Random deal: Princess Mononoke 6.98$ at FS

This is off-topic but I thought I would share. I saw newly opened boxes of DVDs at Futureshop as they came in. There was something that caught my eyes in there, Princess Mononoke DVD for 6.98$.

I already have that movie but would have bought otherwise. Fantastic movie for a great price.

I want to wait for the blu-ray, but apparently Disney doesn't own the rights to Mononoke anymore.

That's good news. Disney likes to withhold new formats of their back catalog to keep old stock selling and prices high.

Sadly, it may be years before we see a Mononoke Blu-ray. Studio Ghibli hasn't even announced one for Japan as yet, and a North American release isn't permitted until about six months after the Japanese release occurs (this is to prevent rampant importing, as the Japanese Ghibli Blu-ray releases cost about $90 USD).

I desperately want a Mononoke Blu-ray. It's Ghibli's best-looking film. At least we have Nausicaa...

I just realized that it's now been eight months since Blu-rays of Laputa (Castle in the Sky) and My Neighbors the Yamadas were released in Japan, and over three months since they were released in the UK, and there hasn't been a whisper about the North American releases.
