Question about connecting DS for multiplayer

Is it possible to connect 2 DS together to play multiplayer WITHOUT a wireless internet in the area? For example, using ONLY the DS's?, in the car or in a house without a wireless router if you have 2 DS with a game that can play multiplayer with 1 cart? MarioKart, for instance? Or does there need to be a wireless connection regardless if it's over the internet or not?

I followed the instructions with 2 ds in a room with no wireless router, and the other DS couldn't find the software...so I assume you need the router, unless I missed something.

If you do local download play, yes. No router required. No wifi required.

Alright. Great, thank you very much. for the reply. The second DS couldn't find the software so maybe I didn't do it correctly orI didn't wait long enough...I'll try again.
