I have no doubts that this will be an excellent racing game. Lets hope the Online is a little better than dirt. Make that A LOT better than Dirt

Im a street racing fan. Well now there's this game thats coming out this year and its called GRID by codemasters (dont know if its an acronym or whatever)
Anyway it look really good and promising. Unlike some or most of the racing games out there, this game only have cars that were meant or designed for racing and it the cars are capable of crashing themselves and inflicting damage as well while looking extra sexy doing it (Im a car fan). The graphics is also amazing or it seems that way.

Anyway, Im PRETTY sure Ill be getting this game.

So with that said, I leave you with trailer

Anyone here a racing (street mostly) fan like myself?

Wow, I'd never heard of this, but it looks really cool, especially the damage system.

I'm not getting too hyped, though, because.. I mean, come on, it's Codemasters. Turning Point.. Jericho..

Though they also did Dirt, and Dirt was pretty good. I'll give this one a rent.

Yeah I forgot to mention their damage system as well as its AI (can actually make mistakes)
GRID is an acronym. It stands for Gee, Really? Instead of Dirt 2?

I'll probably buy it, but I'd rather have some more offroad racing instead.
lol :D

And I like offroad racing as well. Motorstorm is really fun (PS3) and Motorstorm 2 is coming out as well (EGM mag)
Codemasters also did Pro Race Driver which was a hell of a technical racer. This should be good.
this is the next entry in the Pro Race series

I downloaded their trailer on live a while ago and really liked where they were heading. Then after seeing Xplay's hands on I'm pumped up. I'm up for PGR racers, I yawn playing Forza, sorry just doesn't excite me. I loved Dirt, don't really like the time competition thing but they're prob have online for this one since its the next TOCA.

Doesnt this guy remind you of the villain in Gone for 60 Seconds!? lol "ceeaaars"

I really liked ToCA 3 so it saddens me that they are going away from the technical side of ToCA 3 and going more of the route of Need for Speed. Don't get me wrong, the game looks and sounds awesome, but i was looking forward to ToCA 4 :(

Wow this game shows a lot of promise. I am really enjoying the demo. The damage and AI were great. GOING BACK IN TIME when you mess up is fucking awesome. The replays are cool to mess with as well.

The small details are nice as well, like when the tire squeals or when you feel this heavy car smash into the ground after you got some air.

Incredible demo. As a racing game fan, I think this could quite possibly be a day one buy for me.

I figured it would be arcadey in feel, so I was expecting that the whole way. But it looks amazing, plays great, the rewind deal when you screw up is a really nice option. I think we've all had those times in racing games where we went "fuck! I knew I should've (done this)" when in single player modes. Being able to go back and correct it without starting the whole race over totally works for me.

But seriously. If you love racing games, you owe it to yourself to download this demo. I'm really excited about the retail release already.

What?! Full Auto style!? #-o

Wow, after playing the demo this is a day one purchase for me...hopefully, fry's comes thru with a release-day sale for this one. :)

Yea sounds like Full Auto feature. From the preview I saw on G4 a while ago they wanted it to be realistic as in Forza but arcade fun driving like NFS or DiRT. Yea Codemasters are a good company so I'm willing to attempt a buy on release for this one and it sounds like the gameplay backs up the sick trailers we've seen. Hopefully this is on the next OXM disc.

I generally like racing games but I wasn't a fan of this at all, the crash modelling was very annoying for one thing. Someone hit me on the first corner, apparently it was only "minor damage" but from then on the car kept pulling to the right, not exactly driveable.

I'll give this demo some more time tonight cos I really wanted to like it. I guess this is a reboot of the Toca series in the same way Dirt was a reboot of the Colin McRae Rally series, I was never a huge fan of Toca so this might not be for me.

I played the demo a little last night. I think it's a solid game with great presentation and a lot of neat "bells and whistles", but it's not for me. I prefer arcade racers over more realistic fare myself.
it looks awesome/realistic, but plays like PGR. not for me at all.
That's what they said, not nfs, PGR. I love the PGR games so this is good news to me. He said something like "racing is supposed to be fun" which would also get me excited because Forza 1&2 make me yawn when I play them. I'm more of an arcade racer though.;)

I just sat down with this and love it. I'm more of an arcade racer fan too. I don't think I'll pick it up on release but it looks like its going on my Gamefly Q.

I'll stick with PGR4, but if this ends up being on Target clearance for $15 like PGR4 was, then you can count me in.

This game is fantastic. Seeing 20 cars on the track takes me back to the Dreamcast days of Test Drive: LE mans.

It's a great balance between arcade and sim. I have yet to get DIRT since I can't find a good deal on it. But once I do I'll play that, and once I finish with that I'm sure I could find a deal on GRID. Almost no games are day 1 purchase for me, but I will pick this up once I find a deal on it.

I hope there they offer DLC cars and tracks.

Tried the demo last night...boy was I surprised. I was expecting a Forza 2/PGR type game, its pretty arcadey...I loved it. Not sure I'd buy on release date but its something I'm definitely I'm looking forward to.

After playing the demo, I do indeed dig the "re-play" feature where you can rewind and start again. It's fun. As others said, I wouldn't get it for $60, but if I ran across it for under $30, I would have a fairly hard time resisting.

Is there a button while driving to initiate the replay fucntion? I could only do it by pausing the game by pressing start.

Really enjoyed it.
So that's what the replay thing is for? I totally misunderstood that then. I just restarted the race after I totaled my car.
Yeah its very cool. Say you take one corner really bad you can rewind. The easier the difficulty the more rewinds you get. I know there has to be a way to initiate it in game. I couldn't find the right face button or correct combo though. Doing it through the menu totally takes me out of the game. Couldn't find a button map in the options.

That's odd. I watched the video they had on the g4 site and the guy was drfting around a corner and crashed. The game paused and the announcer told him what he could do with three options. One of them being you can replay that last corner. From what I've seen it looks like a polished racer.

Some info on the game: http://www.oxmonline.com/article/previews/g-l/grid

Edit: Just got my July OXM today and they gave GRID a 9 out of 10, also have the 24 hour race, the Le Mans Race, in the game but you can change it to 12 minutes, 24 minutes or a couple of hours. It is the next iteration of TOCA and Pro Race Driver as DiRT was Colin McRae series.

Short summary
+Fantastic graphics, AI, and handling
+Creative, absorbing career
-Lousy voices; multiplayer could be deeper
?Will anyone ever find a smart solution to the first
turn carnage in racing games?

I"m stoked, also works well with the wheel!

Got my Gamestop newsletter, GRID Ships today?! Confirmed on gamerankings.com. Anyone picking it up on day 1? I like the review scores and I loved DiRT but unfortunately I'm flat broke atm.
