I really like this game, I've played all the REs and i know this one steps away from the horror/survival alot but this one is damn fun.
last night my roommate and i were discussing the combat system, and he said the one thing that really bothered him was the knife and kick.
he said that the knife has so little effect and use that it is a superfluous part of the game. in addition, he felt that the kick was so powerful when executed, and yet was so spotty in terms of when you could execute it that it was also not a very interesting aspect of the game.
reason being that because whenever some "zombies" or whatever were swarming you, or got the jump on you, all you had to do was enter your item screen, equip the shotgun and blast the living hell out of them. the shot gun is the ultimate close quarters weapon.
i argued that 1) the game is a shooter, not a hack and slash 2)the kick and knife have their place, but it was never meant to be a big part of the game, 3) there's more than enough ammo for the shotgun (or even the handgun) to keep you from justifying using Leon's melee attacks.
i do agree with him in saying that the close quarter aspect could have been better, that you could have had more pressure to use skill, (his suggestion would have been that when pulling a weapon from the attache case, that it took a while to equip it, thereby taking away the "instant shotgun to your face" manuever)
i'd love to hear some thoughts.
