Question about half life 1

not knowing how exactly steam worked until recently, I bought Half life platinum pack 2 on ebay. i installed the half life disc along with its unused key and have played well past half the game.

Then today I installed steam on my computer and was able to install all the other games of the package.

anyway, I seemed to have installed both half life 1 from the cd and half life 1 from steam. I consider the steam version superior because I can actually play online matches through this version. I was wondering if there was any way of unifying them, or at least uninstalling one without getting rid of my saves, and continuing my game in the better version of the two.

If you look in H-L's directory, I'm sure you can find where the saves are stored and copy them over to the proper steam folder.

Yeah, PC game saves are usually stored within the system install files somewhere.
