I'm trying to remember the name of a PS1 or possibly PS2 rpg, it had an overhead battle system. I believe the battles were active and by that I mean you could run all over the screen. I think there were also team up spells with other group members kind of like chrono trigger/cross. Sorry that's all I can remember, I know there's probably alot of games that fit that description.

Quite a few games match that description. Were the battles real-time like Zelda or turn-based like Chrono Trigger? Was there a transition when going into the battles? Do you recall any of the characters?

Well I only saw a video on youtube and made a mental note to play the game.... the battles seemed like they were turn based but there was alot of running around for position and the movement during battles was not fixed on a grid characters could just run anywhere it seemed.

I do believe there was a transition from normal play to a battle.

I'm guessing Grandia. I've only played the first two but they both involved people running all over the battlefield despite being turn-based.
