Some of you may be like me and either getting or considering getting an Elite but have a scarcity of HDMI connections available. In my case the PS3 and Satellite used the only two HDMI inputs my TV has. I looked at upgrading to a receiver that has HDMI switching capability but that generally cost a good bit, especially if you wanted to go all out and get a receiver that does HDMI upconversion. Besides, I like my Yamaha RX-V695 and have only had it a few months.

I started looking at HDMI switchers. At first the ones I found were pretty expensive, but our good friends at Monoprice came to the rescue. Their HDX-501 switcher allows 5 HDMI 1080p HDCP compliant inputs and one output and is I/R remote controlled for a reasonable price of $78. The exact same switcher is $100 more at Fry's.

It works great with the Harmony 360 remote, it is in the Harmony database so you simply tell it what input to use for which devise you are setting up and presto you have the ability with one button to turn on all devices and to their correct settings (God I love that remote, it took the place of 7 remotes in my house).

Here is the link to the Monoprice HDMI switcher for those interested:

I LOVE monoprice. Possibly too much. Their products are top of the line, their prices are incredibly low, the shipping is fast, and the service is excellent. I don't currently need a switcher, but I do like to chime in whenever monoprice is mentioned.

I got this one from monoprice (a 3 port) and it works great. I had one from Circuit City that had to be powered off between switching inputs or else it'd be messed up but this one just works dandy. I was able to program my Universal Remote Control (the brand not the generic term) to work with it. Worth the $60 for sure.
