This may be a stupid question, and may have been asked already but the search function is broken (or at least it's not working for me).

My friend just got an Xbox 360 and Live Gold, and I've been hearing rumors that you can use your Gamertag on another Xbox 360, download all the stuff you've previously bought, delete your Gamertag, and then that person can play all your downloaded content. Even on their Gamertag, when it was your Gamertag you bought them on. Is this true?

I've Googled it, and some people have said they've had issues where when they use Recover Gamertag, it places some kind of protection on their game saves and corrupts them. Then again, I've heard of it working fine for other people. It just seems like there should be a catch somewhere, I know MS wouldn't just let you take your Gamertag to all your friends' houses and download a hundred dollars worth of XBLA content for free.

You can do something like that with the PS3 since Sony gives you 5 downloads of their Playstation Store games, but you can't do that with your 360 XBLA games.

I love this "feature".

The long and short of it is like this. You save your profile to a memory card and bring it to a friends house. Load up your profile and buy a game. When you take your profile back to your house you can redownload the game and play. Meanwhile your friend still has the game to play at his house.

The plus side for you is having the game linked to your gamertag because you'll be able to download it if your XBOX breaks. Your friend will be screwed if his HD should ever crap out on him.

On the other hand if your internet connection goes down while you are playing you can get booted out of the game and be in demo mode, if you are not on the xbox you originally bought it on. Which really sucks if you want to upgrade to a new box.

What happens if you swap your actual hard drive into a different box? I tried this once, but it only let me access the demo versions. However that particular xbox had no online connection... if it had an online connection, would it have "verified" my games and let me play them?

ahaaa... so I could just bring my HD over a friend's house (assuming his xbox is online) and play the games there? Then bring the HD back home and resume playing on my xbox with no problem? Will this prompt me for account recovery and all that stuff? (And I'm not talking about transferring the games to my friend's 360 or anything like that, I'm just talking about bringing the games over and playing).
