Hi,
I was hoping someone could help me because my local best buy isn't being very helpful.
On Sunday afternoon I purchased a Playstation 3 and a few cheap games from Best Buy. I had seven (7) Best Buy Gift Cards, all of which I had gotten over the past 1-2 months and have receipts for.
When I got to the register the lady asked if I could start scratching the protective strip of the gift cards because she needed the pin visible to process them. While I was doing that she was totaling my order.
I handed her all seven gift cards. I knew the value of six of them. They were:
A: = $50
B: = $50
C: = $50
D: = $50
E: = $20
F: = $20
G: = Mystery amount
I was in a rush (my fault for not checking) because of the super bowl so I didn't think to look at the receipt before leaving. I asked her before paying the remainder on my credit card if all seven applied and she said yes.
When I looked at my receipt later that night I noticed only 6 gift cards were applied and they were in the amounts of $50, $50, $50, $20, $20 and $40.
This means that the mystery gift card had a value of $40. I was able to look at the receipt for that purchase and cross reference it with my other receipts from the past 1-2 months (I keep all my receipts) and found the receipt for the gift card that wasn't applied.
The gift card that wasn't applied was actually one that I got from purchasing an Xbox 360 the day before on Saturday February 2nd, 2013.
I found that receipt and saw the line that mentions the activation of the $50 gift card and references the last four numbers.
Today, a day after the above purchase and two days after I bought the Xbox 360 with the missing $50 Gift Card, I went back to the same Best Buy and spoke with someone from Customer Service.
I told them I gave the cashier 7 gift card and only 6 were applied. I told them I had the receipt of the purchase in which I got the gift card that did NOT apply and asked if they could cancel/reissue it.
Unfortunately, as I feared, I was told that Gift Cards are treated like cash and if they are lost/stolen there is nothing Best Buy can do. The girl also said that she can't look up the gift card using the receipt I gave her because if she scans it the receipt will only show the last four numbers of the gift card.
I don't want to make a big deal out of this but $50 is $50. Is there anything I can do? I know I gave that gift card to a cashier and they forgot (I'll give them the benefit of the doubt) to apply it to my order. I'm very organized and have little "Coupon Holders" with sections for each retail store to hold gift cards, coupons, membership cards, etc. (Don't make fun
)
I should have gone back on Sunday once I realized the error but the store closes early (7PM I think) and I had already started my evening (Super Bowl Party).
Anyways I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to look up the GC information from the receipt? Or if 1-800 Best Buy would be helpful?
Thanks for taking the time to respond
