PSP E3 lineup weak sauce?
Maybe next year Sony will spend some time during the conference to talk about their current systems.
Not a chance. PS3 will be out (or just around the corner) so I highly doubt it...

Death Jr.
Coded Arms
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Infected
GripShift
Bounty Hounds

Those are just a few non-ports and non-sequels.

I dunno, I think I'll still stick to my statement from before, that the PSP had a awesome launch lineup where as the DS had crap (outside of Feel the Magic and a port of Mario 64) so It's only fair the DS gets the stronger hand this holiday season with hotter games. But I was still expecting a few good titles for the PSP to come out of E3, and it looks like the only two titles I'm looking forward to right now are Burnout Legends and FF7 crisis core or whatever It's going to be called for the PSP, but I still don't have luminies yet either. If there were ten titles that I needed for the PSP badly, that would actually be bad news considering I spent $250 on the system, and the games run from $40-$50 a pop. I don't think the PSP needs to make a huge impact for another year with the current amount of money I'm pouring into it.

I agree the DS did have a crappy launch lineup. It was obvious it was rushed to market. Still, there are quite a number of solid DS games coming now:

Metroid Prime Hunters
Animal Crossing
New Super Mario Bros.
Nintendogs
Mario Kart DS
Mario and Luigi 2
Castlevania DS
Viewtiful Joe DS
just to name a few

So far I just haven't been as impressed with the PSP. I even thought that maybe Burnout would get me, but it didn't. Playing it I kept thinking how its just not near as good as Burnout 3 on my XBOX. Obviously the killer app for PSP will be GTA, but even that series I'm getting a bit tired of. Hopefully we hear about some more original games coming out for the PSP soon.

On the battery subject.... I just bought some newer rechargables over the weekend. I could have spent $15 more and got a 15 minute charger instead of the 6 hour charger.

Point being if they cant fix the battery yet why not put out an awesome quick charger? I mean the complaint is it has to be charged but if it could be charged in 15-20 minutes then it really wouldnt matter as much.
Are you kidding me? Sony didn't give up on the PSP, there will be plenty of more titles coming out from now and next year, Sony was just busy showing off PS3 stuff because they didn't want everyone to drool over the 360 and Revolution at E3.
I'm pretty tired of hearing that line of reasoning. If they had some games to show for the PSP, they'd show them. It's not like Sony is the only company who makes PSP games anyway, and I don't think that they honestly believe that not showing more PSP games will increase interest in the PS3. The fact that they had old launch games on display and not one killer app playable is not a good sign, plain and simple.

Quick charging is a property of the battery chemistry, not the power supply.

So a new battery would be required.

Only one of those games is not a port or a sequel.

PSP actually has more original games than DS.

Coded Arms
Lumines
Mercury
Death Jr.

and a few more I can't remember off the top of my head.

There was actually very little PS3 at the show. There was a hardware mockup on the show floor and that was pretty much it. You also got to see some "commercials" at the Sony Press Conference.

Uh, touchscreen? He was just mentioning some of the more popular unreleased DS games (he didn't even mention Metroid Pinball, Trauma Center, or Phoenix Wright).

If you want to delve into the games already released by including Lumines and Mercury, then you'd have to look at FTM, PacPix, and Yoshi.

Fun-factor, Graphics, and Overall goodness are different than originality, but if you're debating that, then the DS wins 8 times over.
I miss the good old days where e3 had more stuff than you could possible see in three days.
Its still like that, its just most of the games are sequels and FPS. Oh well, the gamer is now only the secondary customer...it seems like games are now published with Walmart and Target being the primary focus.

That's exactly how I felt about E3, but it wasn't very much different from when the PS2 was first announced. Back then it was Metal Gear Solid 2, Gran Turismo 3, Tekken Tag,.... well pretty much the same as PS3's line up, only the number on the end of the game is smaller.

As a gamer who's not into FPS, i've yet to see anything that really interests me about the next generation.

me too.

Please don't make this a DS vs. PSP debate. Both systems have ports yada yada yada....the debate is old. My main point was the PSP feels more been there done that because the hardware so closely matches what were playing on home consoles. It's not a bad thing it just makes me wonder if the whole portability of the PSP is worth it when the experience is so similar.

jkam,

I totally agree with you. Its definitely keeping me from getting uber excited about the PSP. As I said before, having played Burnout on the PSP, I thought for sure that would be a game to get. However, since I played Burnout 3 on the XBOX to death, I found the PSP version to be less than satisfying.

I do hope the PSP is able to kind of branch out away from the current gen of consoles and get some killer apps for it. It certainly has lots of potential.

I believe it comes down to how willing the developers will be to make their game for PSP instead of putting it on the PS2 where the install base is much bigger.
me three
Me four, five and six. I feel like FPS are really hurting the industry.

I look at it this way, it's disapointing how few really cool titles are on the way but understand that developers are still trying to find a middle ground between what makes a good portable game compared to a console game because the line on the PSP is so thin.

While playing MGA I kept thinking how easier the story would be to understand if it were voice acted and then I realized I'm only thinking like that because thats the way all the MGS games where and this looked so much like one of them. If konami had thought that way I'd only be able to play the game for 2 or 3 hours at a time because voice is usually streamed for long cinemas on console games. This is probably why we see so many ports, the developers see these games that have the right type of build that would allow them to run off a UMD in a way that maximizes the format and seem like the perfect game for the system. In the meantime they have other teams working on GBA or DS games because nintendo portables are easy money in comparison. They probably have smaller teams working on PSP projects because of that.

Sony knew they were going to have a hard time breaking into the portable market which is probably evident by the large number of UMD movies that came out in the last month or so to make it's other featers seem more valuable. Now if only hey'd crank up that Memorystick Duo production rate.
