I was going to try and buy 24 season 2 on ebay and I find a lot of sets being sold out of Asia. Are these just all fake and bootlegs or are they legit. I am pretty sure that they are not good quality but I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with it and has some insight that might be useflu.

alot of asian stuff is bootleg, before you buy something see how many DVD's are in the acutally 24 hours set then check to see how many are in the copy you are looking at. This doesn't always work but its a deal give away for some bootlegs.

is a bootleg operation I have hear to many people get taken on this. I will only buy from US and from someone with a great rateing

yeah thats pretty much what I thought. I wish there was away to just filter out my search so I didn;t have to look through all of them. There are probably 10-1 asia to usa ratio when searching for 24.

How bad is the quality? I've been debating buying the asia versions of the x-files sets just because the real ones are so fucking expensive! I don't particulary want bootlegs, but I wouldn't mind non-us versions, provided they are all in english. Does anyone have any expierance with asian x-files dvd sets?

I know what you mean, I went looking for Command and Conquer generals on ebay a while back and every friggin copy was from this guy in Canada. None of them came with the box since they weren't for US release. But his prices were so low no one else bothered to try and sell the game that month. :(

Actually, bootlegs are good experience, or at least thats my experience with my friend's Japanese copies of the Grudge and the sequel to it...

I noticed this while checking out the Star Trek Next Generation box sets. Probably 95% of the auctions are for the questionable "asian" edition. All 7 seasons in one box. If it is legit, then Paramount is seriously screwing the rest of the world over, making them buy each season seperately.

I would stay away from these auctions.

I generally stay away from Asian DVD auctions. If I'm trying to buy DVDs, I only buy from American sellers, and I also email the seller to make sure it's the american version, without all of the Chinese characters on the box.

Advoid the Asian versions. They might be cheaper, but the quality isn't as good as the real deal. You might have to wait a bit, but its worth waiting for getting the good true USA legit release for a good price.

Trust me, I've been waiting quite a bit on The X-Files. Once I can get them for $50 a season then I'll grab em. :)

Quality of bootlegs in most cases is slightly to vastly inferior to that of the official version. Not to mention, apart from the fact that purchasing from pirates is wrong [you're rewarding crooks, who think it's not okay for Paramount or whoever to make money, but okay for them to do so], it has been argued that pirate sales increase the cost of the legitimate product.
Try half.com, try your local EB or Gamestop stores used sections, try dvdpricesearch.com. If somethings too expensive to buy, don't buy it, or look for a deal, but don't buy a crooked product.

Signals I look for:
* Chinese subtitles or text on the box
* region free
* far fewer disks than the official release
* overseas seller
* no actual picture of the item.

You can also find legitimate non-R1 versions/import versions of a release, if you have an multiregion player. The 'morality'/legality of buying those in the US is questionable, but it's a whole lot better than buying a pirate version. At least you're buying an official version, just an 'imported' version.

I don't have experience with the Asian X-Files DVD sets, but I have the non-Asian ones and they are worth EVERY penny.

I have had good experience with asian dvds! I bought many from one dealer, and they were much cheaper than the american counterparts. Usually you get a better deal on box sets/movie series. Some of the artwork was even the same as the US versions.
