PSNOT 3.0 - Let's Talk About University of Kentucky, Baby!

I've no problem with expiring passwords. What I hate is when login screens won't tell you the password requirements until you decide to reset your password. If I knew the damn thing required upper, lower, a number, and a special character I'd be able to guess what I used without a reset.

This x100! The account I have to use to pay my water bill has an asinine number of requirements (8 characters, upper case, lower case, number, and special character). They don't even store any payment info on there as they direct me to a western union website to pay. Who the fuck is trying that hard to hack into that website and look at my water bill?

I think one of the systems we use requires not using the last 2 or 3 passwords and resets every 3-6 months. It pretty much guarantees I have to call customer service once a quarter to get them to let me back into the account after I've typed the wrong one too many times.

I worked a help desk for a bit and every Monday was nonstop calls about people forgetting their passwords. 3-day weekends were the worst.

You guys should all set up LastPass. It's free for desktops and only $12/year to also have access to it on mobile.
It works pretty much the same as keychain on macs right? I use keychain for all my personal stuff and it makes everything a lot easier to manage. Some of the work passwords I'm pretty much sol on though.

I recommend 1Password. it's not the cheapest option, but it's really nice and it is great on Mac too, which wasn't the case for LastPass last time I checked. Not sure about now. You pay for both desktop and mobile versions, but at least you don't pay yearly for mobile.

Or, you know, just remember your damn passwords.
Problem with that is each site and even internal sites here at the bank have different requirements so you wind up with 10 different passwords looking like this:

IhatethisfUckIng12assinine*PasswordProcess#

How the fuck will you remember that?

#TeamSamePassword
Plus that's just as risky as something like lastpass. One compromised site and you're done. If some crappy unsecured website like CAG has your same password as Paypal, you're screwed.

I put a lot more faith in a site like lastpass to keep them all secure than I do a place like CAG.

Plus lastpass has browser extensions that autofill passwords and it's amazing.

Not judging, I was exactly like you. Setting up LastPass took a few hours but god it was worth the effort.

True Story.  I have a spreadsheet of all my passwords saved on my personal drive on the companies network.  Its password protected too of course.  A big no no but whatever I have no other way to remember most of these things.

I did a rough count and have over 50 sites or places I need to login at work with probably 20 unique passwords and another 70 plus websites and other personal places I need to login and most of those are unique too.  Granted I probably could clean it up and reduce that to 20 sites since a lot are old but I keep them just in case.

I actually have a set four or five that I use with various differences in them here or there. It might take me a couple entries to remember which one I used for which site, but that's what multiple login attempts and the 'forgot password' feature are for.

1Password has a vault that is encrypted. You can put the vault on Dropbox or wherever for syncing purposes, but even if they get access to your dropbox account they'd still need to hack into the vault. Not sure how LastPass does it.

What happens if these one password shops get hacked? How fucked are you then?
Pretty fucked. With keychain there's an option to keep them stored local only though. There's an option to keep them in iCloud so that you can have everything saved for use on an iphone/ipad as well, but I haven't enabled it yet. Since most of my mobile usage is going to be though apps, I'd rather just take the time to log in whenever an app gets deleted or updated and needs it entered again.

I just use a 3 password system. One password for my email, a completely different password for my normal sites (banks and such), then a 3rd password for one-offs. Some variants for each password due to site requirements (add a number of symbol or whatever) but that's about it. Then 2-step verification on my gmail. It's possible somebody could get into one of my accounts at some site but without getting into my gmail as well they'd have no way of knowing which other sites I have an account at.

LastPass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But yeah work passwords are a little different. Keep those on the work server so if those passwords are compromised it means that they got hacked and its all their fault, not yours for storing passwords outside of work servers.

For passwords I have a complex first six characters that are always the same on all sites and then the last few characters represent the site e.g. Xgg65!CAG or Xgg65!YAHOO. that way it'd at least take human reasoning to see what I'm doing and password crackers with stolen info are always automated.

I definitely keep the work passwords on work computers/servers only. Or in my head. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow though, work is pretty fucked.

I bet some asshole just tried Xgg65!CAG.

Last Pass would work for my personal stuff but probably wouldnt be able to get it to work at work. But yeah one day I will look into it if I really get frustrated. My personal stuff isnt too bad usually.

I also work for one of the biggest banks in the world, and while I know we can get hacked as hackers try thousands of times a day, they are looking for ways to steal cash from the bank, not get passwords from employees.

Also, remember folks, you should be watching your bank and credit card accounts daily. Even without Lastpass it takes me 5 minutes a day to login and make sure all my accounts dont have any strange activity. Then you should be checking your free credit reports every 4 months since you can get one from each of the 3 companies once a year.

How is Amazon with release date shipping? That's where I'm getting Uncharted from, but if I don't get the game delivered until Tuesday afternoon/evening, then there would be no point in taking Tuesday off. Maybe I should take Wednesday off just to be safe.

I check my bank accounts about once every 2 weeks. You still have 30 days to report suspected fraudulent activity right?

For work stuff you can generally use keepass (Windows/Mac/Linux) which is usually happily approved by IT folks and it's probably what most of them use. It's local file based only but there are Android/iOS versions and if you have the infrastructure you can store it on a web server/google drive/etc.

Spreadsheet passwords are easy to erase (sorry wren).

Pretty good, though I can't say if my games were always delivered by UPS, and even then, I usually wouldn't get the package until later in the afternoon. Taking Wednesday off sounds like a better idea.

My last pre-order (Gravity Rush Remastered in February) arrived on release day.

You'll get it release day, but it may not arrive until the evening. That's how it has worked for us.

Don't most credit cards have a free credit report now? I know Discover does and am pretty sure Amex does as well, at least.
Discover gives you a FICO score, not a credit report. Its a good start though. No credit card give you an actual report that I know of, including Amex. They are just a score too.

Id do that.

You will get it release day but if you're ups/usps mail doesnt arrive normally until the afternoon, then be no point taking tuesday off.

I have tuesday off already that week as i work saturday, but just took off wed too, im getting it from best buy, dont open until 10 or 11 so good chunk of the day gone on tuesday.

yeah you have 30 days (or more?) for a credit card but if someone takes cash from your bank account your fucked at least short term. every day may be overkill but its only 5 minutes. I rather do that than worry about my passwords being stolen which has a high probability of happening eventually anyway.

fuck physics, makes me want to quit school and buy another PS4.
I'm killing my chem classes though.

I don't know if it's a shitty teacher, shitty book, shitty combo, or I'm just stupid at physics but I've never gotten my ass handed to me by a class like this before.
Chem-is-tryfun! Physucks! Really, though, I didn't mind physics. I always thought of it as math at work, and math was always my favorite subject. We spent all that time in school growing up learning how to solve word problems, and physics is just a real world application of that. You got your trigonometry, algebra and calculus all rolled into one.

Is this Physics 101 or a more advanced class? What chemistry are you taking? I don't recall if or what you said you were going to school for.

My work is based on organic chemistry, but I use a good deal of what I learned in physical chemistry on a regular basis. Not much physics here, but a basic understanding of the concepts is helpful in an industrial setting.

They'll get it to you release date, but when it's delivered depends on ups. If they deliver late around you, might as well take Wednesday off instead.

I dont know what any of this means.

Im taking Tuesday the 26th (taking the 25th and 27th too) off for Alienation.  And I know it will be there because its digital!  HYYYPPPEEE!!!!

I'm preordering UC4 from Best Buy just for the stupid coin.

But I'll probably return the game to them and keep the coin. Have the game preordered from Amazon for $5 less.  :whistle2:
