Question About Paypal And Ebay

I know this isn't an auction listing but since it deals with ebay i thought i would post it here.

I do quite a bit of ebay auctions. I am extremely frustrated with paypal and how they deal with refunds and buyer complaints. My question is this.

If i take paypal and money orders but offer free shipping to anyone who pays with a money order but if you pay with paypal you have to pay shipping, will ebay find that in violation of some of their rules?

because ebay OWNS paypal.
I'm sure ebay will be pissed that their prefer form of payment is being discriminated against.

found proof below. Seems like you can't give special treatment (discount) to any 1 form of payment.

"Examples of actions that are not allowed on eBay:

-Charging buyers an additional fee for their use of ordinary forms of payment including acceptance of checks, money orders, electronic transfers or credit cards."

Well that is a bit different as i wouldn't be charging a fee. I would be discounting shipping for use of one method.

They have screwed up rules so i don't know if it is acceptable or not.

because everything about ebay and paypal is F'd. They basically do what they want and make you do things how they want you to.

no, it is the same.
So, a shipping fee not a fee?
You're charging the paypal user an exclusive shipping fee.
Giving a discount to one form of payment VS charging an additional fee to another form to payment gets you the same result.
If you don't think you're violating any of the ebay's rules, then feel free to list the auction. Just note that your idea isn't anything new. If sure a policy is a allowed, I'm sure a few thousand ebay sellers would have already implemented it in their listing ages ago.

If im not mistaken shipping isn't considered a fee. Shipping is Shipping. A fee would be some extraneous amount tacked on. I don't know though. Anyone else know anything about this?
 
You would have to put the shipping fee in and then say in your auction if you pay by money order shipping is free. You cant put free shipping and say in your auction if paying by paypal please add $5 for shipping.

I'd ask about this specific situation before doing it though OP as they may consider offering free shipping as different than taking a % out of the final price. Still from that answer it sounds like it would be fine, as long as you do it how m0dem suggests. I would have thought it would be a violation, myself.
 
Yeah, I remember when it was first posted, I was really surprised, too. I mean, it's basically the same thing as raising prices for people who use a certain payment method (which is a no-no). *shrug*
