PSNOT 3.0 - Let's Talk About University of Kentucky, Baby!

I haven't played PvP in over a year but it seems more fair to me then punishing those with decent Internet connections. The game is an online FPS. If you have a shitty connection you will have a shitty experience. Seems stupid to penalize everyone else. And yes I understand not everyone can have a super fast, low latency connection. But online competitive FPS shooters have always (or almost I guess) favored those with good connections. I remember playing Quake CTF on my ISDN and mopping the floor with people on dialup. Against cable modem users it was fairly evenly matched though. I couldn't get a cable modem till a bit later then many other players.

Wish you could browse servers like back in the day on Game Spy. I usually pick servers closer to me (NYC mostly) since they had lower latency then those hundreds or thousands of miles away.
Yeah, but I thought I just read that they messed up Destiny by making matchmaking skill based instead of location based? I.e. the lag is Bungie's fault at least in part. No?

No idea how they do their matching making. Is skills just rank or actually K/d ratio, accuracy etc? More and more distance isn't AS important as it once was. But still is factor.

As I said in some ways I miss being able to browse servers and pick ones closer to me running whatever options and mods and game types I liked. GameSpy was really cool back in the day. And I guess maybe I am a bit spoiled at this point. I have a decent Internet connection and only about 70 miles from NYC. Just wish my reaction time was like it was when I played Quake CTF.

I am going to get the white controller.  Its all white except the buttons and sticks which makes it look really cool.  I like that two tone look better than the others.  And now I can have ebony and ivory controllers.  Diversity for the win.

I think the problem Destiny was having with the skill based matchmaking is that it completely disreguarded location. I remember reading something about people playing in Russia getting put on the same servers as US gamers. So yeah, that lag was at least in part Bungies fault. Not sure what happened after the complaints, but if they reverted the system or at least modified it so that it made a little more sense location wise, then the the changes to laggy players aren't so bad.

Yeah, it's not a game you can marathon. Especially since you can spend a lot of time just being stumped. Walking around to find other puzzles to figure out help a little, but I've been finding it best to just take a day or two break from it and looking at things fresh.
Here's a review of it from a guy that really didn't care for it at all, if you're interested. It's pretty spoiler free.

I don't agree on everything, but he makes good points on some things.

My biggest issue with it is that, even when you know all the rules, understand everything, you still have to execute the solution with one stupid little line that can't intersect itself. Certain puzzles I'll know exactly what needs to be done, but I can't do it. I'll try things over and over and over, going in different directions and taking different paths and it never feels like I'm any closer to the solution. If and when I finally get the solution, it doesn't feel like the effort I put in got me there. It sometimes feel like it was just luck, that I finally guessed the right path for the line to go in.

I love some of the environmental puzzles, the puzzles where things on the island itself play a role in solving the puzzle. But I can't get into the panel-only puzzles where the rules are only dictated by the little symbols on the puzzle. They get too hard too quick and I lose all interest.

I've got the white controller and it is still two-tone, not just the buttons and sticks. It's more subtle, the difference, but it's still two-tone. I think it looks good, though, as does the blue controller.

yeah I know, but its still all white, even if two different color whites. I had a blue which was next best for me. But white it is this time.

"One of the most frustrating, boring and unsatisfying experiences"

Sounds about right.

"It just does not excel at any qualities I look for in a video game"

"all the puzzles could be done on a piece of paper"

jesus this "video game" could have been made on a piece of fuck ing paper. apparently the island is lifeless too...no sound, no aminals, nothing moves. its just stagnant. This video somehow made my impression of this "game" even worse than it was before and it was about a 1 before.

I have this puzzle game on my phone where you roll a cube around Escher like structures in order to get the cube to the exit. It's not bad, but I can only do 2 or 3 puzzles and then I have to stop for a few days. That's how I think I'd have to play The Witness.

I'd still like to try it, though. But I'll wait for the 75% off sale.

Last night I booted into safe mode and rebuilt the database on the Vita, then let it sit over night in sleep mode. Right now it's at 100%. Of course this could be coincidence, but if you're still having battery problems it's worth a shot. We'll see if this sticks....
I'm on System Software 3.57 and am having no problems even with Wi-Fi.

Just to collect data, what version is everyone with the problems using?

Whatever the latest is. I think it's 3.57. Apparently not everybody was afflicted with the battery problem. Maybe it has nothing to do with the particular update and is a flaw in the update process itself. No idea.

I picked up the resident evil origins collection from the library.  I think I already know the answer, but I should play resident evil before resident evil 0 (release order), right?  I wasn't sure if anything besides graphics and controls were changed in the remasters, but it should be the same old crappy resident evil stories.  Gameplaywise I expect both are exactly the same in the remaster except the character switching in 0?

As long as they film some of it here in Tampa!  They need to make sure its authentic dammit!

If I were the white bitch I would be ready with a lawsuit though unless they are cutting her in on the deal.

What would be the absolute cheapest way to get my PS3 audio through headphones? It doesnt even need to be a mic, I just need a way to play games while others are sleeping without disturbing them.

They've gotta be. Media tracked her and the dude down almost immediately after the story went up. Gotta get a cut if they're using their likeness or something right? If not, yeah lawsuit time.

Grammar pet peeve of the day: People typing "peak" instead of "pique".

I wonder--assuming enough of us have it, would Okami HD be a good Backlog Beatdown candidate for March? That's another one I really need to play.
I was talking to my friend at work about Okami this morning and how I want to play it soon! I'm down.

How close are you to your tv? You could just plug some headphones + an extender into the audio jack there. Otherwise you'd have to get a headset that connects to all the composite cables and whatnot.

Edit: or some golds since they'll do both. But definitely not cheaper than an extender and whatever headphones you have already.

I thought about that, but my tv doesn't have a headphone jack.

Or maybe that was my other tv at my old place that didn't have one. I'll have to check this one to be sure.

I struggled with the same problem and ended up spending a little extra to get the Pulse Elite headset. Obviously Golds would be the way to go now, except neither of these options is necessarily cheap.

Maybe buy a used hearing aid and just have the volume on the TV at one while the hearing aid's volume is at 8?

I don't think anyone here has played RE0 HD yet, but that's the order I was going to follow.

it really looks like that guy just went to the sam's club of tattoo parlors and was all 'hmmmm ... I guess I'll take one flame.  and a spider web.  a swirl would be nice I think.  a 1972 dolphins undefeated tattoo?  sounds good.  aaaaand some bowling pins.  and could you just put those wherever?  thanks.'

My god, this Century Link Internet has been so slow and shitty lately.  And of course, contacting them for technical support means I need the "phone number" associated with this account.

I don't have phone service through you! I haven't had a land-line in like 5 years. Who the fuck still uses land line phone services? It's on the printed bill but I pay that and toss it.

(found it in a email from 2012. thank god for gmail saving EVERYTHING.)

I actually finally got a Majin on PS3 after trying for quite awhile to get a cheap copy after ditching my 360. Got one from GS.com that actually looked new, I was shocked. Glad I have it in the collection now again to play since I never got to it on the 360.

To re-hash on the Simpsons thing.

Simpsons are great, especially seasons 1-, let's say 9. It's a show that the whole family enjoys, for different reasons.

Completely sucks that they're not available digitally. (1-3 can be purchased through amazon.) I don't have cable so  watching them through the FXX app is impossible, shamefully.   What's odd, is even with all the digital piracy and internet culture I can't find a log-in or hack for this anywhere.

(although I'm pretty sure I've said all this before)
