Razer Onza or Microsoft controller for Windows?

I've been playing games for more than 12 years with KB+Mouse and have never used a controller before. Games are becoming more and more controller optimized and I have an Eyefinity setup that would give a better experience with a gamepad, so I decided to get one

I've narrowed my options to Razer Onza TE BF3 Edition (Wired):

And Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows :

They both seem pretty good, but have heard very mixed views on razer products...

Which one is better ?

I just use my arcade stick controller from my PS3 on my PC when I need it (super meat boy, etc), but if I was looking for a dual-stick style controller, I'd go with the Microsoft one. I've gotten decent mice, joysticks, etc from them in the past, they *should* have decent driver support for Windows, and it's easy to replace one if it does break (at least until they come out with the next xbox).

Wireless X360 Controllers do not work wirelessly with a PC. So you are going to have to stick with a wired controller.

Oh, I thought they worked with the wireless receiver?

The one he linked has a wireless receiver that's designed for use with a PC. It will definitely work.

As to the OP, I'd stick with the tried-and-true official Microsoft one. The only reason I'd use a different one is for a better d-pad, but that Razer one looks worse than the Microsoft one. A shame, as that would have been a nice improvement by Razer.

If you wanted to save a little bit, you could always just buy a wired official xbox controller as well. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wired-Controller-Black/dp/B003ZSN600/

I was really looking forward to the Razer Onza but the disappointing reviews stopped me from getting it.

Obviously then I have no experience with that controller but I can say that regular 360 controllers work great with Windows. I have not had any problems.

I'd go with the official Microsoft controller OR an official PS3 controller with motionjoy drivers (which will work with bluetooth if you have a PC bluetooth adaptor). I use a 360 controller for most games that don't require much accuracy with the d-pad, and my dualshock 3 controller whenever I need to use a d-pad for fighting games, or movement.

Razer has quality control issues, which is why I'd skip them. If I had to choose an alternative to those 2 controllers, I'd go with Logitech.

If you really want to go whole hog you can also buy the MS wireless controller for the PC, then buy the silver 360 controller with enhanced d-pad. The wireless receiver for the PC will work with any official MS wireless device.

It's possible you can buy just the receiver used or on eBay, etc.
