I have never owned a console other than Nintendo and I have a Nintendo Wii and love it, but I am thinking about getting a 360 too. I am trying to figure out if the 360 has enough games to appeal to me to justify the purchase.

I know I want to get Guitar Hero II and the new DDR game when they come out and probably Viva Pinata too, but I don't know if those games are enough to justify buying a whole new system for. I don't like FPS or sports games all that much, I do like RPGs, action RPGs, puzzle games, Rhythm games, and platformers.

Does anyone have any recommendations for other 360 games that might appeal to me?

RPGs... Oblivion is terrific and a great value. Mass Effect will most likely be great... (Bioware never seems to miss)... Puzzle games are often released on the Xbox Live Arcade... Platformers... can't think of any but maybe someone else knows of some... I think its a great console with some amazing games but of course I love shooters...

Now I'm gonna state my opinion and I'll likely be flamed for it, but who cares (do note I love my 360).

Pass on it (for now at least).

The 360 so far has been a console built on shooters/action, sports, and racers (mainly the 1st two). It's true it has some amazing games that don't fit said genres, however they are very few in number (I can think of no mare than maybe 10 that fit the genres you enjoy and some of them weren't really good games IMO). The only thing available in mass on the 360 for the genres you seme to like are in fact on Xbox Live Arcade, something I wouldn't purcahse a $400 console based mainly on.

Now I think this trend will continue as it has brought success for one year and will no doubt do it again. Now, if you don't mind trying shooters or the like then the 360 has some of the best. It's also very possible that the 360 will gain enough popularity to have a much wider variety of real releases someitme in the not too distant future. However, until that potetinal time comes I say hold off on purchasing one til there's more games you'll truly enjoy.

It's also quite possible that you'll get into the genres you say you aren't quite into right now. The shooters and racers on 360 represent some of the best that have ever come out on a home console.

hmmm...I guess I will hold off a little while longer before making a decision.

I don't like FPS games because they give me motion sickness when I play them :whistle2:# and I don't like sports games because I am not really a sports fan.

The main reasons I am looking into getting a 360 are DDR and GHII because they both look like so much fun and neither are available for the Wii (well there is that DDR Mario Mix for the cube but it is near impossible to find and I would rather have a non-mario mix one anyway) and because I would like to be able to play some RPGs with prettier graphics than on my Wii.

But I don't need to decide now because between my Wii and my DS I am kept pretty busy as far as gaming goes.

this question and others belong here

As for an answer to your question, I would go ahead and get it now or right as Guitar Hero II releases. This year will be full of games that are tuned more towards your interest, so you will end up having more than just the 2 games you listed by Xmas time this year. It is true that this system is popular for the FPS and racing games, but it is definitely not fair to say that those are the only interests that the Xbox 360 library meets. The Xbox Live Arcade is a perfect example of that, along with games like Oblivion and Viva Pinata already out and Fuzion Frenzy 2, Mass Effect, Fable 2, etc. coming throughout the year. This is the best year to be a 360 owner, no matter what genre of gaming you enjoy.

I think the upcoming releases of Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata would be enough to justify your purchase in addition to some of the titles earlier.

For RPGs, coolz mentioned all the ones that seem really good, along with Oblivion. As for platformers, Kameo is a blast IMO, and with Banjo Kazooie coming to 360, platformers are getting better.

FPS can give me motion sickness too. Still though you shouldnt stop that from letting you enjoy them. As they recommend for anime and videogames, play in a well lit room and not to close to the tv. Also take breaks even when you dont need em so you dont start getting sick.

Take motion sickness pills before you play. That's what I do :)

For some reason I started getting sick during FPS (though not on the Wii), so I took some motion sickness pills to see if it helped and it did.

From your opening statement I would suggest you buy a ps2 instead. DDR, Guitar Hero I, II, and a mass amount of games fit into the genres you specified. The price of the console is cheaper and the games will also be relatively cheap compared to the new release prices of the 360.

I am in no way trying to dismiss the 360 I just think it is not in your range of gaming.

Just as an FYI, DDR was just announced for the Wii. The 360 seems like a valid purchase at this point, but something tells me that the PS3 will end up being the system for RPGs. You'll get a pretty good balance of action games on both systems. If rhythym games do matter to you, you might want to consider that the region free-ness of the PS3 for PS3 games (not PS2/1 though) will allow you to play import music games like Pop n Music and Beatmania when they receive their eventual Japanese releases.

On the flip side, the 360 seems to have more coming out sooner then the PS3 is the price of a 360 and a couple of games. Also, the 360 seems like it'll be a stronger platform for puzzle games considering Popcap, the kings of ripping off other's games, is a Microsoft exclusive developer.

If you're only looking for one system plus the Wii, I think it might be worth waiting for the PS3 given what you like. Having said that, the 360 has a ton of great games right now. Furthermore, it's not like the original Xbox where your selection of RPGs was KOTOR, Jade Empire, and Fable. The 360 has a decent amount of all the different genres represented even though it's still more of a racers/sports/FPS-3PS system then I'd personally like it to be.

How about 3rd person shooters? Gears of War is awesome and a 3rd person shooter! Less people get motion sickness with 3rd person shooters.
