds in transporting the Far Cry formula back in time and comes to the table with a quiver of neat ideas and a dangerous and fascinating open world. The visceral and varied combat is fun, the beast-based gameplay is a winner, and the lure of camp-claiming, gear-crafting, beast hunting, and resource gathering remains irresistible. It’s weakened, however, by a disappointing lack of investment in its story, some often forgettable quests, and its vanilla villains, which unfortunately combine to make Primal feel like a step back from the memorable moments of Far Cry 3 and 4.

You know what the best part about going back to work after having a week and a half off is? Me neither. Been trying to think of something since I woke up.

What you think about firewatch so far? When you finish it, curious to find out what you thought about the story and the ending.

By the way, Mild, at MAGFest they had the arcade version of DARIUSBURST Chronicle Saviours. It looked awesome, but sadly I never managed to try it. :( Lots of Japanese bullet-hell games that I also didn't find time to try.

I finished it last week. To summarize an earlier post, I rather liked it. Hard to recommend at $20 considering how short it was, but I don't think it would have really benefited from being longer. I was satisfied with the ending and don't really get the reviews saying it was bad.

I'm guessing the complaints were because it seemed like they were building towards some big conspiracy or something with the characters being apart of some psychological experiment. I think that twist is pretty played out so I'm glad they didn't go with it. I think the ending they do have totally fits with the rest of the story. The idea that the two main characters took the job to escape problems in their personal life and the person that kept messing with them was ultimately doing the same thing. I don't totally get/buy into the Ned dude's motivation for messing with the characters like he did. Seems like he just wanted to be left alone, so not sure why we would go around making them think they were apart of some conspiracy.. and then ultimately tell them who he was anyway. Unless he just went nuts from lack of human contact. That's an okay explanation, I guess, even if it is a cop out.

I'll probably get Firewatch for $10. Hopefully that won't take too long to happen.

Dang, I think I might have missed the window for that. Or the work wifi is being weird again and not telling me I'm not online.

Got ya, couldnt remember who else played it so far.

My main question was

the kid who died, brian I think was his name, neds kid. Accident or did ned kill him? I was on the fence about that before the end credits where if you watched them, shows any photos you took and then the photos that were already taken before you got the camera, in those photos ned and brian both look pretty happy. I think it really was an accident. Yea the whole thing with the psych experiment stuff was was weird to me. All that equipment was there for some reason, ned didnt put it there, so what was the real purpose of that stuff? That was never explained.

I will say it again since people are talking about it now. If you have motion sickness issues avoid Firewatch.
Must have missed this the first time you said it. I'll probably stay away or get some ginger root capsules to help me play it. Always worked a treat for me but my bottle is back at my old house and not worth the hassle to try and get back over buying another bottle.

Speaking of short = bad for reviewers, the Lady was talking to her son about watching me play The Order and her son told her he saw it on several worst of 2015 lists.  She sent me the links and it's mostly bitching that it's only 6 hours long including cut-scenes.  And one really annoying dude said the first two QTE boss battles are exactly the same.

But whatever, I had fun with it during my playtime Friday night and plan to pick it back up tonight or tomorrow.

I skipped the credits so didn't know about the pictures. Might go check out a youtube of it. Anyway, I definitely thought it was an accident. I think if it was intentional he wouldn't have went into hiding (since the fact that it looked like an accident means he probably could have gotten away with it). Plus he says in the tape that it was an accident and I don't think he had a reason to lie at that point (and he already told the truth about the other stuff). As for the research equipment, I don't know what it was there for but it doesn't matter ultimately. It was all a red herring. You find a note from the people doing the controlled burn where they acknowledge Dr so and so doing research in that area, so it wasn't really a secret. They just never looped in the firewatch people.

You end up finishing it?

I knew about the motion sickness issues in The Witness, but there was supposedly going to be a patch to address that (did that ever happen)? I didn't know about Firewatch. Hopefully they address it too.

Oh yea good point, forgot about that bit with the note.

Jesus, worst lists? Thats awful. They could have padded it to 10 hours and people would just complain they added a bunch of menial tasks that didnt add to the story or characters. I dont even remembering it needing any post launch updates or am I forgetting? Either way the game ran about as flawlessly as any came can and didnt add a bunch of random DLC you needed to buy that a lot of people always complain about. Gamers still suck.

Yeah I was surprised when she said worst lists because that didn't sound right. She even texted her son back to clarify, and that's when he sent the links back. Reviewers (excluding the Butt Buddies of course) like to get all full of themselves and high and mighty and champion for the people. But mostly they're just dum.

Tried the Monster zero calorie Ultra Blue on Cainiac's suggestion and it's pretty damn good too.  I can see it coming into rotation with the orange and fruit punch ones.
