PSNOT 3.0 - Let's Talk About University of Kentucky, Baby!

Switch Galaxy Ultra looks like the only immediately interesting game from this lineup. Is that Locoroco game new or does it just not have trophies?

EDIT: Answered by Tyler. Yuck (the no trophies part, not the answered-by-Tyler part).
I reviewed Switch Galaxy Ultra back in the day. Even has a shoutout to Tyler!

It's decent enough in short bursts with lots of content, but wears on you trying to unlock new levels. It's definitely pretty.

The US Blog lists the GoW game as the Vita version and not the PSP one.  Wont matter much since I have played it, but at least it is a Vita native game with trophies if it is true.

Can people stop posting those "leaks" now? When's the last time one of them was right?

AFAIK, the portable GoWs were never released with trophies on Vita. It would be weird if Ghost of Sparta got a trophy list on Vita and Chains of Olympus didn't. This is probably Sony just trying to save face.

There was never a Vita version of Ghost of Sparta. They just listed it incorrectly.

Edit: Vig'd. Kinda.

Yea only listing on the psn store is the psp/vita version, IE no trophies.

They got released on ps3 in a double pack with trophies though right?

The game has no direction, and basically incentivises you to go as slow as possible, since the only objective that really matters is collecting those blue blobs. The first 60% of every level is entirely meaningless. This says it all:

About three-quarters to two-thirds of the way through a level, you will enter a mining hole to collect the pricey blue blobs known as tantalum. Instead of being tied to the road, though, you take flight. It can be a little jarring switching control schemes for these sections (I preferred the shoulder buttons for lane switching to the less precise analog stick, which is required for the tantalum collecting sections), and even more jarring trying to line yourself up correctly so that you actually make the collection. This precious substance is your ticket to unlocking more highways as you go through the game, with a maximum of 10 available in each level.

After you emerge from your globule gathering, you have to complete another section of the course before arriving at your next port, but you lose some of your newly gathered loot every time you collide with an obstacle. It’s an interesting concept, but one I feel needs more work. I don’t like how your progress in a game is tied to how well you do in only the last part of a level. You could conceivably have a perfect first part of the level, hitting all boost pads and avoiding all collisions, but if you can’t maneuver to the proper spots to collect enough tantalum, or worse if you collect all of it but can’t maneuver around the road once you get back to it, you’re stuck. I’ve replayed levels more times than I would like just to try and get one or two more blobs so I can move on. And in these situations I would purposely go as slow as possible heading into the mine by crashing into every gate and drone I saw, so that I would be going equally as slow when I emerged on the other side with my cargo. This sort of defeats the purpose of a game build around speed.

It could have been a fun game but it completely borked your reason for playing each level.

Oh thats right. I forgot those went to PS3 and not Vita when they were ported. It was the 1 and 2 that went to Vita. OK, pick your torches back up.

That Nintendo news is a pretty big mess. I think I was hoping as a Wii U owner that those games would just carry over (be backwards compatible) to the NX. The problem is Nintendo was trying to simplify things with the Wii but now we just have all these weird controllers and contraptions (wii remote, nunchuk, gamepad) falling over themselves like a ball and chain. Just give us a controller.

I'll admit I'm so all over the place with Nintendo love\hate but now like the start of the Wii U gen (only bought one because I got a dinger from AWD for $160 Skylanders bundle) I'm just so complacent.

I think them bringing Zelda to the NX is probably smart as they didn't want to just send that game out to die on the Wii U. I always think I really love Zelda and that's why I buy these consoles most of the time but I still haven't finished Wind Waker or Wind Waker HD after all this time...so how much do I really love it? Is it enough any more?

I don't think it's going to help that Nintendo is moving into the mobile space because quality wise their games have already started to suffer even before that decision. Sure it will make them money and their games will strive there but don't think it will help in the console space etc.

I don't know who is actually running the show over there but with all the money in the bank they really should have been building up their teams at this point and focusing in on future talented individuals rather than relying on the old guard at this point.

