I dunno if this is in store or if it's been reported, but I just got an e-mail from ToysRUs.com and it has a PSP for $169.99...just thought I'd pass that along to anyone interested (dunno much about the PSP so I dunno if it's a good deal or not)

Just a heads up for those interested, the rumors are that stores and Sony are clearing stock before the introduction of the PSP 2.0, or Lite, or whatever you want to call it.

I have a feeling that this is just a needed price drop, though I would have rather seen them go to $149.99 personally. I wouldn't doubt that there will be a new itteration of the PSP, but I think we won't see anything until spring 2009.

Those rumors have been around for a long long time. Perhaps before the DS Lite rumors popped up. Probably just a lot of cynicism to destroy sales. Not that the PSP is a great machine by any means (well, actually, the machine is kinda nice it's just the software that's weak), but by the time they come out with a new one, it'll be time for a new one.

I'd imagine it'll be 150 around the time the Lite falls to a 100. It doesn't exactly have the quantity of caliber titles the DS has, but the machine itself feels like (and is) a legitimately more expensive machine. I doubt they'll ever lower it to near DS Lite levels until its time is quite simply over.

I still have no desire for a PSP. The single analog is a major turnoff for me. Make mine dual or nothing at all.

I doubt we'll see a PSP Lite. PSP2 with dual analog sticks...sure. My PSP is collecting dust in a bookcase...I haven't turned it on in months, although I keep buying clearance games for it for some reason. I have like 20 sealed games now that I'll probably never play and 20 or more opened games that I never play. I wish I would have put it all on Ebay before the price drops.

That pic was in the email and i liked it so thats that.

I just bought 007: Russia with Love (PSP) for $5 at local BB yesterday. But i still waiting for PSP LITE or possible it'll be little cheaper when PSP LITE coming out this FALL.
Does the PSP still have a dead pixel problem or has Sony addressed that problem?
It's not as bad as it was at launch, but it is still there. It is an inherent problem with LCDs although getting a 'perfect' unit isn't as impossible as some would have you think. I'd still want to buy a PSP at a store so I could check it out and easily return it... (Best Buy gave me no hassles last year, so I'd assume it's still ok now, to return with dead pixels)

Maybe although Sony Denies it, but what else would they do. I bought one anyway, there's been alot of good games of late, and then Sony allowing Full rez Video convinced me. If they eventually come out with a smaller lighter unit with Flash Memory, then I'll use this as a backup.

as long as the psp uses memory stick pro duo, im never getting one. it would be awesome with preferably micro sd, tolerably mini sd or drudgingly regular sd.

I am no Sony fanboy by any means, but the PSP is not a bad system, and MSPD is not even remotely as expensive as it used to be. You can easily find a 4GB stick for $70, which is not bad at all.

The PSP also has a larger RPG library than the DS, although most of them are garbage. Tales of Eternia was an exceptionally good game though, if you missed it in its first iteration. The Ys game is not bad, and there are a lot of traditional RPGs that are worth playing. Daxter, Syphon Filter, Kingdom of Heroes (I think that is what it is called), Lumines, and Metal Gear Ac!d 1 and 2 are all worth looking at.

The big reason that I have not been able to put my PSP down in the past week or so is Puzzle Quest. Imagine Bejeweled mixed with Heroes of Might and Magic. It is the greatest thing ever. It is out of the DS as well, but I prefer the PSP version.

It's Kingdom of Paradise, a real-time action RPG that's actually pretty good. The PSP is a great system and has plenty of quality software covering most of the genres. As far as a redesign or PSP2, at this point it's just a crapshoot. They both seem inevitable, but you might be waiting for quite a while.

also with a redesign PSP you wont be able to play homebrew or emulator, which really makes the PSP worth the money.

Gamespot says the drop is to "mark the occasion" of the 2-year anniversary of the system in NA. That very well may be the case, I don't know.

This may very well be the case. But Sony is not averse to console redesigns, as we all know. I can't imagine we'll see a PSP2 before we see a redesign of the original. Maybe not next week, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear an announcement this year.

I'm not buying another PSP (went through 2 since launch...sooooo dissapointed) until Disgaea Portable is released. I will buy one that very day.Hopefully we'll see another price drop or have confirmation of a redesign by then. I am definitely in no rush.

I heard about this price drop this morning and the first thing I thought of was a redesign should be coming soon. Even if that is true, I still won't buy it unless it drops another $20 more.

All those with PSP's collecting dust:

MOD IT!

SNES/NES/GBA/PSX/N64 emulation to go is amazing...

SO tempted to buy one, probably get it used though.

Really nice price, I've been waiting for a drop on this for a while. I think I might wait until Gamestop drops their prices on used ones first, and then maybe pick up one of those instead (I'm looking to install a custom flashware on it, so I'm seeing if they'll have a 1.5 available). The system really does look to have a lot to offer, and my DS hasn't been getting much use lately since I've been so bored with the games that have been released on it recently, so hopefully the PSP will fill my handheld void.

I picked up a couple of PSP games from the recent Best Buy clearance since I anticipated this would happen soon. Can't wait to play them, they're games I was really looking forward to and all I needed was a price drop on the PSP.

i seem to go through cycles of buying one, playing it for awhile and then selling it approximately a year later. lumines is just that good of a game.

what exactly comes in that package? i might actually pick one up (again) once i get another job over summer break.
