Questions About Wii/Wireless USB Connector

Hey gang!
So, there's a local store that has the official Nintendo Wireless USB Connector ("Dongle"), and I have a couple of questions regarding this product:

1. Does the Wii get and maintain a decent connection through the dongle?
2. My PC and Wii are in two different rooms, but the rooms are right next to each other. Would the Wii have a problem connecting to the dongle through a wall? I'd say that the WII and PC were less than 15 feet from each other (through the wall).

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million in advance!

Honestly, the connections it would create for me were kinda finicky. Getting the connection was easy, keeping it was hard. And definitely does work through walls. It's just a regular wifi adapter with their name on it and kinda crappy software.

It'd be easier to just get a little cheap compatible router, just in case you have any other wireless devices.
Mine got ridiculously hot too. Never burned out, though. You'd think Nintendo would've noticed that.
I think the doingle is one of the only game items I actually got angry at in a physical way. I was steaming whenever it disconnected. EVERY time I tried to do something.... on and off, then on and off. And finally one day it was off for good.

When i took it out the thing was super hot and dead. Then I put it on the floor and rolled over it with my chair I was so angry. I'm usually not like that.

:hot::bomb:

And those things aren't cheap for their limited functionality. >.< ....Wait, don't those have warranties also? Nintendo maybe sliding in quality, but their CS and warranties are great.

The best answer is just get a wireless router, like a WRT54G from Linksys, and configure as needed. The DS can connect to it as well, you can run a hard-line ethernet cord if you want, and the router's expended functionality makes it more than worth it.

The USB adapter was a nice idea, but Nintendo must not have thought to much about it. It couldn't be used with certain encryption standards, couldn't be used by Apples/Macs, and it seemed like a 50/50 chance that it worked very well or very poorly. Word is that they've been discontinued, which is somewhat evident by all the clearances at various B&M stores.

Just get a router. It's the smartest, most-CAG thing to do.

I'd recommend this as well... routers can be had for pretty cheap these days, probably $10-20 more than the price of the wi-fi connector but it's well worth it.

I never used it but I heard that it doesn't have good range. So being in different rooms might not work. Again, I cannot confirm this myself.

I have one and have used it effectively on occasion for both Virtual Console purchases and online DS gaming.

Then one day it started BSODing my computer every time I connected it. A cheap wireless router would have been a much better purchase. If you have the technical know-how to hook up a wireless router and secure it, go with that.
