Most of the stuff that Gamestop price drops tends to be in line with universal price drops, but because not all of them are, this thread is warranted. Also, if the price of the new item has dropped in price, expect the used item price to similarly follow suit and be $2-$5 less than its new retail price. Sometimes the used version drops first, but both are often around the same time.

Many of these items are sold out in stores since they're old and won't get restocked (Gamestop, after all, tends to make most of its money from selling used games), so you'll have to do a zip code store search for the appropriate title to hopefully find it in your area if you can't buy the item online.

All of this information is presented on the Gamestop website, but because of their new "Price Drop" algorithm, it doesn't really display when new price drops hit. Since I started keeping a running list for current platforms, I figure its easy enough to do a comparison to my lists every week. I generally run the reports once a week on Wednesday mornings, because I've noticed most price drops occur on Monday or Tuesday mornings so I wanted to catch those on the weekly report. If you find price drops sooner than my weekly Wednesday morning report, feel free to post them in the thread so others can get a "head start". I no longer have time to maintain this thread due to my new job but feel free to continue posting Gamestop price drops in this thread or if anyone wants to take over just let me know. Thanks!

I was at gamestop today. I noticed TNA Impact for the PS3 was used for 17.99. I picked up the new copy and it was marked 19.99.

The 17.99 "used" copy is shown on the website, however the website shows the "new" copy as costing 39.99.

Just letting people know it might be 19.99 NEW at your store.

It's a price drop. The 360 version is at the same price ( $ 20 NEW ). Might pick it up now when the next 360 coupon drops.

Some good price drops here and there this week as it's a lengthy list. Also, it looks like the My Coach series, the Imagine series, and Petz series that all got $10 price drops last week on the DS are now back to regular price so it was just a temporary price drop/sale. Enjoy!
Why the heck does Civ Revo on the DS drop, and the 360/PS3 versions stay at $60? :wall:
Because I already own it for DS :(. On a related note, new Bully SE Wii dropped to $19.99 2 weeks ago (as was posted), but they still haven't dropped the used price (still $26.99). Why? Because I want to buy it.

Of course, after they do drop the used price, I will still have to wait for a coupon and locate a used copy.

Hopefully this is a sign of a universal drop on Ninja Gaiden Sigma and if so Bestbuy better drop the price soon because I want my $10 Price adjustment lol.

So...maybe I'll do some more research on Away before running straight out to get it. Metacritic has it at 65/100 w/ 12 reviews. LINK

Anyone played this game? Worth $10?

EDIT: Looks like Exit DS, a previous drop I bought for $10 and liked quite a bit, got 64/100. Mulling it over...

I've played it a little bit. It's pretty fun and has a very unique premise. It's kind of like a cross between an RPG and puzzle game, with the puzzle aspects reminding me a bit like Adventures of Lolo on the NES. It's also developed by Mistwalker Studios. Easily worth $10, without hesitation.

When are people going to stop debating on buying games because of some statistic on a review board... Go and watch a bunch of gameplay videos and judge from that if you think you might like the game...

I swear with this generation online reviews from GT/GS/IGN/Metacritic/Etc. have hurt software sales more then anything..

Make up your own minds !! There have been a bunch of games that were destroyed by reviews and arent actually bad games but people wont give them a chance because person "A" says they are bad on website "B"

Edit:

Wow im sorry but I just clicked on the link provided by the above poster and give me a break your looking at a review score based on a bunch of captions from magazines and websites.... There are not even any real reviews from people there..... Wow Just Wow
Dude, :ds: Away Shuffle Dungeon dropped to $10?! D'oh!!
I bought Mazes of Fate DS at $20, then noticed they had Away and exchanged it. Mazes is still at $20. D'oh!!!

And watch videos, look at screenshots. Play every demo I can. And ask for recommendations from friends, family, and strangers. And then based on all that...I make my own damn decision.

Sorry if it offends you that I like to make informed purchases.

And I've bought plenty of games that were reviewed poorly and thought they were great. And I've probably shelled out more money than you for poorly-critic-reviewed games. I also buy my kids the games they want, to hell with the reviews or what anyone else says about it.

And I was disappointed by no user reviews on Metacritic. I give those a lot more weight than the critics' reviews. Which is why I brought my question to the CAG community.

So I just use reviews as a go-by. What to expect, taking the reviewer into consideration, of course (tendancies towards genres, fanboyism, etc.). To me, reviews are just another tool.

Besides, someone's always asking for the Metacritic score around here, so I thought it'd be all community-like for me to post the link.

I had decided to buy it, by the way.

And thanks, Josef, for your response.

EDIT: And dammit! I was going to go get it at lunch and found myself writing this response. Now I have to wait until after work. Gee, thanks a lot, Derrick! ;)

Usually Metacritic gives a good idea of how a game will be.

I look at metacritic, then if the game still reads cool to me, regardless of reviews, I "youtube" some gameplay to make sure it's not turn-based or 100% first person shooter, or clearly horrible camera issues.

