I need to exchange my 360 for a new one tommorrow because every 10 minutes my game stops and says that "the disc cannot be read".

So I was wondering, am I going to be able to continue using the profile that I'm using now on my new 360? I really don't want to lose my profile. I just have a bad feeling that my xbox is going to tell me that "that profile is already in use" or something like that.

I'm going to ask if I can just keep the harddrive that I have now and let them keep the new one. But I doubt they will let me do that. I need an answer quick! I'm leaving in the morning!

Where are you exchanging?

If it is a GS/EB, then you should have no problem exchanging just the unit. We would do the same thing when people would just bring in there PS2 or Xbox without the controller. Just open the package and give them the harddrive out of there. Then go home and test it, because if the hd is part of the problem, the manager could trade you the new one for the broken one before the defect is entered.

As fo your account, you can perform a recovery on it in the xbox startup. IF there are any problems, you can work with MS to authenicate your account and they will ban the system id that is already using it.

Well that's good. I was really worried.

I'm going to be exchanging at Best Buy, which is why I'm pretty sure I won't be able to keep my harddrive.

Honestly, you might be able to, but you have to play the odds. Find a Geeksquad member (since the G-squad and service counter are usually connected) and talk to them. Tell them that you have had the system and that you reported the defect to Microsoft. Microsoft ran a remote diagnostic tool and discovered that the laser's motor is not responding correctly to commands. Since, you had the warranty or what not, you figured you would get it replaced but you would like to keep your progress from the arcade games (since they do not use the laser, then they would not be affected) The only way to do this, is to keep the removable harddrive, any G-squad employee should be able to do that and if the manager asks, they can more then justify it.

I was part of the original G-Squad roll out for the East Coast. If you can get a member who is a gamer, they will understand and help you out.

How will I be able to talk to a geek squad member in the return section?

If I do get to talk to one, do I really need to explain all that Microsoft stuff? I'm never gunna remember all that. Besides, I never talked to Microsoft.

A) They do not know you have not talked to MS

B) Assuming procedure has not changed, they will have to test it anyway to confirm a defect before the replacement. So you might as well get them on your side.

C) I just said that because it is probably what I would say to get the desired result. You just have to convince them that the problem is a mechanical issue with the drive and not with the drive, or they have to replace the full unit.

does it only do this during games on a disc or does do it with arcade games or demos that are loaded on the 360?

Well, so far it's only done it with the disc. (Dead Rising, I only have one game)

I'm exchanging the disc tommorrow too.
because it might be just the disc
Well I have no way of knowing. If I had another game I would be able to tell. Besides, I might as well get a brand new console.

If they don't let me keep the harddrive then I won't trade it in unless I know it's the console.
