... and the price is just $20. I've only played it over the weekend and it's just as fun and addicting as everyone says.
Great game.

Gah I passed on a cheap copy for DS and now it's out for PS2 and everyone keeps saying how great it is... Gah I need to stop buying games... does anyone know how this version is compared to the PSP one even though I will most likely jump on the PS2 one to play on the TV(yes I know the PSP can be played on Tv's with progressive scan abilities)

Thanks

They all play identically.

Also, PSP's TV-out sucks, because it leaves black bars on all four sides, because Sony was too stingy to add an extra video scaler chip.

I will probably end up getting it for the PS2 anyways but any way you look at it having the option to play the PSP on TV is great even if it is not full screen. The gameboy player did not display a full screen image and no one seemed to pissy about that.

I just have to get a new TV that has the plug in options for those PSP cables...

Not to argue with you, but I feel compelled to point out the considerable difference between the scaling options between the GBPlayer, and the PSP.

The PSP's TV-out gives you one option: a 1:1 pixel ratio, centering the image, leaving everything outside of the PSP's original display resolution of 480×272 plain black. If you have a 720p HDTV, the image will fill about 1/3 of the vertical space; if you have t 1080p HDTV, it'll fill up barely a quarter of the vertical screen.

The GB Player could scale the image to fill almost the entire 4:3 screen, and what little border there was to the picture, you were given the option of filling in with one of a couple dozen (if memory serves) pleasant background images.

For a visual comparison, here's what it looks like using the PSP's TV-out; the area highlighted in green in the is the black border around the game image:

And this is a direct-feed screen capture of what playing a GBA game on the GB player looks like (you can clearly see how little of the screen is taken up by the, in this case, gray border):

In my opinion, the PSP's TV out option is far from ideal. The addition of a simple, cheap video post-processing scaler chip on the Slim models of the PSP could have easily solved this problem, and allowed the game window to fill the entire screen of a 16:9 television. Too late now...if Sony ever did add such a capability to current PSP Slims, via firmware update for instance, it would have to be done in software, meaning that in-game performance would be impacted.

There were quite a few glitches in the original DS and PSP Puzzlequests. I have to think that those glitches were fixed in the XBLA and PS2 versions.

If you've never played this game before you simply have to get it, it's great.

Well thank you for putting words to pictures but all it requires is a TV with the ability to run at 480 I or P right? Anyone have any insight on how that looks and the most basic setup they can run it at?

Thanks though for putting pictures it helped to make more sense out of the HD ratio Noobs like myself.

Gameplay affecting glitch in the PSP version (Teammates). Occasional lockups in the DS version.

DS version had at least one other glitch I experienced. Whenever you first played the game after turning on your DS, the first puzzle was always the same.

I think the psp glitch was that none of your allies and travelling companions powers actually worked at the beginning of matches, making them worthless.

Oh, yeah, forgot that. The complete failure at random seeding.

I never took advantage of that, and only noticed it after clocking 30-ish hours to beat the game and being told about it, so that shows how much I care...

Nope. the "480" refers to the vertical resolution (the second number) not the width (the first resolution). Most TVs, including HDTVs, have the ability to run at 480I since that's standard definition television. If the PSP can only display at its native resolution, then no, you'd still get black bars on all four sides, letterboxing and pillarboxing, in which case, what's the point of having TV out to begin with?
