Racing Game suggestions

I recently purchased a PS3 and my fiance wants something to play as well. She likes Racing games, mostly arcade style racers. She really liked Midnight Club for PS2 back in the day. I was wondering what suggestions/games would be good for her on the PS3 platform? I read that midnight Club LA was a hard game, and Im scared she would be turned off. I also read Burnout Paradise is a good game. Any suggestions?

Dirt 2 is fun and can be found for cheap. Same with Burnout Paradise. For newer ones, Split/Second is pretty good in the limited time I've had with it so far.

Blur - the demo I've played was awesome, Mario Kart in high-def. Lots of unlockables and stuff to keep you going too.

Split Second demo was great too, but I've heard that it might get old fast.. no lasting appeal.

The Motorstorm games were good, looked great but I didn't feel much of a need to keep playing

Also have my eye on ModNation Racers but haven't read too many previews or reviews of it.

Dirt 2 and Burnout Paradise would be solid choices too, and much cheaper than the new releases.

Burnout Paradise. I've played this game twice I've enjoyed it so much. The demo is nothing at all as to how much fun this game is. There just so much choice in it it your play time is never the same. It does not have split screen co-op. Just watch some video's especially of the DLC. You'll get $20 worth of fun out of it easily. I suggest buying it on the PSN and just having it on your hard drive. Not a hard game to play at all.

I hated motorstorm it was too hard. Mortorstorm two was better but just okay.

Blur- Played the beta. Not impressed

Mod Nation Racers- Played the. Beta not impressed.

Try some demo's out of the rest.

try demos, i think dirt2 would be too hard (it's not epic sim, but it's not arcade either, & it's offroad sliding)

i tried modnation demo yesterday... a little too arcady for me
splitsecond has a demo
burnoutparadise is good
both motorstorms are easy to control compared to dirt
nascar08 is loose, nascar09 is tight (& hard/realistic)
blur has no demo yet?
midnightclub shouldnt be too hard.. i could try it out in a race to see for you (i have it)

are you into racing yourself?

Ya you are sort of right on Dirt 2 I suppose. It's definitely not as arcady as some others. It is less sim though than a Forza or GT game.

Don't bother with Midnight Club LA, that game was painfully terrible. Easily the worst game I've played since Yaris. Motorstorm 1 isn't bad, but there's no incentive to progress through the game and it's surprisingly hard; I ended up loosing interest like six races in. Haven't played the newer Motorstorm yet. Pretty much anything else in this thread would be a good option though.

Personally, Im not a huge racing fan. I enjoy doing a race here or there. My fiance used to play alot of racers on the PS3. She doesn't like ultra hard games, but likes to customize her car, and race around cities and stuff. We might go look in the used games section at Best Buy today. Maybe something will jump out there. Lots of good info guys! Thanks!

Burnout Paradise is probably the easiest and most fun game of the bunch. I got the platinum trophy and didn't even work for it, it's that much fun, and so much to do, lotsa DLC (recommend you download Big Surf Island)

Midnight Club LA is like a poor man's version of Burnout Paradise, with no awesome crashing, but you can customize your cars a whole lot, which is probably the only arcade racer to do that. Definitely not hard though, there are difficulty settings, too. They did a pretty good job representing LA, and if you liked the previous ones, can't really go wrong here.

There are games halfway between arcade and simulation. GRID is probably the best one. You can start with racing contracts right away, basically driving for someone's team in the game, meaning you get to drive awesome cars from the get-go. I thought that was pretty cool that the first race in the game is in a fully-tuned Viper (the one on the cover).

If you like offroad racing, like others said, Dirt 2 is simply amazing, although they overdid it on the "You're a cool dude racing with other cool dudes" aspect, it's lame after a few hours. Very polished game though. Another good one is MotorStorm, which is probably the hardest game for me, but it is pretty awesome to drive those big trucks and boost your way though jungles and mountains.

If you like futuristic racers, Wipeout HD is probably one of the best PSN games out there, let alone a good racer. It doesn't have nice cars, but the thrill of racing at several hundred miles an hour is pretty hard to get from other games!

I would avoid the Need for Speed games (especially Undercover, Pro Street), this series has become lamer with time, I rented both and hated them: yuck.

nfs shift is great though, but hard

also i find wipeout to be very slow.. & clunky.. speaking of hovering ships, check the fatal inertia ex demo if you like it
