Thanks for the info...I don't understand why people here are having a problem with $50 games....first of all, the website is called cheap ass gamer, we are all here for cheap games, so it kind of makes sense that the majority of those that visit this site to wait for a price drop on the games...2nd of all aren't the DS games priced between $29.99 and $39.99...a $10 difference, but I don't remeber seeing people complain that heavily about the price of the ds games...sony should look at the lack of games sold by nintendo DS launch, and rethink their pricing policy on games
I don't think it's necessarily that people are cheap and that's why they are upset at the $50 price point. I think it's because we've always knew that portable games weren't as good as console games. Because of this, they should be priced lower than a console game.
But now that the PSP is introducing portable games that look almost as good as console games, it kinda makes more sense that they are more expensive. However, that doesn't mean the majority of the gaming public will accept this. I know I won't. I'll either wait for a game to drop to $20-$30, or just pass on it all together.
Exactly Deadpool. About your console games comment. The 35-40 dollar thing.
Anyway, I can see your argument on development here, person I'm quoting from but I still am not going to shell out $50 for a new portable game. PERIOD. I'm especially not shelling that if it's a port of a PS or PS2 port.
The GBA and most of the GB DS games have been priced $25-35 overall. Seriously Sony will have to look at the prices of the portable games on the DS, I don't care HOW nice the PSP games look if they're $15 more every time. Also if Sony runs their portable market anything like Nintendo's we'll see VERY few markdowns and if they're there most will be MINIMAL, like $5-10. However console games have a lot greater markdown and production. Laugh if you want but I feel I'm right, check the figures, seriously. So do you want to pay like $40 most of the time for a PSP game marked down or $25-20 or a bit more for a DS or GBA game marked down?
Also I've argued this before but if your brother really is connected to Sony maybe he could DRILL it through Kaz's head. I've argued that Sony's biggest strength to the PSP is also it's weakness. Because it's so close to the PS2 you're going to see a lot of ports or other things like developers questioning why they should even put a game on a system that's so similar or close to equal graphicswise to the PS2. Why should I put a game on the PS2 when I could spend a few more $'s in developing said game and put it on the PS2 which has an infinitely bigger userbase? Having two systems which have markets mutually exclusive helps. What I'm basically saying is having a graphically inferior system like the DS ensures a separate market. Now follow me here, you're not going to develop or even THINK of developing the same type of game on the DS or the GBA as you would on the GC or you'd be less likely to do it considering the DS's hardware is so much weaker than the GC. Keeping this in mind the DS will receive SOME N64 ports as well as a continuation of the old SNES games that the GBA has always received. Keep in mind some of said games were rare here or not even released and they also are just old and some people may not own the system anymore and think about rebuying said old game. You don't HAVE most of these factors for PSP and THIS is what sells the games for the GBA, this and the great ORIGINAL games for it. You think we'd get a game like "Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories" on the PSP? No they'd try to make a 3D sequel to it on there or just a port of the old one. Heck even the sequel might already be on the PS2 or they might release them at the same time or one after the other. Then consider the PSP version will likely be graphically inferior unless they hold back on the PS2 version. So the ONLY thing we'd be talking about is a portable version of said game with perhaps a few extra things.
Best case for the PSP is that developers treat it like the GBA and make killer original 2D games for it, but that would be a direct threat to Nintendo unfortunately. :?
