PSP and DS screen comparison
The one thing I've never understood is why Nintendo fanboys say the PSP titles are all ports. Are not the DS titles are ports so far as well?

Oh, and I wouldn't be so quick to say the PSP has RPG's locked (all it could be that way in the future). Let us not be quick to forget that Namco announced a Xenosaga and Baten Kaitos game for DS...
Yeah, a lot of the RPG's are ports and there are many more. Though ports are important for any system to suceed, it makes the launch go more smoothly if consumers can recognize some of the games since not everyone reads mags or goes to forums.

I don't see myself buying remakes of games from prior systems (especially games I already own). I would want the system for the new games, that would be platform specific and show off the high quality of the product. (i.e., MGS' is to PS2, Metroid Prime is to NGC, Halo1/2 is to Xbox)

Is this what we've found so far? If I've missed any, let me know.

DS:
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Final Fantasy 3
Xenosaga
Baten Kaitos
Harvest Moon
Pokemon Pearl/Diamond
Egg Monster Hero
Vandal Hearts
Lunar
Grandia
Secret of Mana
Shin Megami Tensei
Tengai Makyo
Spectral Force
Zelda
Gyakuten Saiban (a lawyer RPG, US release iffy at best)
Fushigi no Dungeon (Nightmare of Druaga)
Survival Kids
Kawa no Nushi Tsuri (a fishing RPG, unlikely for US release)
Animal Crossing DS
Unnanounced Gamearts game
Unnanounced Marvelous game
Unnanounced Namco game

PSP:
Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII
The Gaghary
Kings Field
Persona
Princess Crown
Tenchi no Mon
Gagharv Trilogy
YS VI - The Ark of Napishtim
Level-5: New RPG
Tales of Eternia
PoPoLoCrois Monogatari: Pietro Ouji no Bouken
Generation of Chaos: Shin Tenmakai
Makkai Wars

New Seiken Densetsu, Lunar, Grandia and Shin Megami Tensei has me sold on the DS. To a lesser extent, FF 3 and the possibility of Mother 3. I think Mother 3 is for the GBA though.

But I will wait and see for RPG developments on the PSP.

First, I could swear crisis core was supposed to be an action game not an rpg. Second, I'mnot a big fan of counting "unannounced" games untill they're announced because they could go away at ANY moment untill they are... and sometimes even after they are.

I thought it was only fair since someone cited an unnanounced game for the PSP, but, I don't care either way. Thats why I put them at the bottom.
:p :p :p :p :p :p :p i'm still in colleage , hoping one day i'll be working with Microsoft or Sony someday....
btw, PSP will kill DS  and that is a good thing for all of Nintendo fanboy. Why is it good for Nintendo fanboy? hehe you'll see the Next Gameboy maybe in a year, if Nintendo not BS about support 2 handhelds at the same time . I hate Nintendo for milking people. just my thought ....
Why are you worried about Nintendo milking anyone, unless they've been milking you. Of course, that's not Nintendo's fault, is it?

Interesting that we are talking about RPG's. As far as Square Soft goes, its seems like they are going with DS and Nintendo this portable generation. In a recent interview Miyamoto seemed to say that when Nintendo DS goes online (which will be "sooner than you think"), SquareEnix will have something to do with it.

"Miyamoto: The management of the company has lately had talks with all sorts of other companies about whether we should handle the Internet. However, that will probably bear fruit after three or four years.

Hamamura: That long of a time span?

Miyamoto: With the DS, I think it’ll be faster. I think it will take more time to get users and investors to the same level of interest. In shaping the future, we’re moving in a positive direction. I can’t say anything more until it’s formally announced.

Hamamura: I see. For something that interesting, I don’t think Nintendo will be lacking.

Miyamoto: Yeah, because of our cooperation with Square-Enix. [Smiles] I think there’ll be a hint hidden in Animal Crossing. "

I wouldn't go so far as saying nintendo won Squeenix back or anything, remember Nintendo funded an entire square studio for the purpose of making nintendo games so if he only thing they ever created was Crystal Chronicals it'd be kinda sad.

as a matter of fact i wonder if that's not already what they're planning, a crystal chronicals MMOPRG for the DS.

It would be a major coup for Nintendo if they could. Imagine how massive a hand-held Final Fantasy MMORPG would be in Asia alone. It could change how MMORPG's are played... You could go to a hotspot somewhere and find a group of real people to play with.

Sony would have to respond with a handheld Everquest. But if they're already working on it at Square, Nintendo would have a major headstart.

I don't know, remember that Square-Enix is already on for the FF7-ish RPG for the PSP. That is guaranteed to generate a LOT of interest.

On the DS, Square has:
Egg Monster Heroes
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Slime Morimori Dragon Quest
Dragon Quest Monsters
Seiken Densetsu (Secret of Mana)
Final Fantasy III

On PSP, Square has:
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

They say Crisis Core is an "action RPG". Not sure what they mean by that.

I thought that was the DVD movie of FF7 Square was releasing.

Isn't it another side game of FFVII like the Vincent game coming out? And i think Square's idea of an action-rpg would be something with a little more action that FFX-2.

Advent Children is the movie they're releasing for DVD and whatever Sony's PSP format is. It was going to be a game with Vincent, but now its just a movie instead.
This remineds me so much of the GameGear vs GameBoy years.

And we all know who won that Without color or backlight.
Game Gear lost because it was lacking in procesing power, it just couldn't do the things the GB could do because it had to render colors and power te light in addidion to running the game.

The PSP does not share that shortcoming.