There are definitely exceptions, and both Gamestop & IGN CLEARLY tilt negative on PS2 games now just because they are PS2 games. I think you review a game based on it's own system, not against other systems, and you certainly don't say "This PS2 game sucks, the PS3/360 version has better graphics." No crap, it's unfair to compare games from different gen systems.

But yeah Spider-man 3 is an awesome game, although you'd think it were horrible to read most "pro" reviews. It's also NOT a movie game. They have Tobey & company from Spidey 3 voicing their correct characters, but the Spider-man 3 storyline is only 15% or so of the game. Scorpion, Rhino, Kingpin, and Lizard were not in Spider-man 3 (well, Dr. Connors, but he wasn't Lizard yet).

I use game reviews like this: If it's score is 50% or higher, I'll at least check out the gameplay videos. If it's under 50%, unless there's something I really like about the game, like the concept read so well, I'll likely not bother.

Of course reviews matter more. It's called trying to make an informed decision. Look at all the shovelware the Wii has put out. It's better to do a little research than impulse buy a game. "Oh, the cover art looks cool, I'll buy."

The last 2 gens, we weren't regularly paying $60+ for brand new games (well, n64 owners...but they weren't regularly buying N64 games now were they, lol). I'm too young to remember for sure about new game prices on gens before that, but it seems like Sega/SNES & NES new titles were $50, at least for the brand new hot titles.

Darn, it looks like Exit and The Legend of Kage 2 on the DS went back up to $20 new from $10. May bite on Shuffle Dungeon then, since that is one game I've been eyeing and I'm trying to conserve GS credit.

Definitely grabbing Shuffle Dungeon now before it possibly goes back up.

I had Legend of Kage in my cart yesterday too, but was going to wait till today since I didn't have my Edge card on hand. I guess I should have seen this coming though. They've had both those games used at $15 for a week or so, when initially they had them for $9 used. Guess I'll either wait for a 20% off DS coupon or scrounge Half and Amazon. Though AWAY will let me get a little bit of a fix on new games.

Edit: Away might also hold for longer, if not permanently. Exit and Kage are both SquareEnix titles, which was why I was so surprised to see them at $10 since they JUST dropped a few DS games to $30.

Just think I may have saved you $10 lol well your response is just as valued as mine and I like the respnse I was taking from your original post and what I saw that you base your game purchases off that site and was pretty blown away.

No harm ;)

Why do people hate Metacritic so much? Do you really think people base their buying decisions solely off of a single number? There were over 1,100 software releases on the NDS and Wii last year. It is completely ridiculous to expect people to be able to parse all of that information without relying on some outside source that consolidates information to direct their purchases.

If people are overlooking games its because there are too many releases. It has nothing to do with scores and it doesn't affect the total amount of software sold.

Had to say something: that is an AWESOME sig! :applause:

Add Space Invaders Extreme (DS and PSP) to the titles that went up in price from $9.99 to $19.99. I'm so glad I bought Space Invaders Extreme last week!

Toy Shop $9.99 (from $19.99)

Great game just to waste time... if the next coupon is 20%off ds games and can find this used ..

around 6 bucks is a great price fo rit.

Grabbed the last new one in fort wayne for 10

I went a head and picked up Away Shuffle Dungeon on the recommendation posted here. Have not played it yet, but I like that it is not a turn based RPG.

Finially bit on a guilty pleasure and grabbed Blitz 2 for PS3. Local Gamestop was out of stock but managed to grab a new copy shipped (w/tax) for $24.99 from their web site. I've been sitting on a $25 gift card from E-rewards for like 2 months now, so worked out perfectly.

Thanks OP!

Dead Space is $45 used at Gamestop now. I might bite when they do the next 20% off + 10% edge card to bring it to about $33 including shipping.

i loved the game.. took little over 22 hours to beat it ......

I know the game isn't supposed to be great, but Amazon has the Xbox 360 game You're in the Movies w/camera for $31.99 which is $8 off the most recent Gamestop price listed.

Definitely gonna snag Away Shuffle Dungeon for $9.99. It seems to be available at quite a few stores, too - but probably somewhat challenging finding a non-gutted copy. I'm not sure it matters too much on that one though.

FYI if you're a multi-DS household...Away Shuffle Dungeon has 2 player multicart. I'm considering it since it's only $10 each.

Have a copy on hold for me which I am going to pick up. Viva la GS clearance thread! ^___^
Quick question:

Does GS still take used strategy guides?

Kay
Nope, I think they stopped that two years ago.

Looks like it might finally be time to pick up Kane & Lynch for a hair over $10 after EDGE and perpetual 10% coupon :) Or maybe I'll just wait for the next 20% coupon...

I'm gonna grab Blitz 2 for PS3. I would have grabbed it as part of the B2G1 or with the 20% off coupon but my local stores never got it in stock used. A used copy just showed up so I can get it for around $15. Not bad.
