Recommend Games for new PS2 Owner

I'm finally buying a PS2 tonight, and I need some game recommendations. The cheaper, the better, as I have a limited budget. I can also take advantage of the "2 GH games for $30" deal at, I believe, Circuit City.

Keep in mind these things- Most multiplatform games I want, I already have or will buy on Xbox simply for better graphics and better online play, when applicable.

Also, I have never played much of any installment in the Final Fantasy series. same with Metal Gear. Keep that in mind if recommending a sequel.

With that said, I like all genres, with RPGs, beat-em-ups, shooters, simulations, and anything innovative and quirky being favorites. I don't need many RPGs now though, since I just started KOTOR and have several more unfinished.

So, recommend away!
 
Have you ever owned a PS1? If not, there's a load of great games for you to try there as well, and it could get you started on some of the series that you aren't too sure about sequels of.

Resident Evil 4 (10/25/05) if you don't already own it on the Gamecube.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica (can buy used for $10 just about anywhere)

Also, SF: Anniversary Collection is worth owning as well. You wouldent want to miss Sly Cooper or the GTA games, either.
 
Xenosaga Ep. 1 if you dont mind long cutscenes. The story is really good and I found my copy at a TRU clearance sale for $4.
 
I've owned almost every decent ps2 game possible and the only ones I've bothered keeping were these:

God of War
Sly 2 Band of Thieves
Suikoden 3
Devil May Cry
Ratchet & Clank: UYA
Kingdom Hearts
Metal Gear Solid 3
Katamari Damacy

They all should be $19.99 or less except God of War, but you simply can't miss out on that game.

I've only listed the exclusives as I'm assuming you already have GTA, Burnout 3, Psychonauts, etc. on the Xbox.
 
Second Kingdom Hearts... Star Ocean, Way of The Samurai 1 or 2, Baldur's gate 1 or 2 (very linear, but still fun.), Armored Core 3 & Nexus, Dynasty Warriors 3 or later, Star Wars Battlefront, Any of the Dragonball Z series is fun w/2 people... NBA Ballers... What kind of games do/did you play on other platforms?
 
Well most of the good ones have already been said, but i can definitely recommend the Devil May Cry Series, along with the SOCOM series, the Metal Gear Solid games, God of War, etc. etc. etc. Enjoy the platform. I love my PS2!
