PSP price rumors
I think this thing is going to flop because the price is way too high. Also the fact that they are using the business model of making money on hardware(as stated by SCEE pres. ) instead of on software is just dumb.
You sir are simply wrong. The model of selling hardware for profit is the only way this will work. From what I understand the system is not just a game system which means you could buy it and NEVER buy a game.

Look at Samsung as a successful hardware seller.

A price of $300 may be too high for you but not others. It will sell just fine at $300.

But it WILL put the PSP out of the hands of kids, which is a huge market for games, but especially for handhelds. If a parent is given the choice to pay $100 for a game boy advance or $300 for a psp, which do you think they'll choose? It may sell "fine", but I don't see it taking over the GBA, not at that price.

Yes, initially the PSP will be out of reach for kids. Its not really designed for kids in the first place. I mean, how many kids really have a collection of movies and MP3s? The PSP market is junior high to adult, which is a bigger, more lucrative market anyway. Eventually they will try to take over the kids after gaining more market share.

The $300 price mark is high and may sound absurd to people (especially here), but compare it to most portable mp3 players and video players which are $300-400 in retail stores (i.e. Ipod, etc.).

I'm really hoping they will sell the PSP without all those extra features, instead users should be allowed to pick and choose what they want by purchasing extra internal modules.
