Radiant Historia - Stocke the Spy travels the timelines - Out Now!
Damn. All these positive impressions make me think I'll have to get this game. Didn't even know about it until an email from Atlus a few days ago. Still playing DQ9 and haven't started DQ6. Ugh.
I have to take breaks between these big RPGs. I love them, but I need other filler between to take the edge off level-grinding and, usually, random battles.

Thankfully this game doesn't have random battles. They're initiated by running into enemies on the battlefield/maps. However some enemies are difficult to avoid/stun.

The DS is my go-to RPG system but I balance it out with consoles. I agree, though, I'm not eager to dive into DQ6 or Radiant Historia, but sometimes it's just a matter of starting the game and then I'm hooked.

Yeah I'm planning to pick this up so I have something to play while the wife plays the big consoles, she just got into the first Dragon Age and we already have DA2 pre-ordered.

My local Play n trade still doesn't have copies in, but since I don't support gamestop, and want to give them my business primarily (the play n trade) instead of best buy still waiting on it.

got it yesterday put around 2 1/2 hours into it just to get to chapter 1........

one thing i wonder is

your playing and your entire party is level 10... a split comes up ...

you take path A and get your party up to level 15 and then hit a dead end and have to jump back to
PATH B would the entire party be level 15 or just you

I think it will just be me and the rest of the party will be back at level 10.... if that is the case this game had to be a #$#$#$#$ to program :)
The game explains it to you. Do you not read game text either like when other people ask you to put stuff in spoilers?
:applause:

Grr, this is in my Amazon Goldbox for $28.54. I really want to get it, but I can't do it since I tried to put off any new purchases for a while.

It looks really great though, which makes it even tougher.

A quick tip for anyone playing the game. The start button skips cutscenes. It'll be inevitably useful as you're always going through cutscenes you've been through before and the fast forward text button (X) isn't always fast enough.

Oh god, thanks for that tip, sometimes pounding the (X) button was driving me crazy!

Enjoying this a lot as I finally managed to
save the explosives merchant in the spy storyline so I could go back to the original Rosch Brigade storyline that I picked first. Now I have a way to actually make use of those barrels that are all around the game.

Man, I'm thinking "Chapter 4! That didn't take long." and then I look at my time played on my next save and it's 14 hours. I can't believe I've sunk so much time in to this so quickly.

Anybody remember where at what point in time and place
Cedric
is? I can't seem to remember nor find him for the life of me and his side quest has been nagging at me for a while.

EDIT: Nevermind, I can't believe I missed them every time I was in the area. ~_~

Got this game in the mail today, cant wait to play. :) Is there any VA in this game? How many different ending are there?

I have a 14 hour (one way) flight to Ireland coming up in a couple weeks and am thinking of picking this up. I think this would hold my attention longer than Pokemon Black and so far the reviews sound great. Was hoping to find it used at GameStop but alas, I don't foresee that happening in the next two weeks.

Initial impressions after 2 hours:

Man, NeoGAF was not kidding on the import thread when they said this game has a ton of dialogue. I think I've gotten into about a half dozen fights total thus far. I don't really like political intrigue stories so I am getting pretty restless and want to get to the meat of the gameplay at this point.

:headache:

SH: Ch.2
High Alert

Palace security is ironclad. Stocke has to use some kind of special skill to get through.

Anybody make it past this point. How/where/when do you acquire the "special skill?"

Generally, if you're at a dead-end in one history, the answer usually lies in continuing with the other history.

You will learn this skill as part of a story event after finishing the Sand Fortress/Gran Plain mission in the AH.

Oh...... my god, this game is sooooooooo boring, I've only completed the spy storyline, and I was doing my best to try not to fall asleep while playing, but there is TOO MUCH GODDAMN TEXT! I really want to like this game, but its doing its damndest to prevent that. I love the concept of the game, but jesus christ.

I agree, this game is text heavy, but it's handled well. There's not too many good political intrigue stories in JRPGs.

I like the battle system. It's a little simple, but it gets the job done.

Well if you don't like text, then you're going to want to stay away from Legend of Heroes VI: Trails in the Sky on the PSP later this month.

I like text, but it seems like the ratio of text / battles wandering around is pretty high.

Anybody else annoyed by the sandpaper clicking noises everytime you scroll text?

got it last thursday

first day playing it 2 1/2 hours (thur)
2nd day playing it hour (fri)
skipped 2 days (sat and sun)
next day playing it hour (mon)

skipped tuesday and weds

maybe start trying to play it again tonight

The text overload has gotten a little better after that first part, but it still is a little heavy, and I had no problem with the text in the first Legend of Heroes game we got over here (been playing through it). Also, this should've just been an anime, it would've been a damn good one.

That's one of my peeves with the game. Same with the footsteps.

I'm probably caught up in the game mechanic, which while not great does a fairly decent job at doing what it wants to accomplish. Though I wish it was a bit more complicated or had more time line branches to work through. Like where one of the two main branches would have a sub-branch that would lead to a bad ending but it would help accomplish something that you absolutely needed to get done for another timeline.

I'm at the end of the game but haven't had time to finish it up unfortunately. Keep having to finish putting time in for work at home and reboot servers, setup/fix backup jobs off hours which has been cutting in to my time this week.

The new trilogy coming out (which gained enough popularity to throw the series beyond Ys in Japan) is a lot more text heavy. We're talking like 70% text and 30% gameplay, which even XSeed mentions in a recent interview with RPG Gamer.

