PSP GO price drop to $149.99

I really want a PSP Go but there are games that are UMD only that I would miss out on, so I am pretty much forced to get a 3001 model. :(
psp 3000 is a far better deal at $130.
Certainly debatable. If I want to download anything onto a 3000, I need a memory card, which is going to bring the price right up to, if not over, a $150 Go.

Just a question of whether I want to have to hack it to play any UMD-only games.

Depends on what you value.
The Go comes with 16GB of internal mem.
The PSP bundles comes with maybe a 2GB mem. stick.
A 16gb mms for the 3000 will set you back about 40 bucks on Amazon.
The Go will actually fit in your shirt pocket. The 3000 will not fit in a pants pocket unless you've got some big ass pockets.
Do you desire portability and more memory or a UMD drive/access to every game but a couple and a swappable battery?

If you have one of those $50 off @ Target coupons from Carl's Jr/Hardee's, this could be excellent for you.

I believe the 3 free games are still included. Some boxes now include a DVD for the games. That offer is running until Sept. of 2011. Other Go(s) will still be eligible via PSN until the end of March, I believe.

My Big Boss Pack 3000 has been relegated to nightstand duty while my Go "goes" (bad pun intended) with me almost everywhere.

The go's price is now tolerable. Like two yrs ago when it shouldve been.

Save your hard earn money for next gen portable or 3ds

All Sony has to do is get rid of the internal memory (or throw in say 2GB) and drop the price to like $99 and include the 3 free game offer and it'll be an acceptable deal

Roll your eyes at this if you want, but this product has been handled extremely poorly and was a complete failure for sony

A noob question, if I have games on UMDs, does SONY automatically (read magically?) give me access of my game libray (where available) on PSN to download onto the Go?

I'm guessing no way, but just wondering...

I have a 2000 cfw and a 3000 official fw, with 30+ UMD games. It'd be stupid if I have to rebuy my games to play on the Go...

Edit: In terms of memory, I got a SDmicro to pro duo converter at dx for $2, and a 16Gb kingston from Frys for $13 (after $10 rebat).

Well 3rd party developers/Sony has had the chance to release some sort of UMD drive add on for the Go and didn't do so. I really think I should get the PSP 3k right now. Yes the PSP2 is coming but there is no UMD for it screwing PSP disc backward compatibility. I am tired of waiting so most likely I will be picking up a PSP very soon.

As for target...damn you'll be lucky if it gets that far without someone in electronics stashing it behind a few other items in the case.

Good to know! I was ready to get a PSP-3000 as soon as I heard the price dropped to $130. After just getting a 160gb PS3 and I've been considering a PSP for some of the remote features along with the games.

The Go is more attractive because it looks more portable. Even though I've got a DS Lite, my Game Boy Micro still gets a lot of use because it fits in my pocket along with my cell phone. I'll have to do a hands-on comparison sometime.

If I want portability I'll just play games on my iphone.

Dedicated handheld machines should just be big so they can have longer battery life and be more comfortable to hold. DSi XL had it right.

Hopefully PSP2 will come out wth an XL model down the road.

How many games do you need to sell before you recoup the $20 difference? 5? I bought the PSP Go for Black Friday at this price, and I've been very happy with my decision. It's both thinner and smaller than my DS Lite. I can convert any movie and just load it into the Go.

A decently deal, was nicer at the $100 I got it for. :D

As for selling UMDs, I never sell my games, so I never worry about that sort of thing. Plus, all of you people holding on to playing UMDs are going to become obsolete when the NGP comes out anyway. You're just delaying the inevitable, while I build a collection of digital PSP games that I buy on sale that I'll also be able to play on a glorious NGP. :bouncy:

Well to be fair, it's not like you can't have a UMD for collections and a Digital copy when the price is right for them.

I will say that a game you buy for 20 or 30, how much can you sell it for to GS or even ebay? 10 max?

While I dont think were there yet, an all digital world is the future. And I can say, when my laptop dies, I like that all I have to do to get my game collection back is open up steam , log in and redownload. No searching through jewel cases, finding serial numbers etc

That said, Im not buying a psp go lol...the only time I would game on the go is on the subway, and seriously...my iphone does the job with games costing from free- 2.99

It's weird, I always HATE mainstream or casual gaming, but iphone has started to get some halfway decent stuff. I dont know about the PSP phone, the xperia play, but Sony is heading in the right direction, but like the psp go, they may be 1 step ahead of everyone else

I'm not sure about the procedure but instead of having to download the 3 free games from PSN, they can be installed onto your Go via the Media Go software on a PC.
They may have done away with this promo though now that they dropped the MSRP. Not sure.

I went the iPhone game route for a while and eventually came to the realization that it was an empty gaming experience and that I missed the physical buttons of a traditional handheld.

