do I have to go inside of mcdonalds to play , or can I just order my food and sit in my car in mcdonald's parking lot?

many cafes with wifi allow you to sit outside and connect, it just depends on the strength of the hotspot

If I get my copy tomorrow at Lunch, I'll test the signal outside a local MC. I won't eat there food, but i'll leech off their WIfI

That's also what I had in mind..

I parked outside MCd's today at lunch.

Had full 3 bars of reception... no lag worldwide races..

Cant wait till about a week from now when its easier to race a few on these boards..

So we have confirmation -- you don't have to actually go into Mickey D's to take advantage of the wi-fi! Ain't life grand? :D

Thanks, Snake!

I don't know, there's something sad about the image of a guy parked outside McDonald's playing his DS in his car. lol

Often a cheap ass gamer and a creapy ass gamer are one and the same. :)

Didn't they have Mariokart happy meal toys at one point?

I'm still confused about the wifi. I understand that McDonalds is offering WiFi connection but could I play over any wireless network? For example, at my college a couple of the buildings have wireless networks, so would I be able to connect in those buildings? Same goes for my house. I have a wireless router for my laptop, so could I connect through that or would I have to get the special cable? Thanks for any help.

Nintendowifi.com does have a list of "recommended" routers with ratings, presumably that they've tested on already. You can find the list here:

http://nintendowifi.com/customersupport/supportedRouters.do

If your router is not on there, it just means they don't have a compatibility rating for it, not that it won't work.

I got another quick question, will Nintendo Wi-Fi Connector be available other than the nintendo store website? And if so will it be cheaper? Thanks

If your talking about the Nintendo Wifi dongle then no, it will only be available on the Nintendo site. I imagine they will start popping up on Ebay after a while but they will probably be about the same price.

I don't know why they would only sell it through their website. Maybe they want to test the waters first and see how many people are interested? Wireless routers aren't to expensive nowadays if your willing to take the time to set it up.

Is there a website that has a list of all the McDonalds with Wi-Fi?
Edit: Nevermind, I just found a search on the Nintendowifi site.

they're planning on releasing it along with Metroid I think..

You shouldn't have any difficulty accessing the Wi-Fi connection outside of McDonald's. I mean, I can still connect to my cheap ass D-Link router from about 900 ft. away (And the signal has to go through several big apartment buildings.) :D

I'd have to agree with you there, but that guy is going to be me.
I cant help myself, I'd rather be comfy in my car then inside the stinking McDonalds (no offense to McDonald's lovers)

Just curious... I went to all three McD's in my town (all three are listed as contributing hotspots for the DS WiFi), and I couldn't gain access. It said the spot was locked and I need a WED (or something) password to access. Any pointers?

Ask?

Maybe they have a password/code that you get if you actually go into the store (rather then stealing the signal outside)? I havn't tried my McD yet...maybe this week.

And I'll be parked right next to you... in spirit, at least. :)

It didnt work for me ether today. And I'm 100% certain that McDonald's was a hotspot.

Am I supposed to mess with those Wi-Fi settings beforehand, because I didn't

I will try again today. My sat was having problems yesterday at home so it may have been the weather here.

I went right to MCds and started WFC and it worked... since then I tried on a few other hot spots so when i went back i had to choose settings and let it scan for one... It found it but couldnt get online...

Again it has worked for me but yesterday it didnt.

My supposedly incompatible Netgear router is working out just fine, so I'm happy gaming at home, but I am ever so curious to see if my local McDonald's and my DS are compatible. I was pee my pants if I ever saw anyone else gaming tho. A new strange world, and Nintendo is all over it.

A friend of my was leeching off of our school's WiFi. The media center was locked, so he stood in the corner outside the room. :).

tried the Mcdonalds Wi-Fi tonight for the first time. in my car it would detect a Wi-Fi spot and gave me some phone number to call.

once inside, setting up was easy, and I had two unlocked access points to choose from. :) it was pretty awesome playing against 3 of my close friends, and I now realize I wasn't able to play with people on my friends list because something is up with my router (it lets me play everyone but friends).
