QUESTION. Are sports titles the dumbest game to 'invest' in?

I agree that as far as resale value goes, sports games suck.
But I for one, am a big sports fan, so I will spend my money for each years new games for the sports that I like to follow, baseball, basketball, football, hockey and college sports. Is it a "smart investment", no probably not. Do i get enjoyment out of each years games, hell yeah I do.
Some people may think I am retarded for this, but hey I think people who pay $50 for RPG are retarded. Nothing personal, just not my style of games.

JUst curious, but of all the things you hate, where do sports games rate?

I see your point as well punq, but you can play different "levels" in sports games. Just this year the Phillies opened a new stadium. Brand new level to play in, lol. :twisted:

while that sure is nice for sports fans, and phillies fans in particular, its still the same feild
 
Personally, Madden and NCAA football are the main reasons I even got my PS2. I agree that the games may not change that much from year to year, but some of the changes are the ones that you wanted the year before, so why not buy it, if that's what you're gonna be playing anyway. I don't sell or trade my games back in, so the resale value doesn't mean anything to me. I buy what I enjoy playing.

Actually it's not. The play mechanics are different in the new field, from dimensions of the field to height of the fence, to the "angle" out in centerfield. Yes, it's still baseball, but both play on both sides of the ball chages vastly from the vet to citizen's bank ballpark.

Just tossing my two cents in.

Sports games now have crossed the point of no return. Madden 2003 -> Madden 2004 -> Madden 2005 is definitly minting money and imo not worth it (unless you really wanted online play in '04).

However, sports games were not like this before. For example, Tecmo Bowl -> Super Tecmo Bowl was revolutionary! NHL Hockey and the first couple concotions were simply awesome. MLB, Baseball Stars, and Baseball Simulation 2000 were fun as hell.

Since those days and games I have not really played any sports games. I attempted to try Madden 2004. Long story short there are too many bleepin buttons. To many things to remember. It just is not fun unless you are hardcore into football and know all the rules and plays. NHL sucked after about NHL '96, Tecmo Bowl lost my respect after doing II and III milking my money, and Baseball stars is all but a lost memory.

Those were the days, sigh.

Of course these are just my opinions. Surely others feel somewhat the same?
 
I think the people that don't like them just aren't that great at them. They take out their inabilities to play by complaining about them. As dumb as they may seem, like b3bop said, the controls are complicated, therefore making them a little harder to just pick up and play like your run-of-the-mill action/adventure games.
 
I'll buy a football or hockey game every 3 or 4 years. Usually one per console and later on in the console's life so it's taking advantage of the system's power. No reason to keep buying the same thing over and over.

i understand that, but not knowing much about sports like i do, it means nothing, i know baseball stadiums are diffrent dimensions, but if i were a betting man, id say there was already one in the game was was pretty close to that new stadium :wink:
