Surprised to not see a topic about Quake 4 anywhere here (unless I missed it)..

Well I just got back from Quakecon and let me tell you that Quake 4 is totally off the hook. It looks and feels like playing an action movie - I really could not have been more impressed with it. The controls are great, the graphics are fantastic, there's a bunch of variety in gameplay, the vehicles are totally badass, it has a definite cinematic feel - November cannot possibly come fast enough.

definately interested in this game. Though as someone who has never played a Quake game, I am hoping Lost Marine gets close to done around release so I can finish that before picking up Quake 4
The screenshots for the 360 version looked like ass. I hope the PC version is better.
The game looked absolutely fantastic. It looked just as good as Doom3 except there was WAY more stuff happening. They said they were going for 'shock and awe' - The outdoor levels had mechs and bombing runs, dirt and bodies flying everywhere, explosions, everything. Also it was running so smooth - Willits said that it was running on a 6800 which very much surprised me. I thought it would have been a 7800 as a minimum.

There have been two games that I devoted YEARS of playing to. Street Fighter II and Quake III.

Needless to say, I am very eager for this game. Unfortunately I need a serious upgrade from the current PC I have...

933 mhz P III
16 MB Intel Integrated Graphics
384 MB Ram

:bomb:

Or just get an Xbox 360.

You'd spend way more upgrading your PC, and most PC games are (sadly) seeing ports to other systems. There's even talks of games like World of Warcraft making the jump.

It wouldn't surprise me if F.E.A.R was announced for the 360 sometime soon, as well.

I really just need to get a new PC altogether.

I have tons of great PC games right now that I can't run well. I bought them out of fear they may be too hard to find later.

I probably won't get a 360 until Halo 3. I have yet to buy a system recently after launch.

yea but once you factor in things like accessories and paying 60 for games, its really not going to be much savings. You can pick up a ton of PC titles for cheap and pretty much all hardware has seem some large drops lately. For like 600 you could probably throw together something extremely decent if you already have some hardware you don't mind using over (keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer, etc)

and before Monolith works on a port of Fear, I hope they put the effort out to finish Condemned before the end of the year.

I was at QuakeCon too, it totally PWNED! Although honestly I wasn't too impressed with Quake 4, I did preorder it though (Mainly for the tshirt, lol). But it looks pretty good. Best part of QuakeCon: Seeing Fatal1ty whoop some 6year old kids ass in Q4 DM!

I was there too. Didn't get a chance to demo it myself, but I did watch Fatal1ty blow through about 4 randomly-chosen opponents without dying once. Looks like fun stuff, and should hold me over until at least UT2K7 is out.

Off-topic, but to those of you who attended: when were you guys there? I was there Friday evening from about 5-7:30ish. We should make a meet-up thread when QC2006 rolls around.

Cool. I flew in Wed night and stayed until Sunday. Fatal1ty was pretty impressive, but a lot of his advantage was from really knowing the map well (it definitely looks like he had played it many times before).

lol we should have a q3 dm!!! i still play the game. its like the only game i always have installed nomatter what....i used to be good in the dc version but now i just suck ass
I know I could search for it but...

Are there any vids anywhere of Q4 in action?
There's kind of a crappy one on IGN IIRC... I wish they had released a video of the presentation they showed before Carmack's talk, that was badass.

That might be decent. That is one of the few games I can run halfway decently on my PC. I would have to re-install all the files though.

It's amazing how many people were still playing Q3A at Quakecon _6_ years after it came out.. Was definitely the most-played game I saw from walking around.

Other than Street Fighter II (and we all know how huge that was in the arcades), I have put more time into Quake III wanted to do more and got the PC version and played that almost daily until early 2004. Then I switched to another game using the Quake III engine (Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force). I can understand the addiction.

I might jsut have to get Q3A I have it for DC though! Also rockhero, did you see the arcade cabinet someone had in the BYOC?

Yeah I saw that it was pretty sweet. All of the case mods at Quakecon are awesome - People really go to town with them.. A guy sitting a few machines down from me had a totally clear case with these blue LEDs all over it, it was totally sweet.

Yeah, he mentioned that he'd been practicing that map a few days prior to the event, so he definitely had an advantage (besides, y'know, being the best Quake player around and all).

And the case-mods are always one of the best parts of QC. Did anyone else see the fully-submerged aquarium comp?

No I didn't see that one, but I saw the combination case/refridgerator. That one was pretty cool.

Word is that some dude has has a computer running submerged in mineral oil for over a year.
I didn't see the submerged comp and I walked all through the BYOC, maybe it wasn't there?
It was there, I assure you. It was near the back-right corner if you were facing the front of the BYOC.

www.gametrailers.com has a video of multiplayer Q4. The person keeps dying, and there is minimal sound, but you can see it in (semi-blurry/dark) action. I'm more looking forward to Quake Wars:ET (that's the name I think?). Enemy Territory was awesome, if they bring over that addicting class/ranking gameplay with vehicles, I'm there!

I hope a 6600GT will carry me over to these upcoming PC games alright...

I got the DVD special edition of QUake 4 on pre-order.
Carmack got doom 3 running fair(30fps) on Geforce 4 MX420
Im sure that Quake 4 will run fine on a 6600gt.
OCt 11th can't come past enough :(

Definitely my favorite FPS of all time is the Quake series :)

I'm pretty damn excited about this one ... I might actually throw down full price for it, which I haven't done for a game in forever.

Is there a single-player game for Quake 4? I never played Quake 3 because multiplayer contest games like Deathmatch and CTF that have no ending just bore me.

If by "making the jump" you mean also releasing a console version IN ADDITION TO their mainstay PC market which they will never abandon, then yeah, Blizzard may be making that tiny little jump - as opposed to depending upon console release or port to subsidize the cost of making their game, which they don't need, but which many PC game makers perceive as necessary.