Though I guess if you skip a lot of bracer guild quests (which I'm not entirely sure is possible), it may reduce it to 60/40. All I can say for certain is that I did import the game but it was so incredibly text heavy that I could not finish the game. My weak point is reading japanese and this game was filled with too much stuff that I could not figure out without becoming frustrated.

This is probably a discussion for the PSP section though. I'll see if I can create a topic for the game when I get home since I haven't seen one and the game releases in a few weeks. Would do it now but I'm at work and won't have the time.

Legend of Heroes isn't nonstop text when I played the import. Plus there is voice acting.

That's right, there aren't too many good political intrigue stories in JRPGs, which is why I generally try to stay away. And this game right here is one of those games that doesn't have a good political intrigue story. At least the first 8 hours in.

The battle system is a little too simple and repetitive for me. That would be fine if I gave a shit about the story or characters (like, for example, Lunar, which has one of simplest battle systems ever but is one of my favorite games ever). But I don't. I don't really have much else to play right now so I'll keep giving it a chance but if it doesn't get better, this is going up on Amazon Marketplace/trade in as soon as I get Yakuza 4 in 2 weeks at the latest.

i was sort of hoping this game was totally different then what it is..

Say i want to play path 1 until i want jump to see what the other story line is

instead this game forces you to jump from path 1 to path 2 and back and forth.

like going in path 1 say you need to find these bombs in the fort but you can only find them if you have this special power you only get in path 2 so then you have to play path 2 to find that power then jump to path 1

sort of confusing trying to remember what the entire story is when your jumping around like this ...

still a fun game

ANYONE KNOW HOW MANY CHAPTERS

right now im like 7 hours into it..

not quite done with chapter 1 on the top path just starting chapter 2 on the bottom path

going to give it a break tonight and then picking up pokemon black tomorrow (sunday) and then getting phatom brave on the psp on tuesday

so looks like this is going to go on the back burner for some time....

what sort of sucks is i got dragon quest 6 and kingdom hearts recoded the day they came out STILL Sealed and have no clue when i will ever get to playing them...

in fact i have (they might been opened but forget where im at so going to have to start back at the star)

i have Dragon quest 4 sealed , dragon quest 5 only played an hour, dragon quest 6 sealed , dragon quest 9 sealed

nice thing is after pokemon and brave i dont think there is a single RPG game coming out on the DS or the psp until the fall

No clue how many chapters (I saw someone was on Chapter 4), so I'm just going by the nodes/events as progress. I've mapped like 15% of them as I start Chapter 2 in both histories, but I assume a good number of those will be optional/hidden.

I'm currently on Chapter 6 right now on one of the timelines and have completed 124/236. I'm still enjoying it so far, but I had to grind at a certain point.
I decided I just wasn't having any fun with this game anymore, so I put up on Amazon... and it sold in 2 hours.
price ?
price ?
I always thought Amazon wasn't worth bothering with all their fees unless you were a business. I still use feebay.

How much did it go for?

I don't even leave feedback on Amazon like I should.

I sold it for $32.99. Got it on Amazon when it was $29.99. So after fees and shit I just about broke even or maybe lost a dollar. Though the game was all paid for in gift cards/trade in credit anyway.

EDIT: Make that a loss of about $5. Oh well, $5 for a game I played for ~14 hours is not bad.

I'm on Chapter 2, about 10 hours in so far. I'm enjoying it enough to keep going, although I wish the time travel mechanic wasn't so black and white. Maybe it'll change to more shades of grey farther in but I've seen no indication. If it doesn't then I really don't get what the "replay value" would be, even though that was hyped up to some extent.

Well, I did like the game after a certain point, but I don't see myself getting back to this game anytime soon, so I think I may throw it up on goozex for an early trade credit.

There isn't much replay value unfortunately. It's black and white for the most part. Once you go through and find all the nodes in history and complete them, you've seen everything.
need some help with a few quests.
Anybody know how to complete the sand sword quest? And how do you get the blast core?
Sand Sword off the top of my head is obtained by the Alternate History after reaching Skalla. It's kindof hard to miss once you hit that point as the NPC stops you the moment you go into town. Just talk to him in the building afterwords.

Blast Core (I think this was what it was?) involves encountering Rosche in the Standard History when traveling to the main city in the desert with the princess, getting his arm and then taking his arm back to the first node of the game and having what's her name repair it. Then you can continue on the Alternate History timeline I think.

That's just roughly from memory. It may not be exact, but I think that's how it went.

I have to admit I'm not super stoked for this game as I was. They could have really had some potential for replay with the branching time travel plotline. The battles are a refreshing change of pace from fightfightfight like most RPGs are, at least.

I really enjoy it, but yeah, I'm probably gonna trade it in once I'm done. There is some tiny bit of non-linear play, but only from the standpoint of "do you want to continue on timeline A even though you'll eventually have to go back to timeline B, or do you want to go back to timeline B right now?

As it is, I wouldn't relish playing it from the beginning again having to do all the backtracking. But at least I learned you can use the Start button to skip everything.
I put mine up on feebay. After 10 hours, I just wasn't feeling it.

Same, except Goozex for me.
20 hours in so far. it's not as good as I thought it would be because you have to keep jumping in between timelines, I'm not even sure what the hell is going on in the story anymore. I'm glad i'm using a guide(the only one on gfaqs and I want the perfect ending!) or else I would forget what it is I'm supposed to do/go.