We would assume psp games dled to psp device would play on NGp. But have Sony announced the storage memory for NGP? I dont know. Assuming it will match Pspgo's internal storage at 16gb, it won't be enough to have psp, NGP games in quantity .

I was hoping sonya next gen portable hardware would be small enough to carry in my pants . I'll buy anyway cuz I'm big nerd

Depends on how big of a person you are. I'm well over 6ft tall, and I wear normal sized jeans that don't have "big ass pockets", and I can fit the PSP3000 in my front or back pockets easily.

This is the price the Go should have debuted at. If it were this price they would have sold a lot more. $140 is the amount i'll apply towards the purchase towards the NGP.

I've never had a problem fitting a regular psp in my pocket.

The Go is definitely preferable IMO for portability though.

Please post pics.

You can insert a 3000 into your pockets without it poking out in normal jeans?! Must be some sort of interdimensional rift in the bottom of those pockets.
I too wear normal jeans and even without anything else in my pocket, the 3000 is cumbersome; front and back.

Now this, I completely agree with...

I'd wait till $100 or less but one thing alot of ppl are overlooking...all the current PSP UMD games will drop to $10 as they will be "outdated". Will you have a better chance of scoring cheaper games digitally, on clearance or instore during b1g1, b2g1, b1g1 50% off deals. Target already has dropped all the PSP prices this week by 20%.

These are some weak arguments against the 3000...It CAN fit in your pants, you can download games and have UMD games at the same time, and the memory part, you can buy a 16 GB sdhc card for $20 and a sdhc to sd converter for $.99...and yes it will work because thats exactly how I use mine... Overall, I think the 3000 is a better deal.

Let me clarify. I'm not against the 3000. I love mine but it's bulky. The Go is sleeker more efficient.
If any of you who downplay the Go have purchased an Apple product, I'll laugh. How did you justify the premium you paid for an iOS device?
My argument is mainly against people who dismiss the Go simply because they know little about it and believe the FUD.
And as someone said on joystiq, I'm paraphrasing here; people who are still complaining about the Go price now, never intended to buy a Go from the beginning. You just love to hate. :D

That's right memory sticks are much cheaper than before plus there's still bundles with assassin's creed, umd movies and a 2 GB mem. stick.

That's actually a good point and yea at $150 it seems like the right price for it, but I doubt I'll be getting it.

And I think most people's answer to that question would be: "because it's cool..." or "because it's an iphone mannnn AND ITS TOUCH SCREEEN!!!:bomb:" lol :D

I think you're just tiny. They're normal jeans, just for tall people (36" in-seem).

There's probably 2-3 inches between the top end of the PSP and where it would start coming out of the pocket.

My Droid X will fit in the same pocket with the PSP, but that does make it too bulky.

Looks like the PR department forgot to tell everyone else about this coming drop. Not a single retailer has the new price, and scanning their own store (Sonystyle) still shows the $199 price tag...

The PSPgo has TV out too, you know.

And I can fit a normal PSP in my pocket, but a PSPgo fits sooo much more comfortably because it's smaller, and I don't have to carry/switch out UMDs on the go with a PSPgo.

There's honestly no reason to choose a PSP-3000 over the PSPgo unless you've decided that you'll stick with a dead end format system. But much like I don't need a GBA anymore to play GBA games ever since I got a DS Lite, I do not want to have to need a PSP anymore once I get a NGP.

Psp Go is the future! Psp 3000 people are stuck with umd and do not have access to the future! Digital download 4 life! Wait...wut? It can download stuff too? Ummm, Psp Go is cooler lookin'!

This thread is hilarious! WHO THE fuck CARES IF IT FITS IN YOUR POCKET OR NOT? Shit man I never put anything that has a screen into my pocket....not even in my cell phone. Your asking for trouble when you put shit down your pocket :D

...why are your pants wet? Hey everyone, blindinglights peed his pants!

I really can't agree that a regular PSP fits well in your pockets. It might not stick out the top of your pocket, but it definitely makes a rather large (and potentially much needed) bulge in your pants. Maybe if you're wearing JNCOs or something then sure, but regular joe jeans? Nah. By the way this might be the stupidest argument ever, and thats even on internet terms!

No No..... Blindinglights response to this is that it was swamp gas reflected off the surface of Venus. :D

Damn, I didn't even notice . The hyperdimensional rift in my pocket caused the gravitational field in the immediate area to shift and the liquid went upwards.

Actually it was the

Or maybe, it was just the shadow created by my arm.

Anti-gravity piss is probably the best guess.

Either way, I don't see how anyone likes the Go because with digital distribution the prices are less likely to drop. There's no space taken up by a product, so it's not like it'll ever drop to a super low price to "get them off shelves". Until you can get game download cards for 50 to 75 percent off at Target or Toys R Us or any one of the other retailers that I regularly find clearance games at, I'll stick with physical media.
