Recommend a CAG DVD player.

CAGiversary!
I'm looking to buy a progressive scan DVD player now that I bought a new 51" Sony HDTV. I don't think my Xbox DVD player can take advantage of my HDTV. Can anyone recommend one to me. Remember, it must be CAG approved.

Go to CC and get teh nexxtech one. They have one with a display and one without. they are progressive scan AND will play ANY burned dvd, vcd, and svcd.

Does your TV have DVI and HDMI or any special hookups?

Go with Sony, so everything can match ;)

I have a Panasonic RP82 (but you will not find that anymore)

Not the most feature rich in control (but has component hookups) is the Philips DVP 642. It plays regular DVD's, mp3 cd/DVD, DIVX codecs, mp4, and Xvid and it does progressive scan. Supports DVD +/- R/RW & goes for around 60-80$

The Philips is probably the best in the $50-70 range, but I've found the best overall value is in the Sony 775. It's got the best DAC for the price range by far, and includes good support and features like SACD. The cheapest place is Amazon.com, for $116 right now.

A good 480p player is better than a low-end upscaler (the Philips) for overall picture quality. The only disadvantage is no DVD-A support, but you shouldn't expect that for less than $150-ish. Also, a cheapass DVD player won't give you HDMI/DVI outs.
Anyone here have the Wal-Mart iLo brand DVD recorder?
Dont get the iLO. I work at WalMart and we have more returns on that unit than the others. I got the Sanyo its a much nicer unit and its only $30 more.

Buy the Philips 642! It plays all of what Cappy listed plus it's got a DVD remote hack whereby you can enable it for all regions as well as automatic PAL to NTSC conversion of discs.
ONLY if the Sony 775 includes all that support would I suggest shelling out the extra $ for it since I somehow severely doubt remote hack for it, think chipping it which may not be cheap.
