Question about GameFly Gift Certificates

I know that before you could buy a gift certificate for cheaper than the normal price and redeem it on accounts that have already been active for a while, but now they have a disclaimer "GameFly Gift Certificates are for new members only".  Is it not possible to redeem certificates on accounts that aren't new now?  Can anybody confirm this?

You can redeem certificates.  I've been doing it every other month for the last few years.

Would also like to know if this still works, just went to buy one but saw the disclaimer for NEW users only. Has anyone got one recently?
