Question for anyone with an internal PS3 HDD larger than 500GB

CAGiversary!
I have encountered a strange issue while using the recovery console with my newly bought 1 TB internal PS3 hard drive and from my googling, it seems that issue only happens to people who have large drives in their PS3 (a link suggested 500GB+). The issue revolves around the option #3 in the recovery console "restore file system". Instead of normally fixing the hard drive file system, it seems that on some drives it always forces a reformat, no matter how freshly formatted the drive was or its condition.

How many users here have internal HDDs larger than 500GB? I could really use some help in solving this...

But I am not referring to a data backup/restore operation or a data transfer. The issue I'm talking about happens when you go into the recovery menu (boot up the system while holding power button, many youtube videos show how to access that menu) and pick option #3 "restore file system". Normally this just fixes the OS files, but on some drives (it seems to affect the larger drives) it automatically fails that operation and forces a format (even when you do it on a freshly formatted drive).
