I'm thinking of buying 1, 2, xtreme on ebay. Hopefully I get all of them less than $60. I just don't see myself putting $100 on suikoden 2 which I almost did, but got outbid. I'm just gonna use it on something else like Grandia. Is the series worth it? Should I play them in order?

What the difference between DC Grandia II and PS2 Grandia? It seem that DC is lil bit more $ than PS2.

thanks

The DC version is better. Pure bliss packed into a GD-ROM. Definitely try and pick up the DC version. The PS2 version was just badly ported/rushed.

Grandia 1 is honestly one of my all time favorite games. It's a masterpiece.

As for Grandia 2...I agree with Rig, get it for the Dreamcast if possible. It's a better version and it comes with a soundtrack sampler. You can get a DC for so cheap now, it's worth it.

Grandia Xtreme kinda stunk. Definitely didn't live up to the series name. It isn't horrible, but nowhere near G1 or 2.

Bottom line....get them.

Grandia 1 was pretty good. It suffered some becasue it was ported to Playstation after being developed for the Saturn. Although I don't think lives up to its reputation as a FFVII killer (that's how it was hyped in Japan), it has one of the most fun battle systems rpgs have ever seen (that goes for the whole series).
1 and 2 have good character development. Get 2 for DC so you don't have to put up w/ ported crappiness, and get the soundtrack (#6 is the best-battle theme).
Can't speak for Xtreme yet, as it's still on my shelf. While the first two were solid, Xtreme seems to be sub-par--a Grandia with only dungeons and battles, no real story.

I played Grandia 2 (PS2) but I didn't enjoy it. I traded it in a while back but I recently picked it up again just so that I have it in my collection. The PS2 version had serious slow down. The models were simple, very geometric and the textures were very lame - comparable to DMC 2 "quality". Battles are the best part but even that became boring and since you can see where the enemies are, you can just avoid them completely.

Grandia 1, like some others have already said, is nothing short of awesome. I wasn't crazy about the story, but the battles and music more than make up for it. Same goes for Grandia 2, but on a lesser scale. I don't have any major issues with the port, though.

Oh, and, you might wanna check Coconuts (if there are any still left by you) for new copies of Grandia. The one I go to had about 3 brand new copies for 10 bucks a couple months ago... a lot better deal than the 25 I paid at GS. :?

See, I loved Grandia 1's story. It's a great story of adventure and by the end of the game, you feel like "home" is a million miles away. That sense of scale is what impressed me and drew me in. It's classic RPG/fantasy story telling without getting too cliche.

Grandia II for DC is one of my favorite games ever.

Xtreme is ok, nothing special.

Grandia 1 is great, but I'm still trying to buy a copy for myself. Haven't had any luck.

First thing one has to mention when talking about the Grandia series is the battle system. It is the one of the best ATB systems out there. You should at least give one of the games a try just for the battle system.

Grandia I is a very good RPG. Its is also a longer game. I remember taking around 50 hours to beat it, if not more. The story is nice in that its fairly light-hearted and appealing.

I felt as if Grandia 2 is the best of the series. The story, while not original, is very well presented. There are very few characters in the game, which is a positive because each character is developed very well. The only issue I have is that there are virutally no sidequests.

Granida Xtreme is very medicore. It isn't a RPG as much as it is a dungeon crawler. There is no real story, no character development, horrible cutscenes and crappy characters in general. That being said, if you really likethe battle system, this is a game you will play for a few hours here and there. There is lot of leveling up to do, whether it be magic eggs, spells, skills or just leveling.

I would pick up Grandia and Grandia 2 first, and get the DC versionfor Grandia 2. The PS2 port is fairly poor. If you really like the battle system, then try Grandia Xtreme. Some people like it, some people don't; but the battle system is still excellent.

That is exactly what I loved about the game. There have been RPGs with better scripts, gameplay, graphics, etc., but no other RPG has ever made me rejoice with the thrill of adventure the way that game did.

See that's the totallly ironic thing...grandia xtreme had a good number of issues but really the battle system was the best out of all 3 IMO.
