I been through a few 360's since launch. Each time I had the 2 year warranty at Best Buy and they would simply replace the console. Today I went in because my 360 RROD. The lady told me they send them out to get repaired now. Can anyone confirm this is something they do now? The last time I had a system replaced was last October but she said they have been doing this for a while.
no clue, i have the 2 year warranty too... i hope that isn't the case...
I'm not sure if it was just that store or if this is a company thing now.

They replaced their 2 year Product Replacement Plan with the Best Buy Geek Squad Black Tie Service Plan a while ago, probably due in large part to so many people using the replacement plans to simply swap out for a newer model of the item on the plan.

So now you have to wait until they attempt to repair your item three times(I think)before they finally tell you that they'll allow you to just get a gift card or swap out for the same item.

This is yet another reason why I stopped buying game systems from BB.

I can see why they did it, but that's a bunch of crap. If you have RROD you can just get a refurb from MS. Part of the appeal of the 2 year plan was being able to get a brand new if it broke.

But I can definately see the reason for switching to what they did.

Yeah. I always made sure I remembered when my two year replacement plan was about to lapse and I'd go in within the last week and say my item didn't work right and wanted a replacement.

Of course, I picked up the two year plan on an original Xbox back in 2005 and they stopped manufacturing them about 2-4 months later. So by the time the end of the two years came around they didn't have any new systems to swap them out for, so I ended up getting a full $150 on a gift card.

Really because they swapped out my system in October with no problems.

Thanks for all the answers though. Looks like I will not be buying anymore systems at Best Buy.

You might've had one of the old replacement warranties then, since otherwise they would've told you they had to ship it out for repairs.

How long can u get a warranty at Wal Mart or Target.

Im buyin a new ps3/360 and want the longest warranty I can get.
Does wal mart swap them for new ones right there or ship them out

How Best Buy handles the warranty depends on the type of warranty it is.

If it's a Black Tie Protection Plan, it's a repair plan and the console is repaired, plus the warranty continues until the warranty expires. If it's a Product Replacement Plan, it's a single-use plan that replaces the item or provides a gift card for the value of the item + tax within the timeframe of the plan. Regardless of how much time is left on the plan, it's used up with the single replacement.

They changed to the Black Tie plan back in 2008 or 2009, if I remember right.

I noticed this about maybe a year ago also when I replaced my mp3 player and I bought the new plan not realizing it was different... wont be purchasing one again but the old one was good while at lasted. I think I paid $100 years ago including the plan and this was my third time around "upgrading" each time to a better and cheaper one, the previous one paying for the new one after they give the gift card and each time there was still money left over on the card. :)
