Real Electronic Band with Rock Band instruments?

CAGiversary!
I am an inspiring drum player (thanks to Rock Band no doubt) and am currently planning to set up a makeshift electronic drum set with two Rock Band drums using the PC program Drum Machine.

As I was researching this program, I pondered if there was a similar program for the Rock Band or Guitar Hero guitars. If so, it could be theoretically possible to create a full electronic band. Is there such a program that exists? The concept is simple, but did not know if it was possible. If nothing else, I could rig the guitar to JoytoKey then to Drum Machine with guitar or bass chords. Any help is appreciated.

Like you said, you could simply map the inputs to control a select few samples (perhaps assign a button to cycle through different sets for more options). With only 5 frets and basically 1 string, you're going to be really limited in the guitar department.

I've seen this done but don't know the specifics of it. I believe only the guitar player was using a guitar hero controller and he may've been only playing backup. Saw the video somewhere online. Like the above poster said, you're limited in your options with buttons but I believe the rock band controllers have 10 buttons (standard 5 and 5 solo buttons) but I believe they're all mapped the same. I don't know about the new guitar hero controllers. Don't they have a new addition to them?

Actually I was thinking more like GH:WT does with the frets. For example, I could use J2K to make Green "A", Red "S", and strums "D". I could find some kind of program, possibly a soundboard program, that can interpret "ASD" as a command to play one chord. Then all I would have to find a resource that has a wide variety of bass and guitar chords.

can this joy to key program map keys to other keys?

map your buttons out to asdf whatever. Then map you combinations to other single keys

ex. Joy1 = A Joy2 = B Strums = C
Map A+B+C to D

Set your project such as that drum program or cakewalk or flstudio to play that chord on D.

Is this going to be done for the "wow" factor? I think this might be ok with the drum set, but you would essential just have the same drum machine instrument replicated in the guitars. Not sure how much music you can create out of that type of setup. Maybe try modifying the guitars with some type of dj mixer or synthesizer.

I couldn't see the video due to me being on dial-up but I'm guessing thats what i'm looking for. I was actually told by a friend that a real life popular band played one of their songs with a GH guitar so I know its possible I just don't know if they use a special program or had to rig hot keys, etc. This will be for personal use, not "go play in front of people" thing.
