Firmware 3.9:

Skype is now available (only to PSP Slims)
It needs the $20/$30 remote and headphone combo to work with it

It's a month old but I just found about it and I'm quite amused.

Don't know how many other people also get the actual firware from their psp, but if you do there's this (not gunna comment on if it's worth losing the ability to play homebrew files or etc)

http://www.us.playstation.com/PSP/About/SystemUpdate

Or you can download it off of your psp (settings-system settings-network update)

Enjoy.

Personally I love the Alt. Radio Station on Internet Radio Player I

ive been out of it (again) with psp fw.

whats the latest custom one? have they been able to get that remote play to work on a custom fw?

Ironic to see this thread about the month-old official 3.80 as the custom firmware hack of it, 3.80 M33-2, just finally came out today. http://www.dark-alex.org/ Took them a while to hack it, but threw it on my PSP earlier today without a hitch.

And yeah, remote play has been working for quite some time in the custom firmwares.

Only reason I found out about Internet Radio (and thus created this topic) was because a friend of mine told me about it earlier at school, strange though.

Ay! Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to get that done sometime soon. No issues so far?

I think a lot of people go to 3.71 M33-4 before 3.80.

i heard that theres an option that m33 will automatically update your firmware now. network update feature i think its called. im gonna get a psp soon should i get a slim one? Is my only option pandoras battery to put a custom firmware on it. And also when new games come out that require a higher firmware version do i need to wait for a custom one to be released to update succesfully.

It won't automatically update, but you can update the latest version via "network update," but you still have to hit the buttons to make it happen. This feature is very nice.

If you do get a slim, pandora's battery is your only option. And from what I understand, if you get a phat with a more recent firmware, you'll also need pandora's battery. I say get a slim because of features (component to TV, GPS, etc) that don't exist on the phat. While the phat can run some older homebrews and emulators that aren't compatible on the slim, a lot of these programs are getting patched/ported to work on newer models. If you don't care about some of the newer features, you might want to get a phat with an older firmware because it will be easier to put custom firmware on it, and the system will be a bit cheaper.

If a new game comes out with a higher firmware, don't install the firmware because it will wipe the custom firmware off of the PSP. Wait until a new custom firmware comes out. Honestly, it's never been a problem for me.

thanks alot man i guess ill save up for a new one. I think a friend of mine has pandoras battery.

yeah, confused me a bit going from 3.71m33-4 to 3.80m33, but the readme file guided me through it. now i'm at 3.80m33-5, and the radio is awesome.

ok so i tried going to 3.71 and got the same msg

has anyone tried it (or, darkalex's quick-release version, even)? i've heard some lag stories... still, this is quite interesting...

I read that it's lagging out in the music player really badly, even buffering between songs.

hm, i guess i might as well wait now, hoping for a better update... it's not like any of the newer games will need this firmware for about 3 months, right? and who knows what'll be added soon...

Skype is useless, you cannot even text message with it which forces you to buy the headset combo (hopefully dealextreme will come up with an ultra cheap headset combo eventually) even though I don't think the people I chat with on skype will want to be called by me on a PSP lol.

Add to the fact that this system connects to nearly NO unsecured wireless hotspots and you have a failure

Has anyone tried PSP Skype with the chotto shot camera? I'm wondring how good the video is.. I don't have a slim so I can't try it myself. :(

On the plus side for those of us who have the fatty the Go!Messenger is supposed to work on 3.90, but you have to set your PSP to Euro region or it won't work..