Sure games like Splatoon and Mario Maker have been bright spots in another wise bleak Wii U buisness but after all this time it's almost unfathomable how they still just don't get it. I get that they like to do their own thing but doing it in their own bubble just continues to hurt them.

Holy fucking scraping the very bottom of the barrel batman! Two ancient games without trophies? C'mon.

I didn't know what to vote in the poll I put up last month, but after seeing this month's PS3 lineup, I'm ready to sacrifice both of them for one more PS4 game.
I expect that is their strategy, several shit months of PS3 content so that they can eventually drop it with the smallest amount of backlash.

It's a good thing trophies affect the game's quality.
I'll bite.

They obviously don't affect the game's quality at all. But if you like trophies, and you have a decent sized backlog (which pretty much all of us here do), then games with trophies are always going to take priority over games without trophies, unless the game without trophies is an absolutely brilliant game (which I doubt Locoroco whatthefuckever is)

God of War is especially dumb, because anyone who owns a PS3 should play the superior HD version.

"I'm excited to play this Locoroco Cocoreccho game that came out a few months ago!"

"Have you heard of this Barack Obama? Do you think we could really have our first African American president?"

"No way Michael Phelps could earn 8 gold medals! Seems impossible!"

"I've been investing in real estate! It's like a bubble that will never burst! $$$$$$$"

2008! What a year!

This is probably right. I'm dreaming that they would make it up to us by adding a PS4 game. They'll just discontinue the PS3 games and just give us 4 games per month.

And nobody will be able to muster up enough strength to care, because all we're missing out on is Locoroco Chocotaco.

Very hyped game, but I don't know anything about it. Guessing its an adventure game?
I played it on Xbox and was pretty lukewarm on it. I'd describe it more as a 2D walking simulator than an adventure game since there aren't really any puzzles of any kind. As your walking through the 2D environment you make Telltale style dialogue choices. That's kind of it. I could be fine with all of that if the story was great, but it didn't do much for me. I kept expecting some sort of big twist or something to make it more interesting, but nope. Writing was okay I guess. Oh and you can beat it in like 4 hours. Easy pass at the $20 they're charging.

I'll bite. Why??? Why does the non-trophy game have to be absolutely brilliant to take precedent over the trophied one? Shouldn't being the better game period make it take precedent? No need to rehash the whole discussion as I think we've done it enough before. But you can see why some would view this reasoning as pretty silly.

I should have figured it was a 4 hour walking simulator. Seems like those are the only type of indie games that can ever build hype anymore.

Doesn't the sentence before that one take care of that? If you like trophies and trophy hunting, it's not a stretch to say you'd want to keep earning them if you have the opportunity. Playing non trophy games doesn't help you with that.

Earning trophies is fun for lots of people. Ranking up and beating a friend in gamer score or level can be fun. I never used to care. I do care a bit about trophies but not as much as others do here.

Do you play games with scores? Do you care what your score is or your K/D ratio is? I think for some trophies are a bit like that a way to measure their progress with games.

It also nice because people can see what you are playing on your trophy card without you having to manually change anything in your signature. It also makes keeping track of games you've played the past year super easy.

Like I said, I get that you guys like trophies, I just think your priorities get out of whack sometimes. "I wouldn't mind checking out this God of War game I never played. Hmm, no trophies.. guess I'll start Dreamals instead."

I'd think it would be nice for you to do the occasional no trophy game. You can just play it until you've had your fill and move on instead of forcing yourself to grind 1000 more kills/find every collectible/replay 2 more times on higher difficulties.

I would respect that they put Ghost of Sparta on the list if they'd made it cross-buy with the PS3 version. They've done that with games that aren't cross-buy normally before, and with GoW being Sony property it would seem easy enough for them to do it.

Eh, just looking at most of the trophy stats for people in here, I don't think there are too many of us that actually go for the 7x replay/collectable/kill grind if we're done with the game. The couple guys that do, it seems to be their thing, which is cool for them.

I know personally If I feel like a game is overstaying its welcome, I'll just quit. Unless I really enjoyed the main game and want to have that 100% to show for it.
